Ukraine live: Footage emerges of heavy Russian losses in Kyiv suburb

- Footage showing the aftermath of some intense clashes in Bucha, a Kyiv suburb, where a Russian mechanised column suffered heavy losses, emerged on social media on Sunday.
Armoured cars and trucks were strewn along Vokzal'na St in the northwest suburb that lies between Kyiv and an airfield recently captured by Russian forces.
Russian troops drew closer to Kyiv, a city of almost 3 million, street fighting broke out in Ukraine's second-largest city, Kharkiv, and strategic ports in the country's south came under pressure from the invading forces.
Ukrainian defenders put up stiff resistance that appeared to slow the invasion.

@Supriya Mukherjee I have, whilst indeed a heroic defence (I don't deny that) the only reason the russians won that is because they were prepared to throw 1000's of poorly equipped troops into the meatgrinder. Losses for Stalingrad were estimated between 400,000 russians and 150,000 Axis - high estimate of up to 800,000 russians and 250,000 Axis forces. Does Putin want Kyiv to become Russia's Stalingrad?

There has barely been any true war happening in Europe ever since the Second World War. Let this be a reminder to all Europeans of the dangers of war. The Russian forces are made up of 80 % conscripts who were under the belief that they were on military exercises at the border regions.. and each time a detail of soldiers is released they discover they are part of an invading force . They are young and inexperienced with no interest to invade.They are discovering the costs are high and many are capitulating easily and quickly against people with determination to defend their homeland… Some captured soldiers don’t even know the name of the area or city where they were captured …this shows how badly conceived all of this is…Also not explained by any news channels is why this is happening which is … in 2012 gas reserves were discovered around and in Crimea and Southern Ukraine and off the shore of Ukraine as well as the areas annexed so far in Eastern Ukraine. The Ukrainians last leader was in Moscows pocket . So Ukraine has the possibility to become as big an exporter of gas as Russia is and which will also expedite it into NATO status eliminating a buffer zone that has always existed for Moscow.
On the flip side... soldiers who are captured are trained for such situations and they may full well now why they’re there

This is actually a pretty standard tactic. The Germans did it in the battle of the bulge.

@@theancientonez their whole army ISN’T made up of conscripts. Many regiments are made up of soldiers who did indeed volunteer to sign up for active duty (as opposed to being forced). Also it’s quite common for soldiers to lie about what they know if they are captured by the enemy. In the UK this is a tactic taught to soldiers so that they don’t give away any key tactical information. My guess is many of the soldiers captured are lying about not wanting to be there in order to avoid torture or further punishment…

I love this guy's Russian. I speak Russian fairly well, I think, so I understand maybe 75% of what he is saying. He is cussing up a storm. What I really love is that he uses the word "blyadt" about 14 times in 50 seconds. The word's meaning and usage is something like the English F-bomb. He also uses "yobani blyadt" which means something like "mother f-bomberer". I would love to get a good translation of this.

It's always worth trying to capture a city without going street to street doing what it takes to root out defenders. But when that fails, there are always the more brutal options to fall back on.
Doing so will probably not even hurt Russia diplomatically or in the eyes of public opinion. There really isn't too much further to fall there.

@@blizZted Russia has national service and short-term contract service (better pay). A good amount of the Russian armed forced is made up of these and many conscripts are strongly urged to take the contract service in order to not be paid pittance for their time in the army.
Most of them are just poor lads who's draft came at the wrong time... They're not killers, they're not professionals. This is young men being told to sit in vehicles as they hurtle through Ukraine hoping not to be ambushed by rocket launchers.

