Absolutely! Typing class was a thing! My days it was a computer, but very old computers. My teacher would just tell us to close our eyes to type the tests! LOL🤣
I just love how Sophie took pity on those of us over 50, who had to type on typewriters in typing class. She went "Awww" like we're to be pitied or something. 😂 Where I went to school, half of the class used electric typewriters and the other half of the class had to use the manual ones. We'd switch out every quarter. I dreaded my time on the manual ones. I could type 120+ wpm on an electric, with only a couple errors, if that. The manual? 50 wpm, with multiple errors, if I was lucky.
I was born in ‘90 and we still kind of had a typing class when I was in 6th grade, about 11-12 years old. Technically I think it was a computer literacy course because it was around that time, late 90’s to early 00’s, that more and more people were beginning to have their own PC’s in the home. The class taught the basics for how to operate a computer and its different programs, and taught proper and efficient typing. My family had owned and had a PC in our house since about ‘94 so I grew up using one, but that class still took me from typing around 60wpm up to around 120wpm. At that point people understood that basically no matter what job you had in the future computers were probably going to play a role in some form or another, so that class was teaching stuff that would be useful for all of us students going forward. Once I was in high school I began taking courses on coding and website building, but unfortunately those classes were much less useful because the internet and coding was evolving so quick that by the time I finished both years of that course the information that was taught to us was already outdated and websites were being coded in a totally different language.
Watching you 3 fumble thru spelling got me doing what mom told you. Caps means yelling. SPELL THE DAM WORD RIGHT! Then I calmed down once I realized I couldn't spell them either 😂😂

Of course, it didn't make me any faster or better that much. My typing speed REALLY went up when internet chatting became a thing and I was chatting with 5 different girls. LMAO!! Black Americans have a lot of health problems and little access to proper care. And with wealth inequality, we can only afford bad food. It’s cheaper to get a burger than fruit and a steak. Or cheaper to get frozen, processed meals vs fresh veggies and meat. It’s hard.

Fast food and 99 cent stores where it’s mostly processed foods are plentiful. The limited fruit & veggies are subpar. Some folks don’t have or cannot afford transportation. There are studies about city layouts and socioeconomics. Of course it’s available just not equally. $1 has a different weight from pocket to pocket. It’s nothing for a middle or wealthy class but it’s a lot for someone making less and lack transportation.

We had typing class. It was an elective. We didn't close our eyes though, they put a rubber cover over the keyboard so we couldn't see the letters
