Went there all through my childhood as well as Brean, Hemsby, St Mary's and worked at Camber in 1990 as Bar Supervisor, it used to be so special... now it's all changed.
Went to Pontins Isle Of Wight in the early 80s. They had this cheeky Londoner bluecoat who was very popular. Years later I found out it was Shane Richie.
Such great times stylish and beautiful. Not like now with crappy Britannia hotels running Pontins into to the ground. So sad no care or respect for customers, filthy chalets, having to pay for electric, chavvy clientele, rude staff. If I had the money I'd buy Pontins and return it to its former glory. Make all their sites half or full board and treat paying customers with the RESPECT and service they deserve. Pontins needs rescuing before it's too late and Britannia hotels wrecks what's left.
I totally agree club together with a heap load of other restorers and buy it return to the hey day of a popular resort with staff that smile and enjoy their jobs instead of the run down rude shit hole it is with the councils and parliament not taking complaints serious enough 🥳
So many of us go to Pontins and return again because its the only holiday we can afford. We take the kids, the grandkids because they love it,shame that Britannia hotels look upon us as mugs. The parks, chalets, are falling to bits, majority of staff do their best but are undervalued by a company that couldnt give a shit.Bluecoats are fantastic and go above n beyond to see that the guests especially the kids all have a great time.Very sad to see how Pontins has become in the last few years.
allydenise I went there when I was about 8 I think. Amazing holiday thanks to amazing people like you. Thanks for an amazing time! Edit - Forgot the kisses xxx
I am not seeking to say anything bad about the General Manager because I don't know him. It's just interesting to look back and see how things have changed that's all. The General Manager's comments at 4:56 have not aged well - it just goes to show you how times have changed. What he says and the way he has placed his arms around the two women workers would probably by todays standards now be considered sexual harrassment by the camps General Manager to what appear to be much junior members of staff. He appears to be displaying the women almost as if they were his personal trophies and at the same time, (perhaps inadvertently, perhaps deliberately) implying that all the female staff were employed primarily for their looks. When I was a kid in the mid 1970s I had a fantastic two weeks at Pontins Camber Sands with my family and I have many happy memories of that holiday. Great times! Thank you Kevin Gray for posting this. I only wish there was a film like this from my time there in the mid 1970s but that was in the days before video and camcorders had been invented so therefore not so many films from that era exist.
Pontin's looks so beautiful back then. Nowadays, it looks so dated and in a state of disrepair, and their current parent company Britania Hotels don't seem to care about the cleanliness of the accomodation, which guests mostly complain about, nor it's poor Health & Safety....
They are holidays for the poor with camps being run into the ground until they are eventually sold off to be developed into housing. At one time holiday camps put as Butlins and Pontins were everywhere and while they catered for the working class they were well maintained and popular. When the working class became wealthier they stopped going and Butlins downsized and went upmarket a bit more and Pontins became for the poorest in society. TBH I would rather stay at home than stay in a place which is so bad, the idea of a holiday is to escape life for a while not go somewhere that makes even the worst homes look like a palace.
Chart Music brought me here.
Get us a croc, mam!

The chalets at Southport Pontins look exactly the same today!
Salad bar: Beef, tomato, cucumber, runner beans, cauliflower, rice.
Pontins has now become a shadow of its former self.
Worked behind the bar summer 91 and a bit of 92. Crazy times.

we can please ourselves alright
My child hood all coming back
What a slimeball with the staff at the five minute mark. I worked there in 1990. It wasn't great.
I agree…….that just felt uncomfortable to watch
When's this from? I'd guess 1990/1?

Send me back to 80s and 90s please 🙏 I wish I had a time machine 😢😢😢
Just how I remember it..

Which generation gets worst and worst
Wow looked so so different as well 😢😢😢
When would this be? 1987/88?
I was crocodile!!
4:57 - Eugh, fckin predator running the camp.
I'm going there on the 9th august , 4th time , despite its bad rep for being dirty , we don't care the nighttime is the best bit
Looks like 1985
Check the Hair-Don't @ 3:35!! Aaargh! 😩
I don't want to live in a universe where a place like this exists.
It is representative of a more simple society, back when people were actually happy with life.
You're right, you should probably leave this universe.
Somerset bar at brean..was not allowed in the no children..my dad and brother used to go an I used to make a fuss about it
It's a complete shit hole now. I was there for a 70s & 80s weekend. Entertainment was good though😁
Noddy train
