Honestly this and the opening of the wheel of time “the wheel of time turns and ages come and pass...” are the honest most epic starts I have ever read. It’s like “you’re about to read some epic shit right now, buckle up”. Props to these narrators and the sound effects making it all the more epic
Dude, even after a decade, when i hear that scene where the storm father tells Dalinar..i get CHILLS. They..were tortured, werent they? Yes. Horribly. And abandoned the one you call Taln. How long has it been..a thousand years..? Four. Thousand. Years. Four thousand years of torture. Its SO good, one of GAs best moments I cant wait til book 7/8 when we finally get Talns story
The Dustbringers did their work well. Oh no, you're broken too Jezrien Who knows - maybe it will be true That missing sword though. Poor Taln. Abandoned by his crew.
@@Hadrian1616 when the heralds die they go back and are tormented, so Taln "died" and went back to be tormented. Spoilers for Oathbringer, but they can only really die through the special knife or something similar, and it's unclear how that worked.
@@tadious9415it was abundantly clear how the dagger worked, especially with RoW telling us the exact mechanics of his death. What happened was: the soul was conducted by raysium into the gemstone, but then he decayed and became a normal soul, which a gemstone cannot protect vs the pull of the beyond.
@@snowdrop9810 Yeah once the next book came out and explained the mechanics it was clear. But I believe this comment was from before RoW came out, or at least before I read it. Then it wasn't really as clear.
After reading the 4th instalment, this is even crazier. I guess I cannot blame the Heralds, but to lie to the people and say "we won!! Yippee!". My question is this...do the constant reincarnations drive the Heralds crazy? Or breaking the Oathpact?
Yeah but i wonder who made this oathpact? and how could he imagine that it will last always? Because its terrible for heralds . I guess Maybe when the person who make the oathpact had been tricked by enemies since it can not last long
So, part of the Herald's insanity comes from their reincarnations. They are what is referred to as Cognitive Shadows, which is a 'soul' of investiture stapled to a body. At the point they're at, they're closer to a spren than a human. One of the prevailing theories as to why the Heralds go insane in the very specific way that they do, is because, like spren, they are influenced by humanity's perception of them, and their insanity is a direct perversion of the divine attributes they once embodied. So, like the way that Jezrien ended up a drunk beggar, rather than the king he was, and was supposed to be.
As someone pointed out the swords in the ring in this excerpt which are the honour blades are not still in that place in the current setting of the books. At least 3 are shown to be in the possession of some character during the novels and all of the others are assumed to be with the stone shamans in Shinovar.
Spoilers for Oathbringer: At first, I didn't know what this meant at all. I don't think anybody who started reading the books did. Finishing all the books up to rhythm of war, and going back... The scene takes on so much more meaning, I teared up. An incredible sacrifice, and those who made it finally being worn down and abandoning it. Talen's dialogue in oathbringer during the invasion of Fen City was incredible, and Ash's reaction was so human.
gotta love this opening.. so much content and mixed feelings into this [SPOILERS] . . . . at first you think they are just traitors, but they were only human. Nothing more nothing less.Honestly This decision paid off relatively well, never before a desolation took so long to come. The amount of people they saved indirectly cannot be understimated. If the radiance hadn't shattered the enemy could never have gotten anything even with them returning after so long.

Agree
I've listened up to oathbringer. The graphic audio is freaking intense. "WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP A MAN CAN TAKE!?"
Always the next one.
My first “read” of the first four stormlight books has been via graphic audio they really are fantastic.

Such an epic opening to a great series.
Taln is perhaps the most heroic figure in all of fiction. His sacrifice and honor are beyond description.

And i think herald went crazy because they are kind of immortal so living without any purpose and the regret they have for betraying their friend .

Is it just me or does Dylan Lynch have the same voice as Jeffrey Combs?
Is this the music used in the graphic audio or was it added for this video?
