You can't help and save everyone and take everyone with you. We tell our young people to check their friends and cousins who aren't doing the right things because they will be judged by the company they keep.We had an older cousin who idolized Al Capone and started young by getting in public shootouts starting on his path to destruction. He spent his late teens and entire adult life in prison having to attend funerals of his mother and sister in chains accompanied by armed guards. He died mere months after receiving compassionate release. College professors and notable people lauded him at his funeral for being highly intelligent but we all asked why he couldn't accomplish that on the outside. I don't think Ja is that far gone but Ja Morant's behavior is escalating putting him under scrutiny and closer and closer to an encounter with police which may not end well.
If he truly felt they were people worth being friends with he would elevate them to positions that take them away from this kind of life; Like how Lebron did with his friends. He just wants to have an entourage, but he'll realize eventually you'll pay in more ways than one playing that game.
Kenny (Kot4q) from the Through the Wire podcast had a fantastic point about Ja. There are a lot of kids in the US, especially Black kids, who are stuck in that position, and for millionaire Ja Morant to put himself in situations like this when he doesn't have to is disrespectful if not insulting to them. And I could not agree more. These kids live in neighborhoods with horrifically underfunded schools, with zero good jobs, with terrible utilities, with overwhelmed health care systems, with unsafe and overpriced housing, and with little access to fresh, affordable food. One or both of their parents likely work 50, 60+ hours a week, and they're still too poor to go to the doctor if they get sick. And in a society where your net worth and your worth as a person are seen as one and the same, these kids are stuck in an environment where the only people with any meaningful money are gang members. They get told that the only way for them to reliably put food on their table is to join an organization where willingness to commit violent crime is a prerequisite for entry. Despite the fact historically, crime rates plummet when living conditons rise, their local governments are much more focused on throwing maximum sentences at criminals than on addressing the root causes of crime, which leads to more single parent households, which leads to more poverty, which leads to higher crime rates. It is a vicious cycle, and there are millions of people, hundreds of thousands of kids, stuck in it. Utterly abandoned by the system. Ja Morant is a millionaire. Ja Morant could comfortably retire right now on the money he'll make this year alone, and he's set to make even more annually over the next 4 years. His decision to put himself adjacent to gang life is a slap in the face to every kid living in a low income, crime ridden neighborhood with no clear way out. There are thousands of kids in Memphis and the surrounding area whose lives would be changed forever by 1% of what Ja Morant makes in a year, and they have to sit there and watch him pretend to live the life that or someone they love are stuck in.
I hope in five years time Ja is sat there on the panel talking to the guys about how he was able to get back on the right track, he could be a huge inspiration to people. In a way this low is an opportunity for him to do something extraordinary and I hope he's able to do it.

Black in black crime hasn't gotten worse, it's just getting more attention from a certain part of the media. Ja is just being a dummy and he needs to cut it out. Stay in school, kids.
That stupid ass media phrase shouldn't even be part of your vocabulary in 2023. Crime happens to the people in your community who you're around. You don't hear that phrase framed any other way.
NBA should hold these players accountable. So that they'd understand that they should be professionals outside the court and they are role models that people look up to especially when you're an all star. Ja is risking what he worked for in High school and college just to act like a thug
yep, I was wasting my time playing videogames instead of studying hard but I wasnt doing some of those dumb stuff these guys do, age should never be an excuse for some behavior that is simply wrong. There are a lot of players in the nba under 25 and none of them got into this mess that Ja has.
I blame it on the environment he grew up in. This is not a too young to be mature issue, this is the problem of not receiving a well-rounded education which teaches this young man how to be respectful and honourable.
Well said Charles, I agree. Ja Morant has the potential to bring a championship to the city of Memphis. He's the complete package in my opinon, and has the IT factor. The team could still acquire another really good player though in my opinion to help them get to the Finals. Hopefully he can turn his self-destructive behavior around. Godspeed Ja Morant. It would be great to see the city of Memphis win their first World title in professional sports.
As always, Chuck goes where everyone else in sports media is too cowardly to go. This is not just about Ja Morrant making a bad; Ja is a wealthy/celebrity example of the millions of black men who throw their lives away to embrace a violent and destructive culture. I wish Chuck had also mentioned how Ja and the Grizz are using this extended "mental health recovery" scam narrative to avoid a mandatory 50-game (minimum) suspension from the NBA
Love the accountability from the old dogs. He will be ok in the end but I think Chuck nailed it, surround yourself with better people. This young man has a bright future!
I'm glad that Ja took ownership of his own faults. The lifestyle was in a fast lane, and he just needed to reset himself and reevaluate his environment. He didn't grow up in a bad situation, so he will get back on the right track. I'm sure all the hard work his father put in with him to get him this far will not fail. Everyone will see a new, improved version of himself when he returns.

