That's a super idea, when the copper drain pipe on my bath tub sprung a leak I used a piece of that rubber gasket material and two worm drive clamps,I put a glob of teflon pipe selant on the piece of rubber gasket material before I clamped it on with two two inch worm drive clamps, your idea of using the steel sleeve from a no-hub clamp is better. The leak was right before the tub drain trap on the underside of the copper pipe and it was tight as heck to get in there because the copper drain pipe on the tub ran about two inches parallel to the floor joist .It lasted up until I replaced the tub drain a few months ago. It's like my mentor the locksmith who taught me locksmithing and helped me get my locksmith license always used to tell me,with mechanical things and such you sometimes have to be like a doctor and improvise to make things work.Great video. What a flood we had in the basement from just a five minute shower with that quarter inch hole in the tub drain pipe.

Hey CB. I've found that there's very little blue RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) cannot fix. In my trade, it can be used in the absence of a gasket by applying a bead and making the fasteners hand tight, and waiting 30 minutes before torque is applied. This prevents initial squeeze out and metal to metal contact, so that the newly vulcanized silicone rubber can form a custom molded gasket. The key is to maintain a rough 1/8" gap between mating parts while it sets up for 30 minutes, then tighten. This formed gasket can resist temps up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. We use it in cooling systems where it's always 220 degrees at 15 psi. A coating of this under your rubber sheet would work wonders on any lead bend. It could also be used on those gerber style tub drain assemblies where there's a gasket at the overflow/drain switch, if the tub angle isn't mating right. The above mentioned procedure works wonders, even if you're just loosening screws and feeding it in there with your fingers. 😂

I was going to recommend the rainbow packing with the know hub clamp and the roofing cement.I thought you might would take another route.
I have use that stuff multiple times on cast iron and lead, for people that don’t have any money. There’s also this special padding roofers use heat it up nice with a torch, you have to be careful when it gets hot. Then you slap it on the pipe like the flexseal patches when it’s hot works good and put clamps on to hold it.

To anybody reading this, as long as the head leak is not involving combustion pressures in the water jacket, stop leak works. BUT... check the oil frequently for clouding. If clouding is ever observed, stop driving. Either reseal and change the oil, or do the head gasket immediately. The engine WILL seize, and you'll need a new car. - Paul, Pro auto tech.

i don't know personally if i would've touched this job with that massive concrete tumour there. if that would've came loose and landed on your head she'd be game over. i would've pulled the old safety card on this one. i bet you that concrete mess is partially working like a riser clamp on the floor in a way as well for the stack. needless to say the next guy whose gotta change that all out is gonna have a fun time

A real plumber would have taken out the old lead and replaced it with correct piping, that quick job will be leaking again in a month.

i just saw your looking for a plumber but im sorry i woudnt work for you
first of all you have to fix were that leak is coming from
then you have to try to clean the lead and try to repair the lead by sweating a piece of lead on it
or the same technic as yours but using the MJs rubber not a showr pan rubber
and leave the cut on the top part of the lead pipe

    • @ChuckBarron
      @ChuckBarron  4 года назад +1

Mike Mike, come on..you and I both know we would kill the game. Your expertise in lead repair sounds great but we both know a bath renovation is needed. I personally like to see how you would do that lead repair laying on your back like i was. Demo team and Medic on stand bye.

There’s always a way to fix it the rest is just excuses
And if it false the pipe or the house will break before it can hurt me

I am just not into this. I've walked away from some of these jobs, but I never did this shit. Part of being a licensed plumber is holding systems to a standard. I know you're just trying to buy time, but you have created a future mess and potential health hazard. Sometimes we, as plumbers have to push people to do the right thing, or just walk away. Let some handyman bullshit things together. We are licensed for a reason. Just one mans opinion, we all have to put food on the table.

again....I here ya and Im totally into what your saying Im not into patch and go either. kind of obvious after all my questions to my fellow plumbers on what epoxy to use. I would of taken floor up, removed furl and installed a 4x3 abs furl into cast tee and repiped and a new drain to vanity. The tub already done from years ago.. ...I did this for a family member. one bath a big issue too. not to mention my schedule at the present time. I was happy buy us both time. appreciate you point Joel. Plumb on . what state you out of?

While everyone pretty much knows when you see a 1960's bathroom that after 50 years, its time to change some stuff. But not everyone wants to, or has the money to do it. You'll make more money with repeat customers getting corn and potatoes stuck in their drain, rather than forcing them to replace the whole bathroom.

throttle bottle I am a union plumber spot on sometimes what people don’t realize is we don’t get to just go in and do what we want customers have to pay so you get a guy like the one above holier than though but it’s not always the way it works
