    Excellent says the Lutheran sitting here listening. Dr. Hahn always makes things sound so logical, which I'm not necessarily. Yet I quite often find myself saying, "yes...that makes sense ". I do pray many Catholic prayers, especially the DMC. Thanks, Matt. I learn a lot when I check in from time to time. 🙏🏻 Blessings.

      Follow the voice that leads you there...Let your heart rejoice with the truth and voice of Our Lord. The Catholic church isn't perfect people-wise as we're all human and all sinners but there is truth.. May Our Father, Lord Jesus & the Holy Spirit continue to nourish us...

    It's really odd to hear him talk so criticallt about Calvin's and Luther's view of "total depravity" and then speaking positively of Augustine... does he not realize that they got their doctrine from Augustine??

    • @briand4622
      @briand4622 2 года назад +2

      Not only that but Luther and Calvin at length both talk about the efficacious work of the Spirit in the Christian and living regenerate lives. He always throws out the Luther’s dung covered with snow comment that can’t even be attributed to him and is a straw man of Luther’s theology

    • @asgrey22
      @asgrey22 2 года назад +1

      Augustine believed man had free will. In Confessions, ch12 he talks about how no being could be deprived entirely of goodness. This is not what Calvin and Luther taught. I do know that the dung heap quote can’t be attributed to Luther, but the image is not exactly a straw man of his theology either. Dave Armstrong has a good article with quotes from Luther while (I think) staying fair to him, particularly with his comments on sanctification near the end.

      @@asgrey22 You're correct and you're incorrect... Augustine's views changed over the course of his life. He believed in gnostic predestination before he was a Christian, then spent decades arguing against those same gnostics as a proponent of free will, before finally teaching a form of predestination again in response to Pelagius (or rather, a caricature of Pelagius that didn'treally represent his own writings)
      Dr. Ken Wilson has a good book om the subject.

    • @asgrey22
      @asgrey22 2 года назад

      Catholics believe in a form of predestination too, of the elect but not the reprobate. Is that what you are referring to? In Retractions Ch64 (which I believe is near the end of his many writings) he refutes the dissociation of faith and works and he references his other book “On Faith and Good Works”.

    • @josephbrandenburg4373
      @josephbrandenburg4373 2 года назад +1

      @@asgrey22 I'm not trying to say that Augustine's doctrine is identical, only that it was the precedent for some later Protestant/Reformed doctrines. Calvin in particular saw Augustine as the source of his theology.

    The second commandment is, "You shall not make unto yourself any graven image..." The Catholics took that out and inserted, "don't take His name in vein.... Which is #3.and took the 10th commandment and split it into two ( 9 and 10). That way they justify themselves for all the graven images they worship!

      I will try and sum it up in my own words. If someone see’s an error or something to add, please do.
      We are called to follow the footsteps of Christ. His main mission was to SUFFER and die for our sins. As we walk through life, we must embrace suffering with love and understand this is a part of life that ultimately makes you stronger.
      I can offer you a good example of a real situation I encountered if you would like to hear it.
      God love you.

      Just to put it simple words. Suffering in our lives, is God's way to defeat Evil completely,and make us great Saints and join his army into battle, and bear good fruits, it's for our good and God's Glory. Even Jesus Christ suffered on the Cross.
      I would suggest you to watch a lot of testimonials, this will help you a lot. Also, watch the movie Fr. Stu.

      Read "Salvifici doloris" which is an apostolic letter written by St. Pope John Paul II. It explains the meaning of Christian suffering. It's free online but I think it's better to buy a paper copy to markup and highlight. It is a great read.
