For a little bit of behind-the-scenes knowledge: the actors had not seen the ship before they all went down the waterslide and landed next to it. The cinematographers were able to capture on film the actors' looks on their faces and their real reactions to seeing the ship for the very first time. Priceless. :)

Actual goonie here! So happy you’re watching this classic! The “goonies house” and the “jail” (it’s a mini museum) are still around. Tho there is this funny fight between the goonies house and one of the neighbors.
@@DW.Strangeman Astoria, Oregon. The goon docks is kinda a local saying, not an official place on a map. But the town is the one you see in the movie… just a bunch of homes and shops on a hill that empties into the ocean. It’s so small that if you look in the background during shots of the town in goonies, you can see the production RV parked in the street. Town was too small to hide it.
@@thefreedommovement so I got the saying right?! That town looks a little bit where I live. Same characteristics. The Goonies is, like most 80s kids, iconic to me. Maybe one day I'll come and see for myself, always wanted to visit Oregon. Until then though still gonna tell everyone that I spoke to a real "Goonie", if that's okay with you?😁 No-one in the UK believes me when I tell them it's a real place!🤷
Great reaction ladies! Such an awesome movie. I was 17 when it came out, but I loved it for being like the daydreams I'd imagine when I was a kid who, like Ellie, loved pirates and wanted to be one. 😀 It is still one of my favorite movies and I watch it often. 🙂So much fun and adventure in this movie! The sad story I know about this movie: The ship was built full size for the movie. Once the movie was finished they tried to find someone to take it, even for free, but no one could or would. So the ship was destroyed. 😞 I wish it hadn't been!
Ellie All these young actors became well known in later years. Brand played by Josh Brolin went onto playing Thanos in Marvel movies. Mikey played by Sean Astin went onto Lord of the Rings. Mouth played Corey Feldman went to other movies. Chunk played by Jeff Cohen, who is now an entertainment attorney working in the industry representing actors such as his close friend, Ke Huy Quan aka Short Round and in this movie, Data recently won an Oscar for his latest movie. Kerri Green aka Andy left acting. Martha Plimpton aka Stef went onto mostly theater acting mostly.
I also add to the list Joe Pantoliano (Francis Fratelli here) who played many roles like Cypher, the traitor in Matrix, and the Captain Howard in Bad Boys movies.
Martha Plimpton was in a couple dozen movies! Two of my favorites are “Parenthood” and “200 Cigarettes.” I’ve always loved her! I think she’s done mostly TV in the past 15 years or so.
Funny you should mention he looked like Indiana Jones at the beginning of the movie. He stole that hat from the Indiana Jones set, Goonies was produced by Stephen Spieberg who directed Indiana Jones, and Data was Short Round from Temple of Doom
ROFL!!! Loved how Chunk get put next to the dead body not once...but twice. When I was a kid, I must have rewound that scene of him yelling in the car until my sides hurt from laughing.
I wouldn't call this movie ridiculous- anymore than many are today. This is a classic that went on to inspire multiple tv shows and movies, not to mention pop culture in general. And if you like stranger things, then thank this 'ridiculous ' movie for inspiring it
I remember this movie so fondly. It was a big part of my childhood, and it's great to see you two enjoying it so much. You had a lot of questions about the pirate ship, which aren't answered in the movie. But after the film came out, there was a novelization of the story, which tells much more of what happened after the Goonies' adventure. I've never read it, but TV Tropes gives a synopsis, and it's a really happy ending! As you mentioned, no one was piloting that ship, so naturally it was dangerous to leave it drifting at sea. Eventually, the U.S. Coast Guard tracked it down and dragged it to shore. At that point, it became the property of the first person who brought anything from it to dry land, according to salvage laws. Which means the pirate ship, and everything on it, belonged to Mikey Walsh!! Mikey and his friends were able to save their homes simply with the gems in his marble bag (TV Tropes estimates the minimum value of just one of those jewels at $50,000). However, with all the wealth on board Willy's ship, their families were able to do so much more. Long story short: They worked together to turn Astoria into the best small town in all of America. And according to the novel: Yes, Chunk's family really did adopt Sloth, and gave him the loving home he always should have had.
10/10 Fun fun fun, but first you have to do the truffle shuffle! Treasure hunts. Who doesn't remember digging under the porch, in creekbeds, hollowed out logs, etc to find the buried treasure you just KNOW is hidden there somewhere? The Goonies is a fun-filled ride right back into our youth where treasure hunts are no longer a thing of the past. I absolutely loved this movie. It was just so much fun to watch when I was a kid and just as much fun when I watched it again as an adult with my own kids. Of course the movie has moments of predictability, and no, the villains aren't all that intimidating...they're actually quite moronic. But that only adds to the charm of this movie as well as its comedic value. Although there are lessons peppered in (don't judge by appearances, right vs. wrong, etc), overall, The Goonies is a wonderful exploration of childhood friendships and imaginations...from Data and his many scientific creations to One Eyed Willy and his pirate ship. There isn't a character in this movie I didn't fully enjoy watching...you have the dim-witted, evil Fratelli's, heavy-set, melodramatic Chunk, Data with his "booty traps...that's what I said, booby traps" galore, the odd-looking but loveable Sloth, and Mouth with his, well, Mouth. Those are only a few...there are many more. A lot of great lines come from this movie along with memorable moments (the Truffle Shuffle). I've seen The Goonies about a hundred times and I STILL enjoy watching it over and over again. This is absolutely a pure, fun-filled movie to enjoy with your kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews, or simply by yourself. Hang on and enjoy the ride! The Goonies earns a solid 5 out of 5 stars!

You never see a kid's movie now with dead bodies in it, both fresh and skeletal. The 1980s were a magical time when nobody really understood or cared what was appropriate for children. Kid stuff, horror stuff and violent stuff was all mixed together into weird, incredibly fun movies. It was almost like movie categories hadn't been invented yet. All the pirate stuff happened on the East coast, though, and this was clearly the coast of Oregon. Their beaches look very unique.