I don't even follow basketball, but wow. This was shown on today's TV? Bravo Chuck!
Oldschool Wisdom Right there!!
I hope in five years time Ja is sat there on the panel talking to the guys about how he was able to get back on the right track, he could be a huge inspiration to people. In a way this low is an opportunity for him to do something extraordinary and I hope he's able to do it.
Welp. He did it again.
Man I’d love to have a beer with chuck. Real knowledge
Love Charles or hate him, he speak facts. I don't always agree with him. But gotta respect a man that stands on his word, no matter what. Him and Shannon are speaking so much truth about this situation.

Sick and tired of people defending Ja, or trying to make it look less bad than it is ...
I knew Chuck would not let it slide. He's too stoic for that. Thank you sir!
Ja is one of the most freehearded guys in Memphis Tennessee and I hurt that he’s experiencing this.
He's being herded, and yet he's free.
Yes Indeed
I'm with you on that.
Praying for him he's better than that.
Superstars either learn or burn. Hes experiencing what his fantasy is the good & bad..now it's up for him to grow up or whither & fall..its mans game not a playground.this is why you dont idolize no star...you hurting for him & he doesn't even know you exists..feel sorry for those you know & do what you can to help them if its just words of encouragement..regardless of what happens to him hes rich! However, do you I get it he seems to be s nice dude..but he better get out of fantasy land.
He brought it on himself
Chuck is 100% truth. I never understood why folks dislike him. He holds people accountable to themselves, and also to their team/community.
fantastic take. as usual, from chuck. just honest truth, no sugar coating and fake bs
Charles Barkley is incredible, excellent words of wisdom and reality check. This crew is the best.
Charles Barkley you did it in response to the Ja Morant incidents. Great response Charles.
I have been waiting on his take on this. Cannot say that about many others in the media
But y’all don’t march to stop killing each other. Y’all protest and destroy your own communities.
Regardless black on black crime should be the main focus
Chuck doesn't know jack about so called "black on black crime" but the terminology. It's just a punchline for him in the joke he's playing on y'all.
@@JFDOOM7 Who is y'all? Be specific and say it with your chest.
NBA should hold these players accountable. So that they'd understand that they should be professionals outside the court and they are role models that people look up to especially when you're an all star. Ja is risking what he worked for in High school and college just to act like a thug
Imagine David stern was there

