How to actually use Dromarch: 1. Open the menu 2. Go to "Characters" > Nia/Rex (whoever is he asigned to) 3. Equip any other rare blade available. Some common blades work too. This can only be done in NG+. You can still make it work in a normal run, but it requires some extra steps and you have to beat Chapter 8 first.
I see you did the strongest rare twin rings blade in existence. He's invaluable for fighting groups of drivers. Taking less damage from blade combos is no joke. Not even I can take myself seriously.

The fastest Blade is Jin. He's Mythra on speed. Second fastest Blade is Kora. Her rants alone would get her at least 4th place... her Specials are also quick af. 3rd fastest is Elma. She can run circles around Tyrannotitan and still finish a Blade Combo. Then Dromarch.
Looking at Dromarch's Affinity Chart in comparison to other Blades, it makes me wonder if he was one of the first ones they made a chart for, then forgot to go back a rebalance him in proportion to other Blades. Or he was made to be a Tank role originally, possibly even for Morag, since she has an unused voice clip calling Dromarch I still have a big ol' soft spot for him, tho

@@HybridAngelZero Yeah. Not counting the mountain of Twin Ring clones in the DLC and NG+, Dromarch's the only rare Twin Rings. Honestly, I wish Nia had an option to transform into Blade form while she was a driver if Dromarch was the blade she was fighting with. That and giving him a general change of skills should have been an order as part of NG+. Shame.
I personally think the main issue with Nia/Dromarch is that all the early party members get upgraded forms (like mythra and poppi qt/qt pie) morag and zeke come at a point later in the game so they don't need upgrades, the only upgrade Nia gets is her blade form on Rex which means dromarch is left in the dust. My idea for a better dromarch would be if Nia used her blade form with dromarchs weapons/ skills for stronger attacks/skills
Dromarch lacks an evolution like Dagas has. It's a shame Dromarch is so bad. It's a character good for early stages if you are struggling against tough enemies and you are low level but once you level up that problem is solved. That skill to reduce damage from driver combos is a joke. I could see some use against the mercenaries that appear near Vandham's tomb but nothing else. I haven't tested the skill against Akhos, Jinn, Patroka or Mahlos but I guess it won't work. Maybe against Vandham or the mercenaries when you advance through Uraya...beyond that I don't see the use of it.
@@BARALover96 Nia improves a lot with Kos-Mos and Crossete but yeah, that's the thing: either she uses an OP blade like Kos-Mos or a DLC blade which is flatly superior at almost everything than the main game counterparts.
@Barley If it's for healing then it depends on the arts each driver has. I barely used healing arts, they're a waste compared to critical hit healing, that's why I despised blade Nia. As long as they work for fusion combos I'm honestly fine with whatever works, specially if Volcano can be set up. To be fair, I'm not very fan of using Nia with Nim, basically because she excels with ether cannons and balls iirc, so I wasn't very happy with how low performance she had with other weapons.

Dromarch still has a niche because you can't ride QTPi in the overworld, though that's only because the ESRB wouldn't let Tora put that functionality in.

when I first started to explore Dromarch, I loved his fully party heal from special 2, but then I realized every healer + their mother has their ability lol
Dromarch crushes his "role," which is to be Nia's companion and protector as long as she is on her own. The sad fact is, though, by the time you meet her in the story, he's kind of obsolete. Not as a character, but as a guardian. She goes from walking around with Jin and an Aegis to forming a party with a driver who will become superior to Addam and who is accompanied by another Aegis. So Dromarch is basically a back story character who gets to hang around past his usefulness, as Nia isn't exactly living hand to mouth by the time you meet her. But he does function as a voice of reason and wisdom, and his relationship with Gramps has an interesting way of balancing out their characters, as having either on their own would make them somewhat out of place as the "Boomers" of the group. Overall, I have a soft spot for Dromarch but not to the point that I would ever choose to use him regularly in combat anymore. I think it speaks more to the depth of the game as a whole and just how well they created the other top tier blades to have such personality that people would want to use them more than some of the main characters.
Now that you mentioned all of the worst blades, I'm curious to see how Electra and Dromarch would synergize. I mean, electrolysis is an AOE special, but beyond that....
Getting the same effect with Herald and QTPi with water mod shows you how devastating the combo is...The problem I believe happened to Dromarch is that he must be one of the very first blades made for the game, so the devs basically forgot to make him better and he was left just like that. Instead of him, Theory is a better option in my opinion. I compare Dromarch case with Sharla in DE. Really useless characters both in terms of battle but you have to deal with it.
I love keeping dromarch as a water/breaker/healer pure option on Nia. I don't use Nia often, and he isn't her primary when I do, but I like keeping the matching blades with their drivers in useful ways.
The funny thing about enemy Blade Combos is that they have a chance to resisted, so even if you get hit by enemy Driver Specials, it's very unlikely you'll actually end up getting hit with a Blade Combo effect. Also, Blade Combo damage works differently when enemies do it, as their damage is a percentage of your HP. So even if you get hit with a stage 3 combo, it'll never take more than half of your health away. In other words, Celestial Gift is even more useless than it sounds. Though it is also noteworthy that this skill also affects DOT damage received from a couple of enemy arts, like Ophion's Falak Buster, the Ardainian soldier's grenades and the rare times Malos' Buster inflicts Gravity on you. That's neat I guess.
Really looking forward to the *CATALYST SCIMITAR* video. She’s one of my favorite blades to use in the game, story only obviously since she’s not exactly built for Challenge Battle.

