I have watched this movie about 100 times, and when that cross appears and he starts to sing, I cry every single time, without fail. Any time in life when you think you have "serious" problems, watch this movie and it will put your problems in perspective, believe me!
I remember watching this movie as a kid and it changed my life,I'm not sure how to explain it but I became more grateful for what I had and realized how blessed I was, wish everyone could watch a movie like this.
Cannot describe the feeling at the end of the film. I was so shocked by the subject of the film and the song at the end instantly put me into a stand still.
I remember the first time I watched this film. A film has never in my life made me feel any emotion from it but I cried at this ending and felt a little overwhelmed
This movie actually change the way I look at my life. It challenged me to take on a journey that I started to cherish the things around me, like my family, the people who loved me and everything else. Thank you for sharing this. Movies like this got overlooked in today's money and result driven showbiz.
***** Thanks. Places like that and you may as well be on the dark side of the moon. So many say there are things they would never do just to survive but no one really know until facing the possibility of death by starvation. Survival instinct is among the most strongest instincts, if not THE strongest.
I know there is a lot of religious debate going on here, about if God helped them climb out of those mountains, did God give them the strength to live, etc. Well, for my part - I'm an atheist and yet I find this movie to be so completely life-affirming and amazing. And I'm also moved by the cross at the end, not because I believe in an after-life, but because it's a symbol of hope and endurance and a tribute to their courage in putting just one more foot forward, one foot at a time until they got out of that place. They must have decided that since they were trapped, they might as well die trying to get out of there instead of dying just sitting there waiting for it to happen. And of course, they did try and they are still ALIVE!!!
Atheist here too and they got out because they had no other choice and wanted to get out, and because Nando was determined to see his father. That's it, nothing to do with any "god". Amazing feat of survival, amazing story. Hats off to all of them, especially Nando and Cannessa.
Un film muy bien hecho , por supuesto que los sobrevivientes sufrieron mucho mas, estoy segura . Pero de todos modos se hizo una gran pelicula..Y esta version de Aaron con Ave Maria es la mejor de todas ! 🦋
i was tying to listen to the music and remember them. it sucks that i gotta read casting direcor etc. rip those that died. and may God bless those that made it out. a true story of tenacity. many years ago, but i reverence those passed and applaud the living an epic story of .. well , l, thankyou. to all. God Bless. out
Don't just watch the movie get yourself in touch with Ricardo Pena at Alpine Expeditions and go and visit the scene where this amazing story took place? I have done the trip twice now and it is amazing to be there high in the mountains, pay my respects at the cross (the cross shown in the film is not the actual cross) and, best of all, travel with survivor Eduardo Strauch himself and learn more about what happened and his life since.
+skibumwa2001 I would have to disagree I've seen many angles of the Andes site, and none had the huge volcano opening type, with peaks in a circle surrounding as in this video, the Andes crash was more of a steep valley with numerous smaller peaks.. Plus the Andes cross was in the valley itself, a bit further downhill from the fuselage site. This cross is built on a peak, so I believe this is a dedication in the Canadian Rockies from the filmmakers to the Uruguayans.
I appreciate your hike experience if your being truthful, but there is no cross mounted on a peak in the Andes crash site, maybe google image or search further, but the Andes cross is smaller and presented in the fuselage wreckage in the middle of the valley, plus the rocks of the Andes are more grey pinkish, rather than the dark blue and grey of the Rockies above... And there is no huge volcano mouth like in this video near the Andes crash site, the mountains were not as sharp. Sorry.
skibumwa2001 Well this was bugging me, not that I doubted my info, but I checked the IMDB page for the movie Alive, and in the trivia it states: "The cross shown in the end credits is not the real cross that stands at the burial place. You can see the real cross on the Wikipedia page for 1972 Andes Flight disaster." So sorry you didn't recognize the Andes from the Rockies, I've studied this survival story since the early 90's and had pics of the Andes crash site on my bedroom wall for the last 15yrs, and I knew those mountains, and that cross wasn't the Andes.
Also I just checked this video shows trees, and shrubs on those mountains! The middle of the Andes has no greenery near the crash site! I'm doubting you ever hiked there sir. skibumwa2001
