As my birthday resolution, I've decided to dust off my German (as my grammar/vocab might show) and I feel the same excitement learning from you as I did when I first started in 1973. Danke!
I am 13, I am fluent in both English and Filipino, learning German is my next goal. It would really help me for my future, so I'm grateful that I discovered this video, Danke ! :D
Hey man, just wanted to say that even though I'm learning German for a bit over a year, and made quite a lot of progress, I've still managed to find so much usefull information that, somehow, I haven't stumbled upon so far. I can only thank you for the effort put into making this, and remember that your work is appreciated by many.
Thank you for the kind words. It is always nice to hear that I have made a difference. I wish you the best in your German learning. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you along the way.
@@MrLAntrim I have a query regarding learning languages generally. From what I understand, often its the case that the pronunciation and tone in which a non native person speaks their chosen language will be influenced by the teachers native or second language. For instance, if as you do, speak English with an American tone and pronunciation, will I as the learner generally take on those influences in the case of learning the German language? If this is the case, should we not learn German from a person who speaks English with the desired intonation, such as with an English, Australian or indeed American intonation?
If your only goal is to mimic native speakers' pronunciation, tone and intonation, sure. My caution would be that many native speakers don't have experience learning their own language and therefore have trouble relating when learners struggle with topics that they find simple as a native speaker.
@@MrLAntrim Im glad I met your channel and your incredible skills to teach everyone! All the usefull information, curiosities the progress I've made. Thanks to you I feel that I can learn more about this amazing language and their people!
OMG I will recommend this video to any one who is new or wants to upgrade skills in this language . The most amazing part is the different forms of verbs being conjugated which even after paying in some places such clarifications are never brought out. Can’t wait to watch videos for A2.
Is it enough if we watch this whole video & go give the A1 exam? Does this video complete the whole exam syllabus of A1? Or what is missing to give the exam?

Took me watching over 20 different videos on learning German to find this. Even all combined they don't match up to this amazing guide. Thanks so much Herr Antrin, learning German just got so much more fun! :D
Sir! I used to be a teacher and currently learning German, I passed the A1 and still going back to basics so I wont forget and now.... this this video is really rocking it. Putting it together was not easy, and I cant tell you have a heart of a teacher. I LEARNED a loooot... seriously. Even if I go back to this video over and over again, I would learn German faster than expected. thank you soooooooooooooo much. I will recommend your video to pay it forward.
Trying to brush up on my German after years of not using it this course is perfect. Such a good patient teacher.really enjoying it. Thank you Herr Antrim.
This was so informative. I am at a B1 level (according to the Goethe Placement test). I spent about a week watching this in entirely. I also wrote things down and I felt so much better with my German. Especially with forming sentences and understanding sentences, conjugated verbs, etc. I felt like this was a great refresher for me and I feel much more confident in my German skills. My partner is German and he also says that I know more than what I think I know. Which I believe is true. I do have a lack of confidence with German. I have so far lived in Germany for 6 months (Will be going back soon - hopefully). I truly love the language, I miss hearing it, even at times I said things wrong, or I got flustered because I try so hard to understand and speak back but it doesn't come out so grammatically correct (unlike my English). But I still try and try again. I hope to gain fluency in the language, live and work in Germany. It truly feels like home to me. I cannot thank you enough for the work you put into your videos, you deserve so much views and recognition. I really feel like I finally understand German more than I did. Especially on the Grammar terms. I look forward to your next videos! Tausend Dank! Herr Antrim.
@@MrLAntrim as you are not a native just curious :) as you are American what made you want to learn German and how long did it take for you to become fluent? as I imagine you can speak standard German but can you speak the Saxon dialect ? just curious
This is an amazing course for the beginners, you put so much efforts, time and work in this video, I really appreciate it ! Thank you so much for explaining the basic rules, they are really helpful to me. One of the best German course ever done !
I'm German and was finding a video to help a friend, especially with pronunciation. When you can pronounce things correctly, your confidence goes up because you don't feel like you'll "sound funny." This video is great. The pronunciation is perfect and not too formal. It also isn't dated like some of the other videos I've seen.
That's a different and interesting point of view... I'm Brazilian, and when I first learned English, I obsessed a lot over pronunciation, to the point that I lost most of my accent and now I few like I lost a lot of time when I should have focused more on being understood, rather than speaking exactly like a native would.
I’m planning to move to Germany and this is super helpful, plus I recognize a lot of words and phrases from my convos with my friend. Who does not type in English, so I have to step up my German learning.
Thank you for such a great bunch of lessons! I am a Ukrainian university student trying to resurrect my knowledge of German, that was lost after my graduation from school and your videos are just invaluable!

