Be cool if they kept one of the old lorries and attempted an in-house hydrogen engine conversion - would've tied in nicely with the sustainability bits Daniel's been speaking about recently!
Mr Pomfret.. You took the words right out of my mouth... Pointless but brilliant, like everything Asheville do on here its done with attention to detail and .professionalism....
Archimedes principle - the buoyancy force is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. Unless you are changing the physical shape of the boat in a way that makes it displace more water, it won't change the buoyancy. Expanding foam inside the fins doesn't help! Expanding foam outside - which you might have seen - helps because it displaces loads of water while adding almost no weight. Looks absolutely wicked though 👌
You are completely right. They use foam to fill spaces and give them more structural integrity without adding much weight. But they use it in combination with fiberglass hulls. Filling a metal container that does not need the extra strength is just adding weight and not changing buoyancy at all.
It’s amazing how much happiness Asheville brings into peoples life. It must be so much hard work plus running your company but u genuinely give people over half an hour where we don’t think and worry about things in life keep up the good work 👍🏆🥇🏅
Is there a better feeling then opening RUclips midweek and seeing another Ashville video top of the feed😁 breaks up having to wait until Sunday! Much appreciated keep it up!! 👌🏾🙏🏾
Congratulations. This would have been more fun with your RUclips sidekick, Michael O Donovan in the boat 🤣.. Imagine a boat race, between Ashville and O Donovan skips.. it would be better than Oxford vs Cambridge🤣🤣🤣. This is what makes your content so powerful, it's natural and not overly complicated, unlike your mates which has become boring and repetitive.. Well done, Danny boy
Haha seriously that would be a brilliant thing to do for charity! Loser has to have one of their trucks carry the winners logo for a month and has a freedom pass for all the manors!
Love it looks really good, easy getting into the water with the lorry :) Put some balast in the middle fin to lower your centre of mass, then two empty watertight boxes or cyliners running down either side (or outriggers) with them half in / half out the waterline. when you tip one way you'll become more bouyant on that side and the weight will pull you upright, 1m3 of displaced water is a tonne. Maybe a bilge pump for a longer journey :) Boats are shaped so as they get deeper they displace exponentially more water. All the weight is at the bottom in lead weights.
Definitely agree on the ballast and a bilge pump. Top build all together! Edit: All electrics and pumps etc can easy go under the benches, will still look like a skip @39:46 yesss
While working in Cairo on an Aid Project the rugby held an oil drum raft race on the River Nile, the construction company Lilly made a raft that rode deep in the water, many laughed at it thinking it would be hard to paddle, but a civil engineer with marine knowledge had designed the drums with open tops. The crew sat inside making the raft settle low in the water, they were also told the stay close inshore this caught the best of the strong Nile current and the craft wizzed along with the crew doing more steering than actual paddling. So what the skip needs is higher sides and more crew.
Brilliant video Ashville. To think watching a skip be turned into a boat would make you smile throughout mid week. Need to get out fishing with terry for sure 🎣
He’s back with his craziness I missed this from the early Ashville weekly When he had a taxi Cars And wanted a 747 Is he still trying to red phone box or a bus stop sign ?
Haha great work! Thats awesome. If you ever don't need want that motor, I know my water rescue team is in need of one, as probably are a few more locally to you!
Absolutely BRILLIANT! I loved this, so much fun. I’ve no idea how to stabilise it except for outriggers that you can drop down and lock into place. Keep it up Daniel and I’m already looking forward to seeing more! 😃😍
OMG this is TOTALLY pure gold 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 My sides are killing me from all the laughs I TOTALLY hope part 2 comes around in the near future Can't wait for it. ABSOLUTELY amazing build
Brilliant!!!!.... the idea.. The execution... The footage.... The cut aways.... The editing..... Oh yeah,..... And the hoodie...... It's all on point!!
Looks great, similar to how you cut out for the engine, you do a hole similar with high sides(It can double as a picnic table ) in the middle of the skip then you can lower a hinged Keel down for stability.
Nothing short of inspiring. It's super-inspiring Daniel. Well done! Indeed all things are possible when we unleash our imagination into reality. This could be the beginning of something you never saw coming. Took the words out of my mouth Robert - Skip on rail track. That should be fun to watch. I second that!
Top gear Ashville - You could add some old tyres around to prevent hitting other boats and docking issues …..also do add a fishing rod holder for Terry 🫡
The bottom of the boat needs stabilizer, the triangle shape column part you put underneath the flat bottom is downwards, it should actually be upwards which make the ship stable, think about the shape of a torpedo. Also you need to find the weight center of the boat, when it is lifted, it will help you determine how much weight you need in the front side to balance off the weight of your body.