skibumwa2001 I'm from Vancouver Canada, but that USA bash rant was irrelevant to this discussion. Again nothing grows up near the Argentinian Andes crash site, trees, greenery whatever you want to call it, and cheers for your travel work, I have also travelled much too... But again this video is not the Andes, it's the Rockies, for all the experience you've had it's curious you can't tell the difference, but forgive me for this long debate, I just never get into something unless I'm sure I'm right, and hopefully this will help you to not say this video is the Andes in front of others, that may be more judgmental than myself.
Well, perhaps you should read Fernando Parrado's book "Miracle in the Andes" before you make such a unfounded statement. You know, he wouldn't agree with you, and today still doesn't agree with your statement. Check this out: www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/101310.Nando_Parrado
Bob Moretti To me, this is NOT an unfounded statement. I stand behind what I stated because I BELIEVE that my statement is FACT. This is my own personal opinion about what happened. I respect the way Nando feels about God and what God is to him. If he would disagree with him, I too would disagree with him as well. We would simply have to agree to disagree because my personal view of God and what he is to ME, does not coincide with Nando's statements. Everyone is entitled to their OWN opinion and should also respect the opinions of others.
Your personal opinion defies the statements of the man you are attributing it to. So no, your belief is inaccurate. Keep believing in your mythical magic. And it sure is cool you have insulted the will to survive of the man who accomplished this remarkable feat.
And lets be real, facts are NOT beliefs, they are FACTS. Your belief that it is FACT is ludicrous. If I believe that fire-breathing unicorns from space live in my closet, it doesn't make it fact. You religious nuts are just that: nuts.
Bob Moretti Not to me it doesn't. My belief is accurate to me, because I choose to believe it. Just as YOU choose to believe something different. This is a FREE country and if I choose to believe that unicorns exist and live in my closet, that is MY choice to make. Im not insulting you, Nando or anyone else. There is simply a difference of beliefs and opinions and for you to resort to insulting someone because they have their own shows what a sad and disappointing soul. You sir are also a classless human being with NO respect for others let alone their opinions or beliefs. You lack the education and experience enough to realize that if one BELIEVES in something, it is also regarded as a FACT. My beliefs are FACTS TO ME. You have more serious issues to address than trolling RUclips comments sections. Go back to your couch doctor and hopefully YOUR mystically magical narrow brain improves with time. Your lesson of the day is: RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS AND BELIEFS, NOT TO MENTION THE PERSON WITH DIFFERENT BELIEFS AND OPINIONS, WHETHER YOU AGREE WITH THEM OR DISAGREE WITH THEM. Obviously your upbringing didn't include that!
Exactly as i felt, i don`t know why but it made me very emotional at the end, maybe as humans we can relate to amazing stories of survival, did you know that you can trek to the plane crash site in the Andes and trace thier escape route, maybe put it on my bucket list lol
They make the valley of The producers of this film used the background of the Valley of Tears and using Ave Maria as the ending song because most of those who died in the Andes plane disaster were Catholics.
@p9221066 they are now mostly still living in Argentina and other parts of South America and have families. I saw a documentary a few weeks ago interviewing them all and they all seem fine. I'm sure there are mental scars but thats expected.
@lennyss it is a fact that there is no afterlife? i'm not promoting either side, but the only fact is that we don't know if there is an afterlife. i'm fine with you not believing that there is an afterlife, but how can you prove that there isn't? there is no fact that god created the universe, but it is not fact that the big bang THEORY happened and god was not involved either. again i'm not promoting anything other than we don't really know what happens. there could be an afterlife
@izzykatherine I don't understand how a film about desperate people eating eating each other proves the exsistance of a god? Surely he wouldn't have let the plane crash and then let them eat each other. Why didn't he pick the plane up with his big goddy hand and land them safely? Putting some nice music at the end of the movie isn't going to make me a believer.
THE HUMAN BODY KNOWS ONE WORD IN TIME OF DESPERATION "SURVIVAL" IT WILL DO WHATEVER IT HAS TO IN ORDER TO SURVIVE. IT'S CALLED HUMAN INSTINCT. THE SIMPLE FACT THESE MEN SURVIVED PROVE THEIR IS A "GOD" CAN YOU POSSIBLY IMAGINE THE MENTAL TURMOIL THESE MEN HAD TO SUFFER? DONT FORGET....OTHERS HAD TO DIE IN ORDER TO FEED THE MEN WHO SURVIVED....DON'T EVER QUESTION GOD!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!! I AM PRETTY SURE, NOT ONE MAN STANDING CURSED GOD WHEN THEY SAW THAT HELICOPTER COMING OVER THE MOUNTAIN!!!!!!!

