Insurance companies are “practicing medicine” more than the doctors. Medical EVIDENCE shows what needs to be done for patients but insurance says PROVE IT or they deny coverage without even giving a reason. The system is the problem. NOW the problem has the attention it’s always deserved.
The only way an insurance company can make money is if it takes more from its customers than it pays out. Same with casinos. In order for the business to function, it has to take more than it gives. And since the only service that the company provides is paying out...what service is it actually rendering, other than the ones it has artificially put in place itself like healthcare price negotiation?
I'm not defending them but this isn't exactly true. There is another revenue stream for these companies, a lot of the money that they have is being invested. So they do get a lot of money on investment returns.

I was one of those people who were denied over and over by UHC. Had to fight like hell to get my money out of these crooks. Would never ever never recommend them to my worst enemy.

Her claim was denied; they said this was 'cosmetic, and therefore, motivated by vanity.." MOm's assets in the world - $26,000...They told us we were 'too rich." I do not condone the shooting of a CEO. But I can relate to the anger and frustration at the high handed, arrogant, heartless rule bound insurance companies who routinely shut people out who are in genuine need...
United Healthcare CEO sold stocks earlier this year for $15M and had a salary of $10.2M/year. Thompson’s tenure as CEO of the insurer began April 2021 and marked a period of growth for the company. Under his leadership, profits for UnitedHealthcare surged from $12 billion in 2021, to more than $16 billion in 2023. Thompson received an annual compensation package in 2023 valued at $10.2 million, ranking him among the highest-paid executives at the health care giant. This guy made a lot of money and probably cause a lot of pain for insurers and clients. It finally reached a boiling point for someone willing to risk it all and taking him out right in front of a hotel. Seem almost like a movie scrip.
UHC on my Health card pays for one of my prescriptions which is $49. It comes out of my pocket but if I pay it directly from my pocket and don’t use my healthcare the same medicine cost me $21. What the hell
I've read many articles and watched interviews with doctors and pharmacists, regarding that very issue. If you go to get your scripts and mention that you have insurance, the pharmacist has no choice but to charge the price that the insurance companies dictate. But if you go in w/o insurance, most will charge the base rate or try to find a generic version, which is most often a lot cheaper.
Generic is cheaper than Brand for the pill, don't forget to tell your doctor Generic instead of Brand. I don't trust the doctor he/she knows the health insurance.

That meant that people that never paid into the Medicare system, get the same services, but with the same number of doctors, the same number of hospital beds, longer lines at the pharmacy , but as always the middle class taxes pays for every thing. The system needs a major overhaul.

neither do I. But as we all know, greedy corporate heads aren't human! They gave that up when they put personal wealth above peoples lives!
Send the message y'all. The lower class are hungry and the rich are looking pretty tasty.
I tend to think of C suite executives are organs performing functions for the creature known as the company. Once a company is profits over people, that's it, your morality is subsumed. You see it from top to bottom, where the front line agents are tasked with doing things like giving bad news about decisions made way above their heads, or collecting debts, regardless of your personal feelings. You're not a person anymore, you're a toenail.
Yeah he says that as if it hasn’t been happening at the hands of these companies
Nom nom
@PRISMA-NTM Why don't you join the corporate to see how you are doing!💰
@@PRISMA-NTM how come no one questions how this guy could afford going from Arkansas to NYC, spend time in NYC stalking the CEO, and buy Starbucks? He may not be so "poor".
Let’s not forget about the politicians who are bought and paid for with political contributions. Before you vote, investigate if your choice accepts money from insurance lobbyists
Several health related companies removed CEO info today. Why if they didn't feel guilty AF?
WOW SOMEONE'S ACTUALLY REPORTING ON THE REAL STORY. Kudos 👏
Wow, it's almost like healthcare shouldn't be commodified and should be a human right. You know, the "life" part of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness..." 🤔
I wouldn't go that far. But, they shouldn't be able to deny claims of their customers without valid reasoning.
@@justinethridge9157 You wouldn't go that far? So, the for-profit system we have is working? It's long past time we catch up with the rest of the civilized world.
