I would love to see you react to Amon Amarth that they cover here. Johan Hegg has some very clear harsh vocals and the music is amazing. By far my favourite band there is.
"Last Night of the Kings" by them is awesome too! Basically if a DnD campaign turned into an acapella song :D Also "If I Die in Batttle" for the accapella guitar solo! This was such a fun music video. From the beginning I definitely thought to myself how you're gonna just nerd out to and enjoy all the fun syllables and sounds. Good stuff. :D
Loved the reaction! And your drinking horn is great! Recommendation for some older Van Canto Originals, with their original lead singer Sly: Take to the sky, lost forever, seller of soul, Bard's Call. For a song with Inga truly on lead: Water Fire Heaven Earth Hagen is best on their new album, Dead By The Night is my favorite. Their lower rakka-takka singer and songwriter (Stefan Schmidt) has another side project called Heavatar. It is also metal, he provides lead vocals and all songs are based/inspired by classical pieces, e.g. "Replica" (Toccata & Fugue in D-Minor by Bach) or "Luna Luna" (Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven) The drummer has another band called In Legend, where he sings lead vocals and plays the piano. They make "Piano Metal", so instead of guitars they use a piano. Good songs to check out are "Pandemonium" or "Vortex"

Thank you for reacting to (and analyzing) another song by Van Canto! I was hoping you'd do so and you didn't disappoint. 😍 Maybe you'll listen to some more, maybe one of their original songs? 😊
Their new album To the Power of Eight was released last Friday. Its been on repeat on my playlist. If you do any further Van Canto reactions could I suggest One to Ten or Take to the Sky. Both are awesome
Alright, if we're talking viking metal, I have to recommend Einherjer; maybe Alu Alu Laukar, Wolf Age, or Out of Ginnungagap. Anyone have any other Einherjer recommendations?
Van Canto is always a blast. I'd love to see a reaction to their song Last Night of the Kings, my favorite song from them. It's less metal, more a cappella folk, but it's such an amazing song.
I love seeing you do more VanCanto, but again with a cover? They have so much really good songs! I recommend "The Mission" or the new "Falling Down" ;)
Funny you mentioned high and low guitar sounds, in my mind that's to actually fully reproduce a distorted power chord sound. The voices have to be one perfect fifth (or fourth if it's inverted) apart, add the harshness on the top of it. Plus by how they choose they syllabes they also reproduce all the guitar picking techniques. It's really cool.!
I never was a fan of this guttural growl type metal, but I can appreciate this. To manipulate your voice like this and not totally destroy it is pretty impressive.
Hell yeah! We are inching closer to an Amon Amarth reaction! Can't wait for Elizabeth to react to Johan Hegg's deep growls and the overall brutality of their music!
Sweet!! I've been eagerly waiting for you to revisit Van Canto, and I actually thought of this song during your "My Mother Told Me" reaction. I think it is the only other song that qualifies as viking a capella (Vahalla Capella? Whatever you call it, I hope it becomes a thing.) Voiceplay's song was very fluid and lavish, but this feels much more percussive and barbaric. Hey, lets sail these vocal waters on dragonship once more! Also the band Wintersun now features both the drummer and the new bassist for Nightwish, so now would be a perfect time for that "Sons of Winter and Stars" reaction. Thank you so much, this week is going to be EPIC! 🐉 🐉 🦑 🤘
It's a great pity that you've already listened to two songs by them and both almost without Inga singing ((( Thank you for your channel, it's great to see someone's reaction to songs you've been listening to for a long time!
I think Inga has a great voice. What songs would you recommend Elizabeth check out that showcase Inga? I think their covers of "Wishmaster" and "Into the West" are awesome, as is their latest song "Faith Focus, Finish." Her work in A Storm to Come is gorgeous.
@@oglschmitt All their covers are beautiful, but the latest work is great and more interesting because it's new. And from the old ones, "Speed of light" is a great song and video
Happy you finaly found Van Canto. They are amazing, plenty of great songs. You really should check out their version of Fear of the Dark and Night of the Kings. Completely different if you want to check out a not so known singer search for Lara Loft. She is a german synchro speaker but also sings really amazing.
