Excel function VLOOKUP returns

@@FredericLEGUEN-Excel question: if I had car manufacturers instead of VIN Numbers, and 7 BMWs and 10 Toyotas and 5 Hondas for example, why do I get only 1 output if i have 7 BMWs using the same formula. it is only catching the 1st BMW row entry in the table.

@@ボリヴァ Yes, VLOOKUP returns always the first match. If you want to return more than 1 row, you must use the FILTER function www.excel-exercise.com/how-to-return-many-rows-with-vlookup/

After half an hour I realised it was because one of my values has a space at the end....

Such common mistake 😉. It's always a good idea to clean you data with TRIM www.excel-exercise.com/remove-spaces-in-excel-with-trim/

Another thing that screws me up all the time: The vlookup value (not the formula, the VALUE. The text it is looking for) MUST be in the first column. You for some stupid reason, cannot lookup values in any other column.

There is 2 ways to return a result on the left column of research. The function XLOOKUP or the combination of INDEX and MATCH