for a minute there i thought chuck said he only takes his gun to basketball practice lol.
Man i love you Chuck never stop being real
Chuck is a smart dude, and on top of that hes wise.
At 23, I was starting my internship and investing in my future. People who are making excuses for Ja are just as mature as this “kid.”
yep, I was wasting my time playing videogames instead of studying hard but I wasnt doing some of those dumb stuff these guys do, age should never be an excuse for some behavior that is simply wrong.
There are a lot of players in the nba under 25 and none of them got into this mess that Ja has.
yeah. this "kid" has kid himself.
I blame it on the environment he grew up in. This is not a too young to be mature issue, this is the problem of not receiving a well-rounded education which teaches this young man how to be respectful and honourable.
Bro he ain't you and you ain't him. Don't make this bout you by comparison yourself to him because most likely ain't no comparison.
@@benjaminwebber196 thanks for proving my point.
He's a immature coat rack . Best of luck with that.
Love you Charles!!!! Thank goodness for Men like you
Great comments Charles well said!!
Best thing he can do… call Lebron …
because Lebron knows all the big jewish execs and can have the media change the narrative on the situation??
@@greenkidd529 Nah because Lebron is not a childish fool who records himself playing with guns in da club, lol
Ja gotta wake up I know it's different sport but you see how quickly Henry Ruggs messed up his life and career from one huge mistake
0:54 Adam Shiver 💀
Everyone should start calling Ja Morant “Clarence” in reference to the guy Eminem rap battles at the end of 8 Mile😂
Question: what does Ja Morant do if "The people around him" are his teammates that are always trying to act "HOOD"?
Cough cough Dylan brooks
Charles; "if you gonna have a gun- you have to be really really responsible with it!"
That says it all!
I'm with Chuck on this! Ja Morant needs to grow up! Period!
I love Chuck
He should be thrown out for a full season. People without his status would be prosecuted for the same
What was his crime? Don’t worry. I’ll wait.
Thank you Charles
Chuck in 60fps is different
Normally I don’t agree with Charles opinions however Bro I totally agree with this one
Same I dont either but I'm with him on this
Love the accountability from the old dogs. He will be ok in the end but I think Chuck nailed it, surround yourself with better people. This young man has a bright future!
joe mixon ja morant and shawn kemp in the last few days have gone gangsta
I'm glad that Ja took ownership of his own faults. The lifestyle was in a fast lane, and he just needed to reset himself and reevaluate his environment. He didn't grow up in a bad situation, so he will get back on the right track. I'm sure all the hard work his father put in with him to get him this far will not fail. Everyone will see a new, improved version of himself when he returns.
If you believe Ja wrote that statement, you are as gullible as my 3yo. 😂
Jahahah Ja didnt write that. Dude been a bitch since day one in the league and made the culture of that team a bitch.
@C.J. It doesn't matter who wrote it, but it is what it is, and if he learns his lesson, then it's history... we are all human, and nobody is perfect .
That's just pr, if he took responsibility he would have done so after the team meeting. That's the fake stuff people do after they get into trouble.
The fake gangsters are the best. He grew up worrying about his next Fro- yo. He's a breadstick in a tank top, guess that's why he needs a gun
Anyone who is 23 is not a kid. But if people keep calling Ja a kid like Charles Barkley was doing then Ja will continue to act like one.
You must be 23. lol
Lmao….23 is a kid. Your brain literally doesn’t stop forming until your 25-26 and in todays society most kids are still living with their parents until they’re 30.
@@joeshmoe8134 foh 23 ain't no damn kid your 5 years removed from high school n out here in the real world if you 23 and still feel like a kid look in the mirror
@@twonumber22 nah he smart that what he is who tf still thinks there a kid at 23 you needa grow up n get right

I some how love serious chuck just as much as chuck chuck
Yall quick to call someone a kid when you don't want to hold them accountable for their actions . Ja is a twenty-four-year-old man with a child. he knew better but for some strange reason felt as though he has a point to prove. He deserves what's going on with him hopefully he makes better decisions. Cuz he hustling backwards
Your rich , hire a body guard or have your team .. provide one for u .. don’t put yourself in , bad Situations .. but young people , think they are invincible. Hopefully ja , learns and be better
This was wayyyyyyyyyyy worse then what kyrie did,,,,,they didn’t keep the same energy smh
Kyrie was political
They did lol. He’s going to miss more games than Kyrie and go through similar guidelines in-house that Kai had to clear before he returned to the court. 50 game suspension was never on the table for Ja. This is the closest thing to being held accountable as hell get
Great job Charles we need more men like you speaking up.
Healing process?? How sensitive have we become that we can’t say suspension wtf😂
Why they use “weigh” w chuck?😂
SMH 😭😭
Great message by Chuck
“If you find your identity in yourself and you don’t find your identity in the opinions of others then you don’t need that validation and love from other people when you can get it from yourself.”
Idk y Ja would do that
Blame the ignorant gangsta rap culture we somehow embrace. Ja wants to be Lil Baby not Steph.
Lazy opinion
Oh please.
@@Warden033 It is the obvious answer. Gangsta rap really fucked up black culture.
Would you rather see members of congress actually shooting at images of their fellow members? Is that your idea of a healthy culture?
"gangster rap," which is not what it is now, has been around since the mid 80's and 90s! back when players that would act gangster were actually from that life, back when players could dress like a gangster to media events. the difference is social media!! That's where the Blame should be on
THANK YOU Sir Charles!!! For speaking truth and morality, before leaders and a culture that are insane.