What a beautiful rendition of Ave Maria by Aaron Neville, brings tears to my eyes, the film , the ending and the song.
It's the best rendition I've ever heard of that song nothing comes close
Aaron singing Ave Maria might just be the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.💜
Cannot describe the feeling at the end of the film. I was so shocked by the subject of the film and the song at the end instantly put me into a stand still.

Just listening to' Ave Maria' now many years after I first saw the film still brings tears to my eyes.
Just watching a documentary about the plane crash and this piece of music immediately came into my mind.
the ending for Alive always brings tear to my eye. the chopper coming over the top of the moutain and the guy holding up the little shoe...
Ethan Hawke
We should all remember, how lucky we are, and have around us everyday 👏🏻 and the people we share our lives with x

Aaron Neville sings this song the best. No one compares.
Linda Ronstadt.
TTundragrizzly, Andrea Bocelli's rendition is equally as beautiful & moving.
Except the botched pronunciation. Americans...
I love this song and this movie.
That mountain practically told them to drop dead but they survived.

Thanks.

Amazing film and song
Great movie, it shows you what "will" is all about. The Pianist did that as well.
amazing song and film 10 out of 10
May i suggest to people to read the book by Nando Parrado (Survivor) Miracle in the Andes, it gives an incite into thier amazing story of survival.
i think it is better than the Piers Paul Read account. simply amazing.
Its so beautiful no one disliked it

Ave Maria gratia plena. - We’re here for you ... ➕
@cyclol. thank u so much for mentioning the singer. I have been trying to find this version of ave maria for ages

Well Joe, maybe their faith in god helped them make it . But they did it.
Joe Moe
So what do you think helped them?
You better hope your right that there is no heaven. There is and GOD will judge us is my opinion.
Atheist here too and they got out because they had no other choice and wanted to get out, and because Nando was determined to see his father. That's it, nothing to do with any "god". Amazing feat of survival, amazing story. Hats off to all of them, especially Nando and Cannessa.

The best part of the movie.
Aaron Neville Did A Great Job It Should Of Made The Soundtrack To This Movie
I agree.
agreed, its the best
This is not the actual crash site, this is the Canadian Rockies where they filmed the movie.. So I wonder if they built that cross there for that too?

Vivos foi realmente, tragédia triste mais na certeza que N.sra estava lá, para ampara aqueles que ficaram.

I felt the same way as these people when I waited 30 minutes for a pizza the struggle is real 😂😂

Aron Neville's version is beautiful but Andrea boccelli is by far the best ive heard yet!
Boccelli is great but this is Aaron's song by far.
If you read the book vivos in Spanish sounds more dramatic,
The Spanish version of this story is a lot more emotional and haunting with the deaths. This one should have been more harsh Rated R
I loved this version too. The plane crash scene is crazy.
😢💔
nah, now can someone pass me a piece of the co-pilot?
How can you jugde this? are u serious?
