Mr Mangini killin that "tiny" kit. I gotta say, love this drum setup. Simple. Focused. Powerful. You hear everything he plays. Hope they keep this for their tours. Please visit us in Manila, Philippines again, DT!
Minute 5:17, my favorite passage from the entire album - which is brilliant. Monster bass tone, with that chorus and growl, great ambience, awesome groove, and dreamy guitars. In the studio version, the interaction between the keys/piano and the guitar is awesome, and when the distorted palmute starts, it's got this shifting panning that is simply awesome.
Seen so many good drummers live and you expect a massive kit from Mangini, best drummer I’ve ever seen live by a mile knows how to use what he’s got. He’s a magician
I think he read enough idiot armchair pro drummer complaints over the years since replacing Portnoy (and I LOVEE Portnoy's drumming) and Mangini was like "you haven't even seen nothing yet"
This epic sounds so good live! Ahh I really want to see them! Thank you for sharing. I bought the album not realizing that it was going to be one of my new favorite albums of theirs. Such an amazing DT album.
People need to lay off James. It's not his fault that his voice is in this condition and he is making the best of it. I thought this was a fantastic performance of an absolute masterpiece that I didn't realize DT were still capable of. I love this song and this album.
Would you lay off Petrucci or Rudess if every fourth note was off? I realize that voice is a particularly difficult instument to maintain, but no matter how much I love James as DT frontman, I can hardly listen to him live anymore - not even in official releasese like Distant Memories-Live or the 25th Anniversary Images show. I had to stop watching both concerts because I simply could not take it anymore. And those were official realeases AFTER they cleaned many of the major mistakes up. Once again, I don't mean to bash or offend, least of al all our favourite Pirate, but for the first time in 15 years I am seriously contemplating not watching them live once they eventually are allowed to tour back here in Germany. I think its fair to criticize, and criticism is at times hard to take, but I believe here it is warranted and justified. :-(
People who keep defending James need to understand that an explanation why a singer sounds awful isn't a reason why the listener should put up with that. If you can't do the job, switch careers or retire.
Singers of all genres and styles usually sing live slightly different from the recorded versions. Freddie Mercury did it all the time. People attack LaBrie for nothing.
@@kahfisadega6239 haha mangini bisa jadi pemeran Wiro Sableng, juga bisa jadi antagonis Wiro Sableng. Ndas2sane cocok banget kalo pake bandana gituan di kepalanya. don't think this is the singer's favorite song. It may just be me, but somehow I think James Labrie's vocals still sound a bit insecure. Soon after they have had the first 30 shows it will be gone. Still I am excited and happy that they have made a new album and that they are touring again!!! Whopppa..... DT all the way :)!!!
I don’t think is a problem with Labrie’s voice. He sounds very close to the original, but you can’t barely hear it. I think they need to focus on that, raise his microphone volume more or something else they can figure out. But I he sounds better than a few years ago.
@@meshuggahman3225 yes. I was thinking in a same way but I understand after listening A Change of Seasons live in 2017, why people like that :D It's kinda classical music concert
There isn't that much of a difference. Having two bass drums looks way cooler and plays ever so slightly better, but carrying them and setting them up also takes more work. Sometimes it's not worth it. Even Portnoy has played with a double pedal on occasion.

Fantastic song, brilliant chorus, but unfortunately LaBries vocals are degrading badly. He simply does not match a single note correctly. Painful, compared to the incredible bandwork.
Very great performance! I enjoy it so much, the band sounds great. But bad vocals by JLB again... Always out of tune and sometimes out of sync with the rest of the band... Despite how crazy it sounds, i think he'd be better off using live pitch correctors now...
@@br767 rly? I thought he didn't lip sync, there are certainly some pre-recorded vocal parts in the background that petrucci lip-syncs to, but this.. 🤯
Hey, he's got the flu that night... stop being such obnoxious people, and there were are coming back after a two-year layoff, god. They will start to improve little by little, sometimes those things happen. And give James time and understand that a singer can't be great every night.
@@sigmatickeys Well, if that's just flu and he's getting better it's really nice. But hey, they had a 2 year break, means James had A LOT of time to rest and practice, his voice is not strained from constant touring and this is supposed to be the best condition he's in during the whole tour. We're not trying to insult James here, just all of these factors are very concerning.
Love the song, the album, LaBrie has been way worse, drums finally sound like drums, but these playbacks are unbearable to me and take me out of it every single time, like bad CGI in a movie. Also, the click is too obvious, nothing fluctuates like it should. Compare JP's solo in the middle The Count of Tuscany's in early live shows and now. He saves it because he's awesome, but you can feel the pulse is so rigid where it shouldn't be. Orchestras don't play to a click, neither should these guys. These two things are the reason I don't go see them anymore, they kill the organic nature and the live feel they need with such music, to make sure not everything is square and pure math.
The click was a very bad decision. I was shocked at how lifeless the performance was when i saw them on the dtoe tour. since then I never even considered seeing them live again.
click too obvious?... doesnt make sense.. why use click if you dont click to it?.. and what does "fluctuates like it shoud" mean?.. orchestras dont play to a click?.. whats the conductor for then?..
@@meshuggahman3225 the point is the click is rigid, a conductor is NOT rigid at all. There has to be room to breathe. A term classical musicians use for this is “rubato”, honestly it transcends just classical music though.
