Oh I love Van Canto! So about the guitar solo they run the microphone through a guitar amp and that is how they add the distortion for the solo. I think a frankly hilarious interview of them is where Stefan one of the mimics (that is what they call the vocalists imitating the sound of an instrument) play a guitar riff on his guitar and then begins to sing it afterwards. He talks a little about what sounds and syllables they use to imitate a certain guitar sound and he does the guitar solo thing with and without distortion so you know what he does exactly. Long story short the mimics do all play instruments they thought it was funny to start an acapella metal band. I don't know the names of all of the band members but the male lead singer here is Sly and the female lead singer is Inga, Sly was replaced with Hagen for Trust In Rust but in To The Power Of Eight Sly returned and they are now a band with 7 vocalists. My dad while being aware of Van Canto was caught so off guard when one of their Inga heavy songs came on and thought he heard Tarja sing at first haha. Anyways recommendations! Falling Down, Faith Focus Finish, Raise Your Horns (for a bit of growling done by Hagen), Badaboom, The Bardcall, The Bard's Song (Blind Guardian cover) aaand for a personal favorite ballad of theirs Last Night Of The Kings.