@justinethridge9157 Commodified healthcare has been normalized, and this is why you can't imagine anything beyond it. The commodification of what is absolutely a human right is disgusting.
May the festive holidays be filled with for-profit healthcare insurance CEOs looking behind their backs...constantly.
Denying hundreds of thousands of claims that result in the death of upwards of 70,000 per year. They’ve gotten away with it for so long even CEOs felt untouchable. No security left him open like a sitting duck.
70,000 people die by what? If it's COVID 19, can't do anything, no room for them.
Crooked company. Wonder if they'll learn anything from this.
Hospitals need to stop with their ridiculous bills also...thats a factor in this mess.
Yep!
The only news channel to report the heart of the matter!!!
“Let the process play out” - problem is the “process” got us to the current state of affairs. Let’s hope this event forces people to take a hard look at the process and make some serious structural changes.
It is not a personal issue. It is an issue faced by millions every day........no care because of the costs, deaths, and life altering illnesses. Go figure! No patient should Ever have to fight for their own healthcare. Ever.
How many more CEOs are walking around with bloody hands? They all need to realize.
It's SO MANY.
My personal experience is majority of the most hyped brands have CEOs robbing the public blind. The blue chip stocks ... Far too many are blue chip because they're stealing from the public...
That's my "insider knowledge" 🍀
It's a dxmned shame watching them brag about profits, wealth and the good life while not mentioning how they literally stole from millions of people their individual bits of peace so they could brag about a patek , yacht etc
Insurance companies are “practicing medicine” more than the doctors. Medical EVIDENCE shows what needs to be done for patients but insurance says PROVE IT or they deny coverage without even giving a reason. The system is the problem. NOW the problem has the attention it’s always deserved.
Insurance compnies who have money as their main incentive shouldn’t even exist. There needs to be a better system.
Its really amazing how united every side of the country is on this issue.
Left or Right.
Its going to be hard to get a jury to convict.
It's almost like the corpos make the laws....
I'm not defending them but this isn't exactly true. There is another revenue stream for these companies, a lot of the money that they have is being invested. So they do get a lot of money on investment returns.
I agree but how much money is enough. You can still be profitable and not be ridiculous.
Exactly this!
@@damo2142 we're sofar past that though. There's a graph you'll find if you do an image search for healthcare cost vs life expectancy by nation. We went off the rails all the way back in the 70s. The why behind that graph is a video How KFCs War on Arby's Ruined Healthcare.
I was one of those people who were denied over and over by UHC. Had to fight like hell to get my money out of these crooks. Would never ever never recommend them to my worst enemy.
Maybe they should just let this guy go
"Let the process play out" We've been trying to let the process play out for over decades.
A reporter should do a deep dive investigation on these ALL American HMOs denied claims
All the appeals in the world aren’t going to bring back a dead family member
For example: a woman whose child needed a wheelchair was denied since they ruled he was 'not disabled'. A cancer warrior post chemo wanted a quality human hair wig so she could feel better and more confident after her ordeal and, get back to work. Her claim was denied; they said this was 'cosmetic, and therefore, motivated by vanity.." We asked for only TWO days of a home health aide to come on board and help us lighten the stress of 24/7 care for our homebound 93 year old mom with dementia. MOm's assets in the world - $26,000...They told us we were 'too rich." I do not condone the shooting of a CEO.
Beautiful reporting. He earned his wages.
Beautiful reporting on his background. He earned his wages.
The motive is exactly what the public thinks it is.
Government needs to work for people not CEOs
As a patient, I shouldn't need to appeal. My insurance should pay for my care. I'm paying them for this service. I'm not getting what I pay for?
I've never seen Americans so united (lol) over anything before in my life. Truly speaks volumes
So you pay $49 with your insurance? Or they pay $49? It may be because the pharmacy gives you discounts if you don't have insurance.
@@axiomaticidioms3857or the insurance company is charging more because they literally just can. No laws about it.
Generic is cheaper than Brand for the pill, don't forget to tell your doctor Generic instead of Brand. I don't trust the doctor he/she knows the health insurance.
When a healthcare insurance CEO gets murdered and the general consensus is "I ain't saying he's right, but I understand..." is how you know that you've got the best healthcare system in the history of the world.