I love Van Canto, as an amateur singer that loves Metal/Rock... I highly recommend Van Canto's "Lost Forever" and "The Bard's Song - In the Forest" to show some of the multitude of talents and techniques. They're so good!
Van Canto had 8 musicians for the album this song is from; the album is called "To the "Power of Eight." They normally have 7 members, but this album featured guest vocals from the original male lead singer, thus bumping the number up to 8. In fact, most of the songs in this album features 3 lead vocalists, kinda like the band Amaranthe. Hagen, the male lead for this song also does clean vocals in other songs, and sometimes even uses both. I recommend also checking out their cover of "Run to the Hills." Since you recently listened to that song, I think soon is a good time to check out Van Canto's cover. Inga, the female lead, sings the lead vocals and the singers on the guitar parts sing at a fast tempo with incredible precision! I think you'd really enjoy this. I do hope to see more Van Canto reactions. I also hope to see an upload for Wintersun's "Sons of Winter and Stars." 🙂
I don't think I commented on any of your posts yet. Really like your Heilung reactions. I have always been a metal head. As much as I don't want your channel to become a metal reaction channel, Amon Amarth has been apart of my life for years and is spiritual, tough, and sometimes beautiful. A good song I would recommend from them would be the Pursuit of Vikings music video to start with. Really captures the energy and stirs up the old blood.
I've been lucky enough to sing with Van Canto, and was recorded as part of one of the choirs on an album. A hugely fun experience! The syllables are carefully chosen to give the flow they want. Contrary to what you might think, they aren't tongue twisters but roll out easily. So, something like "rum-a-da-dum-a-nah-do-doo" is easier to sing, and sounds better than trying to go "rum-ah-ah" or "rum-a-rum-a-rum-a". Other times, such as at 2:20, you can hear "mo mo mo mo mo mo" which is to simulate a chugging palm mute, but if you try singing it you'll find that you can do long runs of it without tripping up on the words.
After doing a quick search of your videos. I noticed one metal band that wasn't there, and given your background in opera I am surprised you haven't looked at their content yet. So I will recommend a song by the band Powerwolf, specifically their song "Fire and Forgive" (because sadly it is one of the few with music videos), the lead singer is a classically trained opera singer from Bucharest. His voice SHOWS IT, he has power. A lot of their lyrics are in Latin which is always awesome to hear in songs. They are neither Christian or Satanist, they just use both as a theme and to quote the lead singer when he was asked that, "I am a metalist, a metal fan. Metal is my religion. Look at all these people, what unites them? I can tell you, it's the fucking metal." They really go all out to really fit the theme they have chosen, which is literally Werewolves, vampires and religious themes. They wear priest get-ups with corpse paint for crying out loud.
Great Choice! If you really want to nerd out you should also make a reaction video to their song "Magic Taborea". This song combines the wonderful music of Van Canto and the Fantasy Online Game Runes of Magic. This is also the song that led me to the band and their music when I first met them at the Roleplay Convention where they were supporting the game with a show there.
Fun Fact: Inga Scharf (female Lead Vocalist) is a Teacher (under a slightly different name ^^) for biology and german studies and I had the pleasure to have this funny person as my very competent teacher for two years. Great vocalist, teacher and person :)
Hey there. I've been really enjoying your analyses of Heilung's music. I was hoping you'd consider reviewing a song by then called Traust. About 30 seconds in there is this gutteral "wewewewewewe" sound the male vocalist makes that sounds like a cross between Mongolian throat singing and a virtual rasp and I have no idea how he does it but it is haunting and beautiful. I think you'd legitimately get a thrill out of listening to it given how strongly you react to unusual vocalizations!
Would love to see you react and analyze ABBA. For some reason there are very few (if any) vocal coaches to do that but those voices is up there with the best of them IMO.
I think that you would find System of a Down vocally interesting. Try "Prison Song","Aerials","B.Y.O.B","Sugar" or "Holy Mountain". (Especially the live in Yerevan version, very powerful)
I'm glad you've looked at Van Canto. Their stuff is fantastic for the most part and given that they're a mostly acapella band it seems fitting XD I'd love to see you react to some of their original songs, ones which featured Philip Schunke before he left. He was the lead male vocalist up til their Voices of Fire album. I'd really recommend Time and Time Again, or Firevows, actually. :)
Since we're on the topic of metal, I've just discovered a garage band that does Led Zeppelin covers, and they are great. The woman who sings the Robert Plant parts sound A LOT like him. Catch them on RUclips, their name is "Tangerine". Their cover of "Black Dog" really features the singer.

