This is how my algorithm looks. I had seen all these videos before. I call this TikTok premium, because everyone puts so much effort into their videos, and its such a niche side of tiktok. Not many people are taking the time out to color grade their tiktoks, focus on composition and visual storytelling.
I totally agree! There are some amazing filmmakers out there and it’s nice to see the work they do when you put in the effort :) do you have any videos not on the list that is a must watch??
Whilst skilled and aesthetically pretty, calling this _filmmaking_ is generous. It is creative content, closer to advertising than cinema - most likely the result of people trying to find a use for all the expensive gear they've bought. When you try to break down what these guys are actually trying to say; the intention, the story, the message, the idea, it all dissolves like wet candyfloss. I'm not saying there's no place for gorgeous videos like these, I'm just saying the endless pointless whirlpool of content-for-content's-sake is rotting our brains.
Depends how you look at it. In some ways many of these were telling a story. A filmmakers job at the end of the day is to incite emotion. If you made your audience feel an emotion you have done or told something to make them feel that way. Whether you like them or not is one thing but many of these do fall in line with filmmaking. At the end of the day its art. How you like to view your art is up to you.
It’s definitely an interesting perspective and you bring up a lot of good points. However, I do feel like a lot of these videos offer a story, an emotion and invoke a feeling which is the entire point of filmmaking. A lot of these have small stories and have an intention behind the framing, editing, and lighting. Speaking from experience and working in the industry as a cinematographer I see the industry changing from within, and a lot of filmmakers are looking at what content creators are making and how they are innovating the word “filmmaking” so I do agree there is a lot of “useless content” but I do feel like these filmmakers have a lot to offer and are changing the filmmaking game. Which is why I made this series. But that’s just my opinion on the subject, and like finalgrade said art is subjective, and to each their own 😊
Is it not? They do tell a story, they have thought behind the framing and composition. It invokes a message and or a feeling. It’s not a random series of images, when you can find a message behind the stories they tell. I feel like these creators are the next filmmakers, and it’s much harder to tell a compelling story in 10 seconds than 2 hours. That’s why short films are hard because you don’t have the time to really dive into a characters motivations. I feel like what these guys are doing is really changing the concept of story telling and using images to move the narrative forward.
love this format man! Awesome work
Thank you!! Really happy you enjoyed it :) more to come!
