  • Join us for an insightful episode where we delve into osteoporosis and strategies for building strong bones with Professor Belinda Beck, an expert in bone health.
    Summary:
In this episode, Shelley Craft engages in a conversation with Professor Belinda Beck about osteoporosis, its causes, risk factors, diagnosis, and preventive measures. The discussion includes insights into nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle choices.
    Highlights:
Osteoporosis Insight: Osteoporosis weakens bones, affecting both genders, especially postmenopausal women.
Risk Factors: Age, genetics, gender, hormones, low calcium/vitamin D intake, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, excessive alcohol, and certain conditions increase osteoporosis risk.
Calcium Significance: Calcium is essential for bone health; its deficiency leads to bone loss.
Vitamin D's Role: Vitamin D aids calcium absorption, obtained through sunlight, fish, and fortified dairy.
Exercise Benefits: Weight-bearing activities and resistance training can improve bone strength and density.
Bone Density Testing: Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans evaluate bone density using T-scores.
Early Awareness: Discussing osteoporosis with a doctor allows timely intervention and prevention.
Nutrition and Lifestyle: A balanced diet rich in calcium, vitamin D, plus quitting smoking and moderating alcohol, supports bone health.
Osteopenia Alert: Low bone mass or osteopenia signals fracture risk, warranting preventive action.

I have been taking the Onera program for two years. My bone density has improved a lot without taking any medications. I'm no longer oesteoporotic thanks to professor Belinda Beck, even though I'm still in the osteopenia category. The exercise not only helped my bone, but in overall fitness. It's a pity that not many people know about this program.

Question… were there any surprises regarding what to eat? I’m curious because I am a vegetarian.

Superb that I’ve come across your channel. Great to learn more on this topic. I just recently got diagnosed with osteoporsis. Am a Belgian lady age 56. Love to strengthen my bones in a natural way and yes I am willing to make a huge effort. Love to check out more topics on your channel. Huge thanks from Belgium 🌟🙏🌟

Thank you for this interview - great questioning and Belinda is always great to listen to. I am undertaking the Onero program, just as Belinda explained, under the supervision of a physiotherapist. The Onero program does not include the dietary advice though, just the exercise and the balance work. I'm nearly 7 months into the program and have had significant straightening in my upper back, gaining 1 cm in height, so I know that the exercises are making a difference. I am also now jumping - but I've had to work up to that. I'd encourage any woman with osteopenia or osteoporosis to check out the Onero program and see if there is a physio near them who can help you out, because doctors only prescribe medication, tell you to eat calcium and to do "load bearing" exercise but really focus only on the medications. The medications might be necessary, but have serious side effects especially over a long term. Osteoporosis is preventable and doctors and the medical profession should be doing more especially for menopausal women to watch out for the red flags. My doctor NEVER spoke to me about Osteo and I ended up with it. Bitterly disappointed in the medical approach to Osteo and thank Belinka for her dedicated work on improving bone health and bone strength for (mostly) older women and men.

I wish there was this program here in the US. I can't find a qualified PT to work with, and gym trainers aren't qualified for osteoporosis. Can't find any info on specific types of exercises that DO help either, and how to safely build up to the appropriate weight that is effective.

Hi, check out this presentation - the speaker mentions a US-based PT who trains to the LiftMor program. ruclips.net/video/epvQJkP-aYI/видео.htmlsi=eIiMFGBP7CnaUDl7
Later next month, look for another OsteoBoston video, “Unwrapping the Liftmore Protocol” with Sarah Purcell