Thank you very much Mr. Antrim! I work in a Cruise ship with 100% German guest and watching your videos enriched my knowledge in German Language. Your explanafion is very clear. Super!
That was a fun watch. Just browsed a bit through the course and I really like how entertaining it is. I mean, you can tell this is not a native speaker after 3 seconds. For the first level, I doubt that makes a difference and one could argue that someone with a firmer grasp of the English language might even be better to get you started as they would know the issues students are facing much better (e.g. I would never have guessed someone would have problems distinguishing wer & wo).
Oh really? Give him timestamps, maybe he doesn't notice. I am sure he would correct himself. From my perspective, his pronunciation is awesome, and he also explains it technically!!!
@@nicolaebacrau6703 Yes i am a native german. Maybe in some small southern parts of Germany it is more pronounced like this, but i would say in most speaken "normal" German "Hochdeutsch", it is pronounced way higher. 1:42:15 "Do you find me handsome?" "I think you are cute" 😊 1:40:04 "Ich relaxe in meinem Haus. - I am relaxing in my house." We Germans don't really say 'relaxen' . But 'entspannen' . "Ich entspanne mich in meinem Haus." If we use the word 'relax' in a sentence, we pronounce it englisch. We use the word 'relax' more specifically in the medical sense. Mostly for syndrome diseases. Hi Mr. Antrim, great job, great pronunciation, I was awed by it, exept for some little details. E.g., Mond and Tor, the "o" is long like in "schon" or "Hohn". (Greetings, I am from Munich.)
Thanks you're doing a great job explaining this. I often use this to keep track of and refresh my knowledge when I'm away from Germany or not in a German course.
I very much enjoyed this. Thank you very much! (I watched this because I am going in for my A1 this next week and wanted to catch up. I have learned mostly by osmosis so far and now I can go in and hopefully pass the test. The course helped me confirm I can do relatively well with the basics, but also taught me a bunch of things I was missing, so thank you!)
Thank you. Just found you on YT. I studied German when I was in the navy and we were slated to go to Hamburg. I am entirely self-taught and thus I take all the credit, or as the case may be, the blame. Other than Guten Tag, Guten Abent, and Auf wiedersehn, the only thing I remember from those dim and dusty days are, Wie viel costet der kohl. Hope to rectify that starting now. Also subbed.
Herr Antrim, thank you for all the effort you put into teaching in your videos! After I finished the German course on Duolingo, I realized I had a basic grasp of the language, but still not enough vocabulary to be able to read German children's books, or really feel comfortable having a real time dialogue with my friend in Germany. Your videos, as well as some of the channels you recommended, have helped me understand a lot of the why's and how's of the language that I didn't pick up from Duolingo. Your video about spelling and pronunciation (especially regarding ridiculously long compound words) actually brought me to a question: can ANY German nouns be used to form a compound word, or are there notable exceptions? And are there specific rules when making a compound word? I've noticed some that seem to have extra letters between the individual nouns. Thanks again, looking forward to more videos! Keep up the good work!
Finally I completed this course in eleven days and I learned a lot. I wrote many important notes and learned a lot. Thank you. It was really useful,What would you suggest me to take after this course to improve my learning level. Danke schön das es sher gut

⚠️ It's always easier to learn a language from non native teachers, they know exactly what we need to learn, and the difficulties a beginner will face. It's always easier to understand, because the words are so well pronounced. Often, a native person talks not so clear. This happens in any language. And I can say that, because I'm Brazilian, I speak Portuguese. I can clearly see the small difference, but the teacher here has an excellent pronounce. I wish all German people could speak so clear, but on daily life, even the easier phrases are not said so clear. If you're an advanced student, well, you can continue learning from a native person. This video is a true treasure for all foreign people beginning to study German. 🙏🙏👍❤️

I am 13, I am fluent in both English and Filipino, learning German is my next goal. It would really help me for my future, so I'm grateful that I discovered this video, Danke ! :D
Hey what's up?
This teacher is one of the most wonderful people I have ever seen and the best at teaching German.
Thank you. I really appreciate that.
@@MrLAntrim I will just like to say thank you
@@MrLAntrim Im glad I met your channel and your incredible skills to teach everyone! All the usefull information, curiosities the progress I've made.

Dankeschön 🇩🇪

Trying to brush up on my German after years of not using it this course is perfect. Such a good patient teacher.really enjoying it. Thank you Herr Antrim.
why is nobody talking about your sense of humor? You had me smiling the entire time!!! Thank youuu!!!!

Hey how are you and the weather there?
I'm German and was finding a video to help a friend, especially with pronunciation. When you can pronounce things correctly, your confidence goes up because you don't feel like you'll "sound funny." This video is great. The pronunciation is perfect and not too formal. It also isn't dated like some of the other videos I've seen.
That's a different and interesting point of view... I'm Brazilian, and when I first learned English, I obsessed a lot over pronunciation, to the point that I lost most of my accent and now I few like I lost a lot of time when I should have focused more on being understood, rather than speaking exactly like a native would.
This is by far the most useful teaching approach I’ve found for learning the basics of German. Thank you
Glad you think so!
I’m planning to move to Germany and this is super helpful, plus I recognize a lot of words and phrases from my convos with my friend. Who does not type in English, so I have to step up my German learning.

Sometimes your pronunciation is a bit off, but still by FAR ... the BEST german i heard from a non native speaking person.

Imagine how hard it is for us the spanish speakers to learn this language and specially with the explanation in English 🤣🤣 it means that I need to use my English skills to understand German ✨✨ Is complicated but never impossible :D
Poor spanish speakers. In total, German has 13 different vowel sounds, Ive seen so many Spanish speakers struggle with it, lol. Also, so many consonants are different: B, D, G, H, J, K, P, R, S, T, V, W, Z. I'm just so happy it was the other way around for me.

1:42:15 "Do you find me handsome?"
"I think you are cute" 😊
1:40:04 "Ich relaxe in meinem Haus. - I am relaxing in my house."
We Germans don't really say 'relaxen' . But 'entspannen' . "Ich entspanne mich in meinem Haus." If we use the word 'relax' in a sentence, we pronounce it englisch.
We use the word 'relax' more specifically in the medical sense. Mostly for syndrome diseases. For example: Muskelrelaxation - muscle relaxation.
The tongue twisters are such an amazing idea. I love having reference points for languages I'm learning, and I even do it for my native language, English.

Good luck and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
