    Perhaps the most beautiful VGA adventure game ever made. The art is just stunning (and very Tolkien-ish IMO).

      I couldn't agree more. Simon the Sorcerer's artwork is massively under-appreciated in the adventure game community and retro gaming in general.

      if one only could translate it to some sort of open world engine ,with 'mechanics/systems' for all things to do or happen rather then the singular hard coded effects most games have ,and that all the point and click where forced to considering the hardware limitations of the time

      I only just found out recently that the voice over was done by Chris Barrie, which makes me like it more. But I didn't like it as it came out after the Discworld game(s) and it felt like they were copying that type of voice for this one..... even though Simon is supposed to be a 12 year old boy.

    There's a new Simon the Sorcerer game coming and it's a prequel to this game. It's called Simon the Sorcerer Origins.

    • @THESCUMMBAR
      @THESCUMMBAR  2 года назад +2

      I saw! Bit of a stretch to squeeze in a prequel to the story, but I'm game to give it a try.

    • @jameslevy8347
      @jameslevy8347 2 года назад +4

      @@THESCUMMBAR I agree. But some of the fans don't understand why it's a prequel because the original game shows Simon's origin story. But my theory is that in this prequel it's a dream or someone will make Simon foget about it and how the Spell Book was put in the chest in the loft and then the dog Chippy had to wait for the right time to get Simon to the loft to give him the spell book leading to the events of the Original game.

      Actually this might fix a big plot hole in the first game. After he escapes the goblins in the start sequence, how does Simon know to go to Calypso's house? And why would Calypso write a note to a kid he hadn't met and leave it at home? All signs point to Simon and Calypso meeting before the first game.

    they really dropped the ball with this "updated" version, especially considering how good the monkey island remakes were. adding an already available filter from scummvm does not an update make. Really surprised how quick they jumped in for the money grab.

    I am not so fond of the new music which was put together by James Woodcock. My favourite (probably because of how I first played it) was using a Creative Labs AWE64 sound card, playing on Windows 98. Close second is the MT32 emulator included with later versions of ScummVM. Worst of all is the Adlib sound track but for those who first played it that way it might well have nostalgic value.

    I have the original 'subtitles but no voice' version, and the second 'voice but no subtitles' version. I'd like to get this 'subtitles and voice' version as I prefered the subtitles but the original is also known as 'has at least 6 floppy disks which you have to switch out everytime you go into each area' version.
