- This is a review of a YesKatana sword.
Corrections:
The tassel holder is often stuck to one side and does not pivot to either side. I was incorrect when stating that it should go to either side..

If you want to try to pop the tsuka off and shim it so it doesn't rattle if somebody visits and wants to hold it, try using a blunted nail (flat) inside of the rosette on the handle. It may be a two piece sleeved type design where one side has the pin and the other side has the hole in it to pop that pin back out. These type of fittings were common on tachi with metal pins, sometimes as part of the menuki, before bamboo mekugi became the norm on katanas et al. Great review and agree with the assessment.
I tried to give it a few taps but nothing moved. It looks like a little copper pipe was used to run though after the tang was set in the nakago. Then hammered out so that it would stay put. I can probably get it apart but I will not be able to get it back together the same way.
@@Matthew_Jensen oof, yeah if they flared the ends on it the only way to get it out would be to drill it out. Could replace it with a regular mekugi, if you're bored and run out of other projects. 🙂
We'll never know whether any human bias was triggered by not receiving a swirly mitsudomoe. You've shown however, that YesKatana seem to have some moral masochism tendencies. Thanks for the review!
It looks like it could've been a better sword if more patience and attention was given to it when it was being assembled. Fit and finish on a sword is really important, and this is a good example as to why. I can't justify buying a poorly constructed $300+ wall hanger.
You and I both know what this is...but great job on the video Matt.
great video
Cool.
Yikes! Those fittings take "muddy" to a whole new level. And I'm wondering if that tsuka is actually hollow?
90% good review and loads of fun and 10% anyways
I almost hesitate to suggest: Mike's Sword Hospital?
👍
There are some crazy cool designs at YesKatana. Not just Japanese but Chinese and European, too.
A little short for a tachi. The sori isn't there either. Looks like a katana blade with tachi fittings. It's common.
The blade looks pretty near identical to my Sheng-Sword shobu zukuri. I wonder if they are using the same blade from the same source.
Most of the Chinese sword made reproductions are made in the same place, just kinda sold under other brands.
Its a tachi. Just because how its mounted. Yes it is katana length and isnt as deeply curved but it is a tachi.
Who makes it ?
No Katana
That has to be the ugliest hamon line I have ever seen, and I used to be a mall ninja nerd so I know ugly
hahaha this got me dying
I actually like it.....
Hahaha I do like this as wall art
No katana masquerading as a tachi...
that's not a tachi, it's a katana mounted for horseback
Katanas are much shorter than tachis, most historical katanas have a blade length of roughly 28in
@@simondean5227 yep definitely, a lot of uchigatanas were shortened tachi
Blah blah algorithm thingy. 🤠
More like NOkatana....
Anyway
Roni. Katana revisited:
I recently took a look again at ronin katana. It's the time of their scratch and dent sale and I was still looking for a good monotempered beater for practice as I have bent a few katana during cutting in bad cuts. Wanted something inexpensive and so I hit the site. Annual S and D sale so now was a good time. Pulled the trigger on a dojo pro.
Ronin katana was one of the first brands I tried out back when I started collecting. Not knowing much but they didn't really wow me, but again I didn't really know what to look for but I just didn't like them. The koshira kept coming off of their kats no matter how much they were, meaning the elite had the same issues. I viewed their lack of caring to address the issue as a sign of a bad company.
Now after years of handling many many brands and knowing what to look for, I tried them again but....only at their scratch and dent prices.
So I got a dojo pro...their wraps are still the same....but they have improved in their alignments and tsuka shape or at least mine did. Glad to see they still do the diamond tip as that's something that I did always like. Their blades were never bad only the tsukas had the issues. Since then I've learned to wrap my own tsukas and able to change fittings to suit me.
The ronin SaD piece with some alterations is now one of my favorites.
