Turns out the .FBX export way probably doesn't work the way I thought it would with SFM. Instead, just reposition the model in SFM, then export it as a .DMX. I would reposition the .dmx model in the same default 1st frame of the motion capture file, and export it into blender so that way you don't even need to move any bones and just hit "Apply" for redefine source rest pose! 21:42 for help Watch PART 2 for additional help. Also Xsens just gave me an exclusive offer for my viewers! Use the code HALO5 at checkout for 5% off!!
I can't thank you enough for this video, just got everything to work with an xsens suit and SFM. Here were my steps that worked: 1) Import T-Posed SFM model 2) Rotate model upright ONLY using x axis (don't shift it left or right on z axis) 3) Import BVH motion capture file (don't forget to scale FPS to match your file) 4) Auto-scale/adjust mocap scale to model's size 5) Build bones list and match them up 6) Redefine rest pose 7) Rotate SFM model upright on x axis ***DO NOT ROTATE IT ON Z AXIS*** 8) Rotate MOCAP model on Z axis so that they are facing the same way 9) Hit apply (DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING AFTER THIS) 10) Retarget Then you should be all good. For some reason I had a ton of issues with the arms after rotating the SFM model on anything BUT the x axis, hopefully this helps.
Glad it helped! You should see my part 2 as it goes into depth about solving hard rigs. Also id look up more official documentation on Auto rig pro as I don't explain everything including some basics but aren't nessessary persay
Actually inspired by what you are doing on your channel, to make a webseries LOL I’m going to do the same thing you’re doing, except export the animations to the model (or something along those lines, I’m still learning) and then to Garry’s mod. Then I line them up, key in the animated rag dolls at the right time with face posing and finger posing, then that’s that
aint no way. I made a joke that this was the video he probably used to learn how to do this stuff, cus i was really inspired by his channel. That's crazyt ok so this is how he does it
I know this vid is really old but im having a really weird problem Whenever I try to redefine rest pose it works kinda normally but when I hit cancel or apply it sends my character model (not the animation) to the left rotated at 90 degrees. When I got the characters in pose so they were both facing the same way (Without redefining the rest pose the first time) it does the exact same thing Can anyone please help??
Hey! You helped me with this almost 2 years ago but all of a sudden everything broke. I can't import the animations into sfm since the animation destinations are all red and yellow, despite blender showing that I did connect all the bones and everything should work. What do I do?
I do not know why, but after following the whole tutorial I end up with a infromation in SFM that none of the bones are assigned. First in source part it says "No source chanell" and its all red and when I scroll down its all yellow and in source I have the names of bones but on the right it says "No destination control" Idk what I am doing wrong on this one
I'm lost, I spent $50 for this remapping and it seems like no matter what I do something goes wrong. So far, I've used a call of duty model (the animation was completely unusable afterwards) and then tried something more simple, like Spy from TF2 (looked like a warped black hole). I've followed along multiple times, I've tried both FBX and BVH, I'm unsure as to what I'm doing wrong and this is the only thing I can find online. Is there any way I could somehow get direct help from you? Whether that be paid time or not; SFM seems like a fun place to mess around with motion capture yet it seems impossible for me to get this working
Hi. I could really use some help. I am able to do everything up to adding the animation back into Source Filmmaker. Not sure what I can do to get it back in because as soon as I hit import animation it crashes within 15 seconds. Any advice would be wonderful. Thank you.
Not sure why it'd be doing that, but I'd reinstall SFM and make sure the proccess is being correctly as show. You may want to watch Part 2 for further context of this video
This is awesome man, thank you! Just a side note, the Auto-Rig Pro Lite edition (the $20 one) doesn't include the remap tool so the $40 version is required. Additionally, this same process works in Blender 2.9
Hi! I'm having problems with your tutorial. Whenever I try to install auto rig pro onto my blender addons it gives me an error. I installed the blender version you linked in the description and I am using auto rig pro from the link you provided as well. What am I doing wrong?
I'd just download the latest version of blender 3.1 and the latest of auto rig pro tool. It is far better and infinitely faster retargettihg. Lmk if that works.

The autorig pro in the description does not have a 2.79 version that I can find. Where is it?
You can just update to the latest. It's way better. Update blender too. Read manual
@@RonDucats3 Got it. Literally have never touched Blender before, so virtually everything here is new to me.

Use CATS plugin,it automatically fixes the bones if they are all messy etc

Trying to figure out how to do this with kinect data. Is IPPI the only option for recording the data?
hi, for some reason I can't find where to scale fps when importing my .fbx file from my mocap. im on blender 3.2.2, so it's pretty new
Would something like this work if I got a mocap suit?
yes

Does anyone know where you can download stock DMX animations that you can use instead of hand animating.
Mixamo but you will have to do same process here

I thought I was high and was hearing Ron from HaloFollower. Turns out I was right.
Can I pay you like 5 dollars to do one for me? I seriously cant do it myself.
I've been trying for the past 3 days to do 1.