You did it again. Introduced me to an for me unknown band. And a great one, too. Thats why i love your channel.....
I like "If I Die In Battle" and "Speed of Light". Their old singer was awesome. Really can't get into the new guy, no matter how hard I try.
Me neither but luckily Sly is in this album
The amount of effort and energy that goes into producing their music is absolutely awesome.
Great reaction as always, thanks for bringing this to us.
I’m sure you already know that the metal community is very loyal! So every single metal video you do, more “likes and views” you’ll have 😉🤘🏻by the way, Am I the first!? 😬☺️
Gratz to first! : )
SO NICE FOR A KNOWLEDGABLE PERSON TO REVIEW MUSIC. THANK YOU
Van Canto is always a blast. I'd love to see a reaction to their song Last Night of the Kings, my favorite song from them. It's less metal, more a cappella folk, but it's such an amazing song.
So many good songs from van canto and you chose this...
Very happy to see a video of Van Canto again here ^^
That was great i just bought their last 2 albums :)
I would love to see a reaction to 'Beast in black - Blind and Frozen' sometime soon!
I never was a fan of this guttural growl type metal, but I can appreciate this. To manipulate your voice like this and not totally destroy it is pretty impressive.
I didn't like the growls at first, but quickly grew to love the sound. Still dont really like screams though.
YES ANOTHER VAN CANTO REACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I personally think Lost Forever would be great to review.
Van Canto is fun, aren't they? like many other commenters, I would love to hear your take on Amon Amarth, metal on a Viking theme.
Hell yeah! We are inching closer to an Amon Amarth reaction! Can't wait for Elizabeth to react to Johan Hegg's deep growls and the overall brutality of their music!
i saw them live many years ago...they are awesome live!
It was awesome. I have found a new favorite band.
schweeeet, they sure know how to "sing a metal song" :)
I see what you did there...
Interesting band. Thanks for bringing them to my attention.
You have to react to Rhapsody- Emerald Sword live! Fabio Lione is an incredible singer
I just can't get "doo doo" and "wheaties" out of my head. ;-)
Charismatic is what you surely are !
smart, articulate and beautiful too
Well that was awesome!
BAM!!! reminder set. 😁
It's a great pity that you've already listened to two songs by them and both almost without Inga singing (((
Thank you for your channel, it's great to see someone's reaction to songs you've been listening to for a long time!
You should listen Van Canto "Battery" - just for yourself. It is hillarious.
I saw them first in 08 and been a fan since. The newer stuff I have not gotten into yet, but the first 4 Albums were fire.
Would love to see more Sabaton reactions, especially night witches and panzerkampf. Love your channel.
Stoked to hear your reaction to the original
I've heard of Amon Amarth but never really listened to it... Now I want to check them out 👍
Amon Amarth -Ironside , One thousand burning arrows, Back on northern shores . All demonstrate great vocal range and musical talents
Is it a sign of addiction that I hit the like button before the video even starts? 🤔
Gotta be honest, if I had to choose between this version and the original by Amon Amarth, I'm picking Amon Amarth 10/10 times.
I love Van Canto a lot, but yeah. I agree :D Growls are fucking weak here :/
Yeah this is straight trash.
The vocals are so low as to be unintelligible. And I'm a big Amon Amarth fan...so....
Elizabeth is a fellow D&D nerd! One of us, one of us!
Definitely do some Amon Amarth! One of my favorite bands, always fun
Elizabeth is an amazing singer and a great RUclipsr, a great girl💯👍
Patiently awaiting your take on Spencer Sotelo from Periphery :)
if you want more van canto i highly recommend "how to sing a metal song"
Both their cover and the original of rebellion are so mindblowing
Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor
Nevermore gets my vote as well.
Amon Amarth really are great! Hope they get featured here soon
The extra male vocal harmonizing with Inga is Sly (the former Male Lead Vocals of the group and guest vocalist for the entire current album)
I love this Song.
