Great video man! I too own a magical butter machine that I've used for tinctures. To make a concentrated extract tincture rather than the extract paste try this. First get your mushrooms weighed out like you did. Put them into the magical butter machine with ever clear covering the mushrooms and run it for 4-6 hours. Set the temperature on the Magical butter machine as you did. The machine will grind the mushrooms into powder while being being heated and processed. Next, pour the alcohol mushroom concoction through the magical butter filter and strain it as you did into a container. Next, use an "water/alcohol distiller" machine and pour the strained solution into it. Keep track of how much alcohol your putting into this machine. What will start coming out of the distiller will be pure ever clear. Use a Pyrex pitcher with fluid measurements printed on it so you know exactly how much Ever clear is coming out from the distiller & how much concentrated tincture is left inside the distiller. From here you decide how concentrated you want your tincture to be! Now just pour the contents of the distiller through a mesh screen and bottle it up you're done! This method to me is a lot simpler. I've made concentrated tinctures like this for years using weed. note- Lions mane mushrooms only require a water extraction, most other medicinal mushrooms require a double extraction of water and alcohol. Hope this helps someone. peace.

Great video! I liked that you walked viewers through each step, giving detailed instructions, and then the final admonition to be cautious about consumption of mushroom extracts due to potential toxicity concerns. Mushrooms have A LOT to offer in terms of medicinal and health applications and uses, so much that the conventional medicinal industry is lagging behind in spearheading the effort to use mushrooms because it could reduce sales and profits from their other non-mushroom products (e.g., if a mushroom extract can more effectively treat a particular cancer or immunodeficiency, then the sales of their non-mushroom treatments for such health problems will abate). Showing people how to do mushroom extractions safely helps to empower people to use medicinal mushrooms to try to help themselves when the medical industry is doing little to help in this area.

Interesting to see the tools you are using in your lab. I've only used traditional glassware - organic chemistry style. A tip for anyone reading this - I would not use isopropyl alcohol to rinse your Buchner funnel filter in between uses. You will get some trace amounts of iso in your end product and it is toxic. Use the ethanol. When making products in the lab for human consumption you need to be really careful, and I would recommend avoiding the use of anything toxic in the process - including extremely high proof ethanol (the purification past 95% alcohol will involve benzene or some alkane that you don't want to to be eating).

3:29 So just a heads up for anyone who has a similar situation where you can’t get high proof alcohol. Use a technique called “salting out” to remove the water. Fill a jar, add a bit of salt to it, let it sit until you see the separated layers.

As far as I've read with lion's main. Hot water extraction is what you need to get the desired beta-glucans. Alcohol extraction pull good terpenes from Reshi and Chaga but most other medicinal mushrooms are best made with a dual or just hot water extraction. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I had just pulled out some Pine pollen tincture for my husband and as he was taking it the guys on the video, which was not related to health issues, began talking about Pine Pollen. They guest has a business where he makes extracts and such. In talking about Pine pollen he stated it should not be tinctured because of the enzyme activity is degraded. That lead me to think I need to research enzyme activity in mushrooms. Just a thought

Great vid! Loins Mane extract is exactly what I am looking for. I would like to take a kilo of fresh and dry it,. then do a two step extraction (2nd step water simmer method mentioned below),. then mixing the two extracts,. eventually letting it all dry out and turning it into powder. From what I understand the 2 step is needed for all of the medicinal properties as not all comes out with just alcohol. Am I wrong here? I hope I am making sense. I wonder if that would work? Where can I get the vacuum / ethanol evaporator? Also,. (second step I have heard many talk about) I would be doing a hot to a simmer water extract from the solids that you have left over,. from the cloth,..as I heard that some of the medicinal properties need to be brought out that way and then combined with the other extracted by alcohol?? Or can you do a heat on the butter machine with the ethanol in it? That's probably a very stupid question. Lol

that you put the mushrooms in de Magic Butter Machine with Ethanol and after four hours you take it out. That proces is that a quick version of extracting the mushrooms? Because normally they put the mushrooms in a jar with alcohol and let it stay for 6 weeks. This is a long proces and if the Mag Butter reduce this in 4 hours that would be great. If so can you cook the leftover in water and mix that with the extracted ethanol and make tincture/liquid?

These products are convenient in that you don't have to buy a separate vacuum pump, or heating mantle. They kinda suck because they are one trick ponies. I prefer to have the actual lab equipment for the modularity.

What do you all think about this statement?
"We recommend dual extracts of reishi and chaga. However, for the other mushrooms like cordyceps, lion’s mane, turkey tail, shiitake and maitake, it’s not entirely necessary and potentially detrimental to employ dual extraction. There isn’t any primary, non-water soluble, compounds of note in these mushrooms."
By dual extraction, they mean using water and alcohol extraction methods. Their statement suggests don't use alcohol for most mushrooms.

I'd love your thoughts on this as well. Every time I get around to medicine making time I'm just perplexed at the amount of conflicting information I get around alcohol and water for mushrooms.

@@Djredsielofficial That was a long way back. It was on a supposedly reputable site but I no longer remember where. It no long exists so I suspect it was probably wrong.

Does the moisture in the fresh mushroom mess up the alcohol extraction? As they both have different boiling points.

Stuff like triterpenes are alcohols themselves and mix into solution. Most of the medicinal compounds are either alcohol-miscible or alcohol-soluble