Scrapheap challenege but with more time and a budget. The Sh/Skip. Brilliant. Would love to have heard O'Donovan's reaction.. you definitely went onto someone else's manor with the skip truck! Also, so pleased to hear a little of your fitter's Irish accent. I know he was camera shy but when he became nameless I feared the worst...
Add buoyancy aft, by increasing your “wetted area” behind the motor. Think of it as any part of the skip that’s vertical when it touches the water adds no buoyancy, and any horizontal adds maximum buoyancy.
Daniel, in the 1980s and early 90s we had powerboat Grnd Prix and I remember a motorised skip being driven around the docks, it was a riot and quite unstable. We could actually have fun BACK then and we did, usually the people who rode in the skip were a bit merry on the "tot" of rum they were given for courage on boarding the craft.
Amazing Daniel! really enjoyed that hope there is a part 2 with you and Penfold taking her fishing. Also they have similar looking boats in Australia called 'Tinnie' might be able to get some inspiration from their design for your alterations.
Shoutout to all the ASHVILLE Staff, I mean you guys are just amazing and hats off to you Daniel ,you're ideas seem crazy at the start but they always work!!!!
Looks pretty cool. Think you need to raise the front as waves will crash over it in the channel. For stability maybe get some oil drums filled with foam and fix them to each side which will help buoyancy too. A little tarp roof would be cool too.
One of the best vids EVER lol! I LOVED IT and you HAVE to finish it and make that cruise with Tezza! Great Stuff Daniel - I was smiling all the way through!
We used something like this in WW2 D day . But the whole front opened up so the Soldiers could run straight out and take cover when landing on the beach . So this idea could work
This looked so fun, I hope you and the team enjoy it and build more things from stuff in the yard. As kid growing up in the 80s reminded me of when the A.Team had the building montages. Thank you so much for bringing that good memory out for me. Hope you and the team continue to grow and get yourself and your company where you want to be.
You need a "ballast keel" for stability. Hack the foam out of your middle rib on the underside and fill it with the heaviest material you can find. Real boats use lead.
Ahhhh this has honestly made my day am off to Ibiza on Saturday am looking forward to watching Ashville sat in the morning sun on the beach 🏖 17/25degrees some of that tropical heat that Dan loves so much
Ashville channel has been and always will be a true inspiration to me. Thanks for the content, Daniel and the team. I aspire to be like this one day. Much appreciated all the way from Zambia!
Bro this has to be my new favourite Asheville episode, this idea was dope and the fact it actually worked was insane. I’d genuinely be sad if there aren’t more of these to come!
This is dope, brought back memories of building banana trunk rafts as a kid. Totally inspirational, great work Mr. Louisy...Ashville Shipping starts here.
It's about time we had a UK channel building great projects like this, it would certainly help the subscriber levels. Dan, if I might make one or two suggestions being a 'Scrap Designer' myself. 1. It might be an idea to paint both the insides and outsides in bitumen or something similar to assure total waterproofing. 2. Weld on some side rails at around water level and bolt on some pontoons. This should give level buoyancy for the 'Skoat'. 3. As well as the side pontoons, you could build a lowering keel in the middle of the 'Skoat', this would stop it from rocking side to side. You would of course need to raise the housing for it above water level, to stop it sinking, lol!! Just a couple of ideas, hope it helps......
Love it, it's like a ashville scrapheap challenge. Idea for flotation, if you remember when topgear made car boats, Clarkson had a similar problem with tipping, You wanna use a simular design, If you were to have two drums or something at the back, it would keep you stable and keep the nose down, Fun video to watch, happy sailing
Daniel is like a big kid. I absolutely love it I really do. Not laughed so much in ages it’s good to see you with a smile on your face and so passionate about skip boat. Your going to make a cool daddy one day 👍🏻. What’s next a roll on roll off train 😂
Wowzers......THAT WAS AWESOME brilliant video....can't wait to see how the final version of the Ashville speedboat works out..... 3 cheers to you n your team for making/editing it.... Goodluck with the final build...⚓⚓
Build 3 more, and attach them with scaffolding bars (two skips on each side) to make a catamaran style boat, big nett over the middle for people to chill on. Yes you will have to launch each skip seperately and then attach them together on the water, but you wanted a challenge lol
Argh shiver me timbers Cap’n Dan after a tough week on site in London this was class to watch. Cracking job love it. Ashville barges on the tideway project 🤔

I wondering if the foam had to be in physical contact with the water to work as buoyancy.
that hull will displace a fair bit I reckon

Upgrades. 1. V hull for stability or 2. Skip o ran, yes two skip hulls. 3. Power , 2 jet ski motors, one in each skip. Love the ideal

Great work this video was crying out for a colab with Colin Furze or Edd China though 😄😄
I absolutely love the boat, you could improve it by removing the middle fin since it creates drag and only makes the motor run less efficient
