Thanks for such informative video. I greatly appreciate this. From South Africa with to s of love.. Please share a video on how you preserve and store your harvest for an extended period. Thankd
This was wonderful…as usual. I am struggling with dappled light. Have a HUGE Sycamore tree on one side of the yard and the pool and decks on the other. Struggling as to where to add some gardening space. And then, we have two squirrels that have taken up residence, are constantly all over the yard, and I fear they will just eat everything I grow down there. 🤦♀️ I guess there will always be something. I like your idea of “plan to fail”. This might be one of those years. Thank you!
I have a question about having cherry trees and goats. Do you ever worry that any leaves will blow in where the goats can eat them? Wilted cherry leaves are so poisonous to livestock and i have not planted any for fear that they would eat some. Are some not poisonous?
Just found your channel and oh wow love all the great content. Could you, if you haven't already, give some tips on storage of root vegetables and your root cellar please and thank you😊
Just found your channel and like it! You wrote that your growing conditions ar tough.... so have we! 🤭 You deal with hot and we with cold. Only about 3 months summer and snow on the ground 7 months, but we deal with it and have 24h sun in the summer. All the best to you 😊👍
Love your videos and the information you provide. I am at the beginning of my gardening journey. I live in hot south Florida so it’s going to be a challenge I think but you have me a lot to think about. Right now I have lettuce and collards ready to harvest and have started various seeds. We shall see 😊
Great video ! I would just say the quantity depends on how much of something you eat. For example, I probably use at least 400-500 onions a year. So you want to think like that. But, also think about the onions you can harvest fresh, so that might cut stored onions needed from 500 down to say 250-300. Just some veggies for thought 😉
Same here. Her numbers were definitely off for my family. I need a minimum of 300 onions, 200 garlic, 100 tomatoes... we are a family of 6. I planted 500 onions and garlic this year. And will plant 135 tomatoes this year. We definitely plant more potatoes too. BUT, I garden to get through the year. Not to eat fresh all summer and preserve SOME foods. I preserve most foods. Her guidelines are definitely a great start for someone who isn’t seasoned at growing a lot of food and they can gauge how they can add on the next year to up what they like and remove what they don’t. Also small space.... these are good numbers to actually get a harvest. A first time gardener could manage her recommendations without much overwhelm.
Agreed! Everyone’s need are different 😉I plant a couple thousand garlic. But, I use them for a braiding class and we eat so much more garlic than most. 🧄 😁
Very informative! I’m so excited for a new gardening season! 😊 I saw your coop and goat barn in recent videos and am wondering if you’d be willing to share more details about those projects. You used pallets, right? We have four kids on one income but I’d really like to get some chickens and possibly dairy goats in the near future. Also have to get some fencing around a large orchard/berry patch I’m trying to establish and need cost-effective solutions for that. Any ideas?
I plan on doing more in-depth videos on the chickens and goats. Lots of questions on these subjects. The chicken coop was all pallets. I pulled them apart for days! We raised our kids with the farm animals and I am so grateful we did! Well worth it. I hope I will cover your questions about the barnyard buildings. I’ll take any suggestions 😁. Thank you!
Thanks for this video! So informative 😄 I'm in the process of narrowing down my list and it's so hard, but I can't fit them all even though I want to... Did you plant the chamomile in between your cabbage on purpose or did they just pop up there? It looks pretty ☺️
I do move my potato crops around. However, I seem to always leave some behind and they sprout up in the same places and do great there. If I ever had an issue I would try to get out every potato and not plant in that spot for three years.
Thanks!
🥰
Very informative. You should write a book.
Great video especially your recommended plants per people.
Succesion planting is what I have to consider more. Thank you for reminding me to make a plan.
Just found you recently and love, love your videos. God bless you and thank you.

We have a squirrel and raccoons this year. We’ve never had them before. 🤨 yes! Always something. But forward we move!!!!!

Yes I can and will! I have a fall storage video planned for storing root vegetables later in August or September. 😊

Thank you! 😊 good luck this year! Our summers are very hot as well. We don’t have the humidity though.

Ali will you do a video on where to plant your perennials ??? I'm doubling my garden and need to figure that part out!!!
Good idea! I’ll put that on my list! Thanks 😊

THIS is great information....how do you store all of this???
I do a lot of preserving. Bottling, freeze drying and freezing. Most goes in a cellar.

Chamomile is a “weed” in my garden. I Love it! Just pops up everywhere.
@@Alisorganics I can't seem to grow chamomile here in Virginia. I think we get too much rain maybe... I'm jealous!😃
You said you only rotate tomatoes due to susceptibility. What about nightshade potatoes? Do you rotate those at all? Thank you!

Thank you so much for this!
What garden book are you using at 4:07?
That’s a garden journal from Lee Valley Tools. It’s a 10 year journal. I’ve almost finished my 3rd book, 30 years. Boy time goes fast!
@@Alisorganicsthank you thank you!!!
What variety of Garlic do you recommend for STG?
Any softneck variety will be good, but I really love turban varieties of garlic for our climate.
@@Alisorganics Awesome, thanks! I am going to get ahold of some for this year to grow out.
Thanks!
