The problem with getting into this hobby is you get much more critical of store bought coffee. Starbucks is un drinkable to me now.
Starbucks is a candy shop disguised as a coffee shop. Same with Dunkin Donuts, etc. And yeah, I’ve become more critical of everything! LOL coffee, tea, chocolate, even plain water! 😂 you have to be skeptical of quality and ingredients with everything nowadays!
100%.. I look at starbucks coffee now like getting a juice or soda, not coffee.

It’s sad what’s been normalized at the commercial level in this industry. But I guess it just follows the same path as any other food and beverage industry sector. Thank you to you and others for keeping the craft alive!
i ordered a pourover in a coffee shop in Brooklyn and got served a batch brew. it tasted like weak diner coffee.
I went to the % arabica in DUMBO when it opened and got an automated pour over (can't remember than the origin), it was worse than my stale office coffee.
Hey Brian, I really love your channel and deeply appreciate the work you put into your videos. In all kindness, I did not enjoy this one. To me, this video promotes a degree of coffee snobbery which I find turns off most non-coffee folks from approaching the drink we love so much. I'm not against critiquing coffee, but I think there's a way to go about this kind of video by highlighting the good at these establishments while communicating where they could approve.
He did say the ambiance was good. But really nothing else to say about %

I came to the comments to find someone else who was cringing over the pretentiousness. If I was there with them I'm sure the coffee would've been just as unenjoyable to me, but the scoffing is just annoying.
I'm deep down the coffee rabbit hole too, but come on.. Some places' espresso machines are clearly meant for milk drinks only.
Thank you for this comment really, because I also like Brian’s videos and insights. I get that coffee as a hobby, eventually comes with a certain level of snobbery/fussyness. However, something about this video just rubbed me the wrong way because, sure not everyone is going to prefer the light roast brain likes or dark roast which many places serve but, this video was obnoxious. Seeing them shit on for, what some people may find really good coffee. I find it abit hypocritical of Brian to want to expand people’s perceptions of coffee and welcome people into the hobby, it then do this.
I totally agree. I usually love Brian’s videos because they’re such a unique source of knowledge in a niche area (like, how to pull a turbo bloom shot on an LP, so cool). And they bring up other beans and places to try that I haven’t before. This video on the other hand was just mean-spirited.
Fun fact, eversys pushed out a sw update and bricked a few machines for a day a few weeks ago.

There are Arabicas everywhere in Bangkok and it's absolutely the worse. The only redeeming quality is that they are often located in highfloors of buildings but you're better off going to Starbucks which give similar views with a better value for coffee.

I agree with with calling out trash coffee especially when asking for your money. Although personally I wouldn't accept Star Bucks.
