  • How to convert volume, gallons to liters and liters to gallons.
    Transcript
    Hello welcome to MooMooMath
Today I work on converting volume and I will start with the conversion probably most popular and that is converting liters to gallons. I will also complete additional videos and include a link for all of them. Before we begin let me start by saying 1 gallon (not imperial gallon) = 3.78541 liters and 1 liter = . 264172 gallons. A gallon is larger than a liter. 5 liter beverage equals how many gallons, because you think in terms of gallons. Step 1 is to place liters on top and create a fraction and write a multiplication sign and place the unit I'm converting to on top and that is gallons. Place liters on the bottom . I next ask "which is larger, gallons or liters?" Gallons is larger so I place a 1 by the gallons. I write my conversion 3.78541 liters. The liters cancel and then multiply straight across. I get 5 divided by 3.78541 and when you do the Math that equals 1.32086 gallons.
I created a fraction by placing liters on the top, completed multiplication, placed a 1 by the larger unit, and multiplied.
Lets look at another example. This time I will convert 15 liters = gallons.
Place gallons on top, place the liters over 1,and place liters on the bottom. Ask,"which is larger, gallons or liters?" Gallons are larger, and 1 gallons = 3.78541 liters. The liters cancel multiply straight across, which equals 15 divided by 3.78541. Now simplify the fraction, it will equal 3.96258 gallons.
Now lets convert gallons to liters.
    7 gallons = _____ liters.
I now place liters on top because I want to convert to liters, and place gallons on the bottom.
Next ask, "which is larger, gallons or liters?" Gallons are larger and 1 gallon is equal to 3.78541 liters. Place gallons over 1 and gallons cancel and it will equal 26.4979. Gllons cancel and I'm left with liters.
Lets complete one more liter to gallons problem.
12 gallons equals how many liters?
Again, I will place 12 gallons over 1
Multiply and place the unit I want on top of the fraction, which is liters.
Place the gallons on the bottom.
Ask "which is larger? Gallons or liters?" One gallon equals 3.78541 liters. Gallons cancel, multiply, and you are left with 45.4249 gallons.
That is how you convert gallons to liters and liters to gallons.
Hope this was helpful, and look for additional videos on converting volume.

Thanks for the feedback. 12 x 3.78541 = 45.42492 and I double checked the math using an online converter and get 12 gallons = 45.42492 liters

The last question if gallons cancelled each other then the answer is in liters. I think its a mistake., where you have 45.4299 gallons instead of 45.4299 liters
