I know the Surfliner equipment is owned by the state. hence the reporting mark CDTX. They are leased by the state of California to Amtrak. that is why the f59phi's were retired. The lease ended with amtrak, and so the state sold them off to metra. the superliners in normal paint are amtrak owned, but the ones in Surfliner paint and san Joaquin paint are California owned
@@SouthernCaliforniaRailfan Correct, because they were purchased by Caltrans and follow the same number pattern as I mentioned. For example, CDTX 34951 started out at AMTK 34051 and when it was purchased by Caltrans it was rebuilt, repainted, given a name, and renumbered to 34951 in order to further distinguish that this railcar is owned by the State of California and not Amtrak.
6902 is in the Amtrak Beech Grove shops in Indiana. It's been there since 2001 or 2002 after hitting a tractor. The whole front of the cab car was burnt from a fire from the tractor.

Correct. The 6350, 6450, 6850, 6950, 6460, and 6960 series denotes Surfliner rail cars owned by Caltrans. Everything else is owned by Amtrak
@@average_joe8905 the superliners in surfliner paint have the cdtx reporting marks.
