Hit el toro a handful of times, Miramar several. The MAGTF demo is always great. Those Broncos at the beginning of this bring back memories, great old plane.
Man.... for any aviation nerd...this is pretty amazing. I was infantry, but always loved planes. Not sure what year this was, obviously mid 90s. But again, as an aviation geek.... broncos (gone), both a B-1 and B-2 flyover (which you never see anymore), and a F-117 (gone). Pretty badass lineup
I went to El Toro a few times (was there for the crash in 93). Been to Miramar a few times... was wondering if the MAGTF demo would be the exact same... then you see Recon jumping out of Broncos. Thats a throwback for sure. Lots of great old birds in this vid, thanks for the upload. This was back when they didnt skimp the budget. You never see the big bomber demos at Miramar.
I remember this because I work the airshow. I was a Marine working station fuels. I was out in Orange County about 4 weeks ago and the base has been leveled to the ground. The front gate is gone. What use to be the front gate is now some apartments. Now I have only memories. I miss my time at MCAS El Toro and the 90's.
I must have gone to almost every air show but one or two at El Toro between '88 and the closure since I grew up in the area. Sad to hear that it's in the state it's in, +Duderocks5539. Anyway, I'm looking for any footage, or anyone who remembers witnessing an incident at an air show that's still one of the funniest things I've ever seen. It occured at one of the shows between (pretty sure) '90 and '93: My dad, his friend, his son and myself were walking in the grass somewhere you could clearly see the runway(s) that the large aircraft used when taxiing between flights or periods of being on display, etc. I'm 90% sure it was a B-1 Bomber we were all watching as it made a slow, cautious turn onto another part of the runway back to a hangar or something. Just as it seemed to be completing the turn it's jet exhaust trajectory happened to sweep across a section of grass near the runway upon which sat merely one lonesome blue Port-O-Potty... That thing went from being stationary to tumbling end over end over end at a full olympic sprinter's pace for what must have been 100's of feet until it came to rest on it's side. and the door fell open. That's what I KNOW we saw, but since then it's become quite a family legend and neither my Dad nor Myself know if we added this embellishment accidentally because of how often we callously laughed at the possibility, or if we actually saw it... but the story goes that a moment later some poor bastard came crawling out of the toilet over the door... bluer than a smurf of course. So, can anybody corroborate or deny any of this story or point me to any articles or info of any kind regarding the incident? Thanks for reading and for any thoughts/info anyone might remember, I know it's this tiny little incident but its been a great go-to story i've told as an ice breaker on dates and at parties as long as i can remember and would like to know more if possible.
