How do you determine the spacing of the studs above the header?
Does the bottom floor channel get cut out in this process too?

1- In regard to the header studs (or cripples as we would say) that spacing is pulled from your layout that you determined when you plumbed your first stud.
2- Yes the channel should be cut for the opening. That was something I omitted from the video as my crew was setting the doors and they had the grinders to cut along the floor. Typically when we lay track we cut to the opening and leave a space. We can update when we have a bigger space to layout and frame 👍

How do you start you layout for studs "16" and "24" inches. From center or edge?

Off of a wall should be center.

Meaning that the wall should be drywalled. If your taking off a stud it would be 48-5/8”. I hope that makes sense.

Ok. I see in some projects that some workers start the layout with the edge. Why they do that??

Most wall construction utilizes Wood Studs, not Steel Studs, so how would you anchor the floor anchor in the throat of the HM Frame to the concrete floor when the Trimmer and King Stud are installed with a Header and Cripples?

You leave your studs loose in the track at the bottom, hammer drill and tapcon the plate at the bottom and slide the studs back in place. Also I would disagree with ‘most wall const are wood studs’ because typical HM doors are commercial application with 3-5/8 studs and 5/8 drywall. Where as residential is 2x4 and 1/2 drywall. The legs of the doors on HM are standard to steel stud sizing.

@@mitchellacoustical3119 You can't leave 2 x 4 Wood Studs loose, how would you nail them to the bottom and top plates. So you know, I have installed probably 20K frames in the span of my 40 year career, and 95% of all the Schools I have worked on over the years are made of Wood Studs. I have worked on probably 500 Schools as a Door and Hardware Union Carpenter at Los Angeles Unified School District. Schools are considered Commercial, and when I install a Fully Welded HM Frame in a Wood Framed Wall, the wall is already constructed. Some are in 6" Curb Walls with the Wood Studs on top of the curb. My question was how would you install a Fully Welded HM Frame if the Inspector wanted you to secure the Floor Anchor to the Ground with two 3/8" Wedge Anchors on each side?
