  • This was a remarkable trip and awesome experience. We hope you enjoy this scenic journey along the Current River that began at Round Spring State Park and concluded at Big Spring. We were very fortunate on this run! The weather was perfect, the water clear and the wildlife abundant. Unlike our previous video, which features what is considered to be the upper portion of the Current, we have included a narrative that provides some highlights about the river. We encourage you to watch this piece in its entirety, you won't be disappointed! As always, please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE! More projects will follow.

      Thank you! We rarely stay in lodges and/or hotels. Usually, we camp along our routes. Be it a hammock, or tent, it's the best way to experience the river or trail. With that being said, there are some great locations that provide lodging. Cabin rentals are one avenue. A web search will reveal some options. The Landing in Van Buren is a great formal lodge, although a bit expensive depending on the season. Montauk State Park has some overnight options as well. The two aforementioned are located along the Current. Hope this helps! Our advice? Give an overnight along the river or trail a try. There are several gravel bars and the experience is certainly unique! Recommended outfitters for canoe or kayak rentals, in our opinion, are Two Rivers Canoe Rental and Jadwin Canoe rental.

    🥃🚣🏻‍♂️

    • @AVAJourneys
      @AVAJourneys  3 года назад +1

      Generally, the lower section is floatable year around. For winter floats I'd highly recommend a dry suit. We generally follow the rule of 100. If the air temperature and water temperature do not add up to 100 degrees, dry wear of some type may be required. The river is spring fed, so the approximate water temp probably falls in the mid 50s plus. Thanks for watching!!

    • @AVAJourneys

      The depth and clarity vary, depending upon precipitation volume. We love the fall! The clarity is usually at its peak then. The shallow water levels are no issue. You might drag once or twice, but it's generally very navigable. I would recommend using Two Rivers Canoe Rental. Ask for Anita. Thanks for subscribing!!

    • @AVAJourneys
      @AVAJourneys  2 года назад

      Definitely plan to take your time and enjoy it! The entire river is beautiful, but the most isolated section is from Baptist camp to Roundsprimg. With 5 days, you could easily go to Two Rivers. It depends on how many miles you're comfortable with in a day. At our normal pace of 20 to 25 miles a day, or more sometimes, we can run from Baptist all the way to Van Buren within that time. Also remember, the more people in your group, the more time you'll need to allow. Lastly, another thing to consider, is you'll start to see jet boat traffic past Roundspring. We prefer running the Current in the fall, before time change. Less crowded, and you still have ample daylight.

      On the lower section, which this particular video features, we put in at Roundsprimg State Park and ended at Big Sprimgs State Park, in the town of Van Buren. Some agree that the most scenic float is from Cedar Grove to Roundsprimg. Below round spring, you may encounter the occasional jet boat. However, most boaters are courteous and respect kayakers. June, July and August are the busiest times of year for all visitors.

    • @AVAJourneys
      @AVAJourneys  2 года назад +1

      Oh, incidentally, the trip is approximately 60 plus miles. It took us two and a half days if I remember correctly. Although, if you'd like to really take your time, I would plan for a bit longer. You can find a mile by mile marker on the web. It provides a good approximation of distance and the location of landmarks. We have paddled this river from source to near the end of the protected section, located at Goose Creek. Additionally, I would also consider the Eleven Point and Jack's Fork. Both are incredible rivers.