At least Sharla can be pretty helpful during lategame against enemies around level 70. With the difficulty spike around there you'll need all the healing you can get for those boss fights. Still doesn't make her nearly as helpful as the others. We can't say the same for our tiger.
I wanted to like Dromarch more in this game, especially as his voice actor also voice Vesemir in The Witcher 3. For the first skill I would have it reduce damage to the party by 10%. The second one would be replaced by an ability where every hp option gotten would increase damage and healing up to 90%. His last skill would be a revival after the driver loses all hp and hp is restored by 35%. Raging Tiger would have a flat 20% crit chance boost. Aqua Wave would have a damage ratio of 610 at max affinity. Dark maelstrom would spawn 3 hp potions after finishing.
They could have done something like this with Dromarch to make him less painful to use/not completely overlooked for BoC playthroughs: - boost his default crit rate ffs - make lv.1 special create a damage absorb shield when it crits instead of healing, so it's actually useful at full HP (maybe tweak numbers). - make Celestial Gift reduce Blade *Special* damage taken *by the entire party* (Not combo damage that happens .001% of the time, maybe tweak numbers). - make Nia's Gemini Loop an evasion art. (Cats are supposed to be agile so why not allow Nia/Dromarch to dodge attacks? Also fits with Dromarch's duty to protect Nia, a role in which he is currently outclassed by many blades, including Boreas, who's just here for the free food.) After ch.7 midpoint: - Dromarch's phys defense increases from 5% to 10% - When used by Nia, his ether mod increases from 10% to 20%, and he also gets a 30% agility mod. - Nia's Twin Rings break art is now an evasion art, and can break on all hits of the attack, not just the last one (This only applies to Dromarch and not common Ring blades). - New additions to battle skills: River's Blessing now increases damage dealt by 10/15/20/25/30% for each attack evaded using evasion arts (max 150%). Damage bonus is retained upon returning to Dromarch after blade switches. Howl Of Calm reduces aggro generated from attacks by 10/20/30/40/50%. Lastly, when Nia is at max affinity with Dromarch, you can push some unused button combination to trigger what is basically an enhanced shield block art for the entire party. It reduces damage taken and provides immunity to all reactions and debuffs for up to 5 seconds. Nia has to stand still and channel for the duration, but her allies can act normally (You can move to cancel the shield early if you're playing Nia). Blade combo damage dealt by the party is increased during this time, and combos that don't normally inflict DoT damage now can. Heck, I'd even have blade combo damage bypass the damage cap if it wouldn't be a technical nightmare to retroactively implement. All damage taken by the party while the shield is active is also reflected back to the attacker at 2x or 3x damage. This ability has a 90 second cooldown instead of only being available once per fight. Catalyst Scimitar deserves its own improvements, but that's for another time.
Me watching this video made me question why I never took Dromarch off of Nia. Seriously, I bet I still have Dromarch on Nia (I was about to boot up Xenoblade 2 to check, but it turns out that I may have archived an update or something at some point so I'm re-downloading it).

In my replay of XC2 from scratch, ever since I put Crosette on Nia, I've been wishing I could disengage Dromarch. I don't wanna play as Nia the whole time, cuz I just got Zeke's Corvin 4/5 Affinity filled out and he's breaking the game in a more fun way, but man I get sad whenever I see Nia swap off Crosette to Dromarch. At least if she swaps to her knuckles, I can wonder if she might actually use Launch on time. She won't, but hey, that's what Pandy's for, right?
Dromarch has a charm to him. And hes. a good character. Makes his bad kit an easy pill to swallow. Nia screaming out Healing halo has saved my ass when I screw up far to much for me to hate him.
to be fair I kind of hate the bitball's moveset. But yeah, I dropped Dromarch on NG+. I'm glad you showed reasonably functional support builds with him at least.

