Yeah, I just picked one up, too. I use a 35-150 for paid event work, but my 17-28 complements that just fine. The reason I’m replacing the 17-28 with the 20-40 is that the latter is a much better range for dance floors, and I rarely need anything wider than 20mm anyway.
Tough choice! Depends on what you are shooting I guess, but we always like the option for a low aperture. Yet that extra throw on the 70mm end is very nice to have for events and portraits.
Hi! I have this lens, and I have heard that there is vignetting at 20mm with a 67mm nd filter. I'm also worried about there being vignetting if I use a step up ring. What nd filter and/or step up ring do you use with this lens? I was looking at getting the Polar Pro Peter McKinnon filter with mist. Should I get that (if so what size), or should I get a different filter? Thanks!
Was looking at this. But a lens I didn't know existed popped up. Sigma 20-40 2.8... made in early 2000s. 200 dollars on buy n sell. The reviews I found suggest it might be a heck of a bargin
I just picked the 20-40 up a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it so far! Pairs really well with my 35-150

This lens quickly became one of my all time favorites! It rarely leaves my a7IV.

@@GearFocus you’re way too kind! Seriously, stop being so kind.
I have always said the best travel, vacation lens would be a 20-50 mm and now Tamron has made the closest thing to it.
0:26 Gear Focus has the SHOTS! 👏
Nice review, does the new update on fx3 for focus breathing fix this or is tamron not in on this yet?
Only Sony lenses work with the Focus Breathing, that's how they get ya to buy Sony glass lol
This or the Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G? Which one would you choose?

For A7iv, Tamron 20-40; for A7S3/FX3, Sony 20-70.
For event work, f2.8 is pretty much mandatory, so it’s the 20-40/2.8 for me. The price is a lot lower, too.
Can you do a video comparing this to the 17-50mm
Love the content. You really helped me decide to purchase one. 1 sub here
Thanks! We appreciate the support greatly!
Great video, I will buy this
Thanks. It's a great lens and you will love it.
How do you think this compares to the relatively new 16 -35 Sony with power zoom?
I think it compares pretty well. Comes down to if you want that power zoom feature, and wider field of view at f4

Hey there, I actually use the PMVND as well and I haven't had any issues with vignetting that I'm seeing. I bought the 67mm.
Amazing review ! I think this would paired well with a 70-200 F4 and a 50mm 1.4 😃
This is exactly my line up. 70-200 a 50mm and looking to buy this 20-40 as my 3rd lens 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM still very cheap second hand and very rugged at around $350

That's definitely something to look at!
@@GearFocus well I'm going to pick it up tomorrow after work. Comes with a nice sigma zippered case and a lens hood.
@@patrickdolan. How do you like the Sigma 20-40??
@@franklinpark4475 It's been great. It's a nice walk around lens. Takes nice sharp photos
