I'm rocking an 11 year old Canon 700D with modded magic lantern firmware which finally makes it stable for pro shoots. It cost me 250€ for the camera, battery and a 128gb sandisk extreme pro card.
Now I can shoot videos with half the resolution but double that of full HD at 14bit linear raw. It has false color, waveform, histogram and all the handy video features. Only problem being you don't have a direct feed to the raw image, instead it's an inaccurate jpeg review of the raw data. Thankfully the waveform, false color and histogram have access to the raw signal.
This camera fully rigged out with a monitor, v mount nice lens, mattebox, basically everything you need it to make it pro cost me 1000€ so basically for the price of a used blackmagic i've got a fully kitted out raw recording monster
I've got a playlist up of my pro jobs with the camera if you wanna see what it can do

Oh man, I remember putting the Magic Lantern firmware on my old T2i. Those were the good old days :)

@@adamsipione there's been a MASSIVE improvement since then. Look into Magic lantern Crop Mood. It's genuinely good

Fully understand I am presently in the same mental limbo. I would like to upgrade but at what cost ? , so what is a budget balance for a film maker ? I am thinking of purchasing the latest but yet I see people do wonders with the older cameras!? It’s really a comfort zone creatively and financially you have to find . But thank you for speaking my thoughts 😂

It's a tricky thing for sure, and it all depends on the kind of content you want to make and knowing whether or not an upgrade will actually have a meaningful impact. Back in the day I would get caught up in the idea of using a new camera to shoot a cool project, but when I actually got the camera I would make excuses why I couldn't do it. It's like wanting to run a six figure business without wanting to put in any real work 😅 My best advice is to form a habit of shooting stuff and only upgrade if the thing you purchase makes doing it easier and more efficient.

@@adamsipione correct I am at the point where it’s either the lens or the body , there is so much talk about 4K-8k yet I see 1080p films that look immaculate, I live in Canada and gear is expensive here even second hand gear , I do music videos but I want to create actual film concepts with my music videos do I need the latest ? Or do I need a step up from what I already have you know ?

@@Len-Dor1983 I suppose there is some truth to what people say about 'marry the lens and date the camera'. If you are loyal to a camera brand then buying lenses for that mount is a good way to future proof yourself for the eventual camera upgrade down the road. Lighting also plays a huge role and it took me longer than I would have liked to realize that.

@@adamsipione yes it took me three years to finally understand the basics of lighting. If you really analyze the adaptations of cameras and the brands they all push you to buy the bodies. It’s almost as if the deliberately hold back specs to keep you buying. I have been thinking of going from Sony to Fuji to canon to black magic and the expense is tremendous. The Emount is the most budget friendly feature of all brands but black magic is a monster what do you do ? It’s nuts .

      Not all fhd is alike
All of sonys fhd ( except 12mp ones ) lineskips and sucks
Most fujis oversample ( thus overheating quite quick )
Almost all M43 panny does good fhd ( leaders are the GH's and G9's ) - note that the top end cams offer. Wayyy higher bitrate
On a related note, a fuji xt3 would offer the best optionv for a run and gun setup ( 4k60, log, apsc, usable af, touchscreen, good fhd 120, mic/head jack and X Mount is being opened - 17-70. 2.8 anyone ? )

I don’t need good autofocus because all of the lenses I love are manual focus only. If somebody makes a good LiDAR system that works with geared cinema lenses I am all ears.