I still use Pyra and brighid. They’ve helped me with some of the harder challenges like the Gogol and Ken. Using pneuma has come in clutch for chain attacks too
Why wouldn't you use Brighid? She has some useful evasion skills, if I remember correctly. I gave her a Definitive Shield, in case Mòrag somehow gets hit
Dromarch could have done with an upgraded form/affinity tree a la Poppie/Dagas. At no point in the game is he really particularly useful and is just plain boring to have in battle.

It really doesn't help Nia that Dromarch is locked to her (and he is not supposed to be removable until NG+). I always "gimmick" him off as soon as Rex gets Master Driver (Put Dromarch on Master Driver Rex, then take him off. He is now removed from both Nia and Rex). The problem is that he's an early-game blade that doesn't end up scaling like other blades.
Honestly, I feel like if you want to use Dromarch, all you have to remember is that flora heals an aching soul.

His last skill would be a revival after the driver loses all hp and hp is restored by 35%. Raging Tiger would have a flat 20% crit chance boost. Aqua Wave would have a damage ratio of 610 at max affinity. Dark maelstrom would spawn 3 hp potions after finishing.

They could have done something like this with Dromarch to make him less painful to use/not completely overlooked for BoC playthroughs:
- boost his default crit rate ffs
- make lv.1 special create a damage absorb shield when it crits instead of healing, so it's actually useful at full HP (maybe tweak numbers).
- make Celestial Gift reduce Blade *Special* damage taken *by the entire party* (Not combo damage that happens .001% of the time, maybe tweak numbers).
- make Nia's Gemini Loop an evasion art. (Cats are supposed to be agile so why not allow Nia/Dromarch to dodge attacks? Also fits with Dromarch's duty to protect Nia, a role in which he is currently outclassed by many blades, including Boreas, who's just here for the free food.)
After ch.7 midpoint:
- Dromarch's phys defense increases from 5% to 10%
- When used by Nia, his ether mod increases from 10% to 20%, and he also gets a 30% agility mod.
- Nia's Twin Rings break art is now an evasion art, and can break on all hits of the attack, not just the last one (This only applies to Dromarch and not common Ring blades).
- New additions to battle skills: River's Blessing now increases damage dealt by 10/15/20/25/30% for each attack evaded using evasion arts (max 150%). Damage bonus is retained upon returning to Dromarch after blade switches. Howl Of Calm reduces aggro generated from attacks by 10/20/30/40/50%.
Lastly, when Nia is at max affinity with Dromarch, you can push some unused button combination to trigger what is basically an enhanced shield block art for the entire party. It reduces damage taken and provides immunity to all reactions and debuffs for up to 5 seconds. Nia has to stand still and channel for the duration, but her allies can act normally (You can move to cancel the shield early if you're playing Nia). Blade combo damage dealt by the party is increased during this time, and combos that don't normally inflict DoT damage now can. Heck, I'd even have blade combo damage bypass the damage cap if it wouldn't be a technical nightmare to retroactively implement. All damage taken by the party while the shield is active is also reflected back to the attacker at 2x or 3x damage. This ability has a 90 second cooldown instead of only being available once per fight. Catalyst Scimitar deserves its own improvements, but that's for another time.

Did the same with Rex. Being able to use every Blade is only good when you like his other Weapon Arts.
I only like a handful compared to the others.
He doesn't even have a unique looking weapon, its the same twin rings every other animal blade has.

In my replay of XC2 from scratch, ever since I put Crosette on Nia, I've been wishing I could disengage Dromarch. I don't wanna play as Nia the whole time, cuz I just got Zeke's Corvin 4/5 Affinity filled out and he's breaking the game in a more fun way, but man I get sad whenever I see Nia swap off Crosette to Dromarch. At least if she swaps to her knuckles, I can wonder if she might actually use Launch on time. She won't, but hey, that's what Pandy's for, right?
Dromarch has a charm to him.

I still use Pyra and brighid. They’ve helped me with some of the harder challenges like the Gogol and Ken. Using pneuma has come in clutch for chain attacks too
Why wouldn't you use Brighid? She has some useful evasion skills, if I remember correctly. I gave her a Definitive Shield, in case Mòrag somehow gets hit

Dromarch could have done with an upgraded form/affinity tree a la Poppie/Dagas. At no point in the game is he really particularly useful and is just plain boring to have in battle.

It really doesn't help Nia that Dromarch is locked to her (and he is not supposed to be removable until NG+). I always "gimmick" him off as soon as Rex gets Master Driver (Put Dromarch on Master Driver Rex, then take him off. He is now removed from both Nia and Rex). The problem is that he's an early-game blade that doesn't end up scaling like other blades.
I do wish we had some ACTUAL twin ring rare blades (preferably ones that are good)