Do an image search for health care cost vs life expectancy by nation. It's an absolutely horrific graph that should be able to be offered by the assassin's defense at trial.
Consequences. You call it "murder", I call it consequences. How many citizens have died waiting on approval from Insurance for procedures? How are those not murders? IF those weren't then this isn't either. Period.
Make CEOs Scared Again
Where is the punishment for the deaths caused by health care coverage denial?
Blue Cross and Blue Shield quickly got the message.
How?
I had an appointment that day and they rescheduled it without notification.... He must have left instructions in the event of his death 🙄
What'd they do?
They reversed their announcement they made on 12/1 about a change to their plans where they would stop covering anesthesia for surgeries that run past whatever arbitrary time they’ve set. They saw what happened and suddenly miraculously decided to scrap that plan
@ they reversed a policy yesterday that would have placed a time limit on Anesthesia coverage during surgery in certain states, and they pulled their CEO about us page for their website
We need Medicare for all
That meant that people that never paid into the Medicare system, get the same services, but with the same number of doctors, the same number of hospital beds, longer lines at the pharmacy , but as always the middle class taxes pays for every thing. The system needs a major overhaul.
Medicare is limited.
Healthcare industry needs to change completely not only just change a “few” things.
All of this scares me. After 17 years with Independence Blue Cross and no complaints, my employer just switched to United Healthcare effective January 1st. Now I am hearing about how horrible it is. I am very concerned for my future health care needs.
Insurance denied coverage for anesthesia for gall bladder removal surgery because they said anesthesia was not needed.
Talk to your state reps, let people know on social media….has any of that worked for anyone recently?? So they can Deny, Delay, Defend more? Its time to acknowledge this country needs radical changes and start working towards them in a meaningful way - not corporate lip service
no war but class war
Turns out that cheating people can be dangerous. Who knew?
Big props to you KTSM 9 News, finally covering the right information! Expose United Healthcare for what they're doing.
“The first reaction is ‘What a tragedy’” - Really? My first reaction was “finally, effective action.” Would the news run a story about the insurance coverage denials if it weren’t for this Robin Hood character assassinating the CEO? No.
This is the first news story ive seen focusing on the actual motivations behind the shooting.
I got a denial last week from Tenncare. Dont know how but suddenly they started taking out 174.70 of my disability check. Now i get 820.00 a month and 350.00 is rent each month.😡 of course it was my fault even tho it showed my mail from them got sent back to them where they wanted my bank statement even tho they had it. The day i got my denied letter a rep from Tenncare i was talking to said my appeal ended the day before! WTF? She knew it was their mistake but i have to apply again while they suck money out my check. How do i tell my 12yr old grandson living here Christmas will be very late.
That CEO and the rest make millions while we get denied, apply again, it takes months to go through the system 🤬 people are suffering & dropping 💀including kids. Disgusting POS 😡
Don't give up, keep pushing, don't give up, talk to the state, employer, Don't Give Up.
Oh you loved one died? I guess they gave up.
To advocate for yourself medically, it takes a level of energy and social support that ill people usually don't have access to. Telling people who can't do things to continue doing things they cannot do is pure cruelty
The only answer he had was..... you just need to complain more until folks listen or you just dont need medical care anymore ..... ever.
The sad truth is that deny delay defend is legal murder and what this guy did is not
FINALLY -- focus on the real victims: the millions of vulnerable victims of predatory insurance companies. All this 24/7 focus on the blood money millionaire CEO has been disgusting.
Your claim was denied because the bullet wounds were deemed to be a pre-existing condition
"The motive is unclear".... Really? Do they truly believe the motive is unclear?
This was quite a pushback. This industry has blood on its hands. The medical-insurance-pharmaceutical industry treats Americans like money widgets to drain for profit.
2:41...I do. WE DO. I want them scared out of their minds.
UHC has always been horrible insurance coverage. They would deny a 50 dollars doctor fee.
I have an idea….Let’s just pay the insurance premiums directly to an account that goes to the doctors/hospitals for care when needed. Cut out all insurance companies
