The X-E1 was great in it's time (ESPECIALLY with an XF35/1.4 mounted), but the slower 'contrast only' AF and the noise at higher ISOs made it frustrating to use in low light. The X-E2 was better than the X-E1 in almost every respect. IF Fuji had just given us an X-E2 with a flip LCD, it would have been the best selling camera of all time and deservedly so. I DO like the 26mp sensor of my X-E4 cameras and LOVE the flip LCD (though NOT the selfie mode that flips the image upside down...Fuji should really di a firmware Kaizen update to fix that!) but the three X-E2 bodies that I had will always remain dear memories to my heart. I look forward to your impressions.

      Thanks for your comment!
The X-E1 is still as great as it was when it first came out. ;)
As you probably understood from the video, I really like this camera and its sensor.
Yes, almost every other Fuji camera is better in terms of performance, but those colors-that's what adds value to this camera.
The only X-E camera I have left to review is the X-E2-which should be quite simple, as I’ve had two before and have made tons of images with it.
That will mean I’ve reviewed all of the X-E cameras.
My favorite is the X-E3, and my least favorite is the X-E4.
I really miss the SCM switch on the front and pushing the joystick to re-center the AF.
The tilt screen is, as you say, nice!
Personally, I would prefer an X-E5 that’s like an X-E3 with a tilt screen, weather sealing, and 10-bit color recording in video, but without IBIS!
Regarding the image flipping upside down, you can add magnets to the camera. There are 1mm thin neodymium magnets that will solve that issue.
I know a friend who did that; unfortunately, I don't have much more information, but I think you can Google it.

@@Kim_Alexander You got me looking for magnetic solutions to the screen flip issue and digging more deeply, I found one. If you place a magnet on the BOTTOM of the camera on the left (non battery) side of the camera (right next to the speaker opening), it prevents the screen from flipping into ‘selfie’ mode. If you have the eye sensor on it will still flip to eye level finder if you get too close, but it needs to be much closer than the selfie flip needed. I’ve got some small neodymium button magnets with an adhesive side and they work on the camera directly and even through a bolt on grip.
The X-E4 is now nearly the perfect camera, IMO! (I very rarely use the M, S, C switch unless I’m changing lenses and I’ve programed the function button on the top near the shutter button to bring that menu up…I don’t need a switch that constantly gets bumped to “C” like it does with all of my other Fuji bodies.)
IBIS would be great, but I’m happy with these ‘fixed’ bodies until that (may) happen with an X-E5.

Min första Fujifilm var XE2s och därefter x100s. Jag tycker de producerar riktigt bra färger och hudtoner. Det gör det enkelt att redigera i post.

I just picked up an xe1 from Japan. It appears to be NOS. Not sure single scratch. Even the original screen cover is still on the rear lcd. Box has matching serial number. I bought it as a travel camera but due to low light performance, I am wondering if it is the right camera. Otherwise, I love it.

X-E1 and X-Pro1 both have the first generation X-Trans sensor . I found the noise reduction on these are more natural than the newer sensors.

i think all that you mention about the special images xe1 produce is only for jpeg users . Did you find any differences between xe1 and xe2 in RAW format?

    • @Kim_Alexander
      @Kim_Alexander  Месяц назад +1

@@jimkiousis the difference goes for raw as well, color trending and tonality is different between different cameras in raw as well.
Regarding fuji it's the same. I made a video where I compared all 5 x-trans sensors against each other
      check it out here.

I was lucky enough to locate and buy an X-E2s (same as X-E2, but with all firmware updates and a few minor button tweaks) new-in-the-box after the X-E3 was released and to this day I am happy that I bought it. I have many Fujifilm cameras with more modern sensors, but that 16mp X-Trans 2 sensor gives me my most film-like rendering and allows me to relive my film shooting days in a digital format.
FWIW... the 16mp sensors in those early cameras really show how Fujifilm did a great job on their first three XF lenses, the 18mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4 and 60mm f/2.4. They are perfectly matched to that output and make a great bundle.

@@albertsmith9315 cool, this old fuji cameras have aged very well. I had two x-e2 before so that review should be quite straight forward and also makes a mile stone since I then have reviewed all the x-e cameras.
Regarding the colors I heard a lot of opinions regarding what sensor is the best and most film like.
so I made this video where I compared them all in the same conditions side by side with the same lens

These were great cameras in that day, I get why ppl are nostalgic about the rendering. I had the XT1, which should have had the same image rendering of the XE2. Not many complaints, but at the same time, I'm not convinced that the 24 & 26 mpx versions were worse. I haven't tried their new 40mpx ones, but don't particularly feel any need for this upgrade either.