For everyone talking about the lack of footage of Ukrainian losses, that’s because it’s COMMON SENSE that there’s going to be heavy losses for Ukraine. There HAVE been heavy losses for them already, civilian or otherwise.
You shouldn’t need to see that to know it.
What you DO need to see is the fact that despite its military prowess, Russia is being fended off by a nation of proud, patriotic people who’ll fight to the bitter end.
The losses of a massive military machine to a strong, independent people mean much more than the losses you expect to take place.
So in short spin it into your favour of who you are rooting for. A bit of propaganda but I respect the grind.

pretty much true nowadays most modern rocket launchers can destroy/disable them in 1 hit right and there was also the drone footage if anyone saw that just takes them out one after the other big easy to spot targets and then the troops are all stood around the tanks when they got blown up

What your seeing is Russian arrogance and miscalculation alongside poor strategic planning. The Russian commanders are acting like they have complete air superiority and dominate the areas that they occupy. They have neither.
Anti-Armour weapons like Javelin and NLAW certainly level the playing field a lot but if the Russian had not under estimated their enemy and had complete dominance of the air then this may have gone a lot better for them.

As a x infantry soldier, this does not look like a real conflict to me. Staged would be my take on it. If the Russians wanted Ukraine they would have it in days. This is no comparison to cheznia whatsoever.
I believe somewhere along the line that plans for true conflict reversed into a staged war because of powers we know nothing about or are yet to come to acknowledge.

Putin always came across as an intelligent man, I'm finding it difficult to understand how he has got things so wrong. The west for the most part just wanted Russia to lighten up and become part of the wider world community. Most of Europe had reduced it military to the point were it was not much more than a defence force. The US retained its military power due to terrorisms in the middle east 9/11 and unstable middle eastern nations. Russia was not an issue until Putin started invading his neighbours, he should have been building roads, opening up and trading with the rest of the world. I guess he wants to be the leader that made Russia great again, its not going to well. His action have lead directly to Europe rearming and Russia becoming isolated.
He wants to rebuild "Mother Russia". It didn't work then, why does he think it will work now?

This is in Donbass, the guy is speaking Russian and has an accent from that region and those are Ukrainian forces which were destroyed by Russian air strikes. This has been reported from many other sources and filmed in different perspectives. It’s the aftermath of the separatists advance a little deeper into the territory. Download a VPN, use Google translate and tune into the news from the Donbass, you’ll see the whole story.

Totally shocked at this so called army of Russian invaders. Looking at their tanks for instance, I thought it was going to be a party for them, but no way. The American javelins are to much, along with air drones from turkey. But my biggest fear, is that if puttins getting beat, will he press that button. How have Russia lost so many lives when they are the attackers with all of the armoured tanks, jets and man power?
Because most of it is 30-40 year old designs, and up against our modern anti tank missiles it stands no chance, NATO even has bullets that can penetrate that amour.
Because nato and all the other countries are provided Ukraine with vehicles, guns, etc otherwise Ukraine would of been done for by now
Seems like they're facing more opposition than they thought. That and the willingness to fight. Putin thought Ukraine would roll over immediately like what happened in their invasion of Crimea in 2014, and now from what I have gathered from different videos of Russian POWs, a lot of these guys didn't even know they were participating in an invasion. They thought they were being deployed to perform exercises, not to fight against their brothers.
Russia haven’t planned logistically. Ukrainian resistance has targeting the supply routes meaning Russian armour and infantry end up without fuel, ammunition and food. The west has also flooded Ukraine with javelins and the Ukrainians are very effective at using them. Tanks are useless without a supply line. Putin also invaded too late, instead of invading when the ground was frozen, the spring came early and now Russian forces are being bogged down.

I am so confused. Some of the pics are old and have nothing to do with the conflict. I wonder how much of this was because Ukraine have murdered over 13,000 in Donetsk. War is just awful. I hope people stay as safe as possible. The innocents in the middle always suffer.

Ukraine is a strange chimaera of a country. Legitimised (in the modern era at least) and given stature by a USSR that no longer exists. Somehow defined as much by what it is not as by what it is. But that is how countries are born. Ukraine is a legitimate, sovereign and independent state, however it came into being. It is not a former Soviet prize for a megalomaniac narcissist to brood and pout over.
The world moves on and it has moved on. Ukraine is there and has every right to be there. This invasion is a disgrace and will (one hopes) both fail and bring down Putin and Lukašenko and many other corrupt toadies.

I didn't bear arms, but was fired on, shelled (once) and on an investigation into human rights abuses I had an assault rifle cocked and held to my temple. I still dream fleetingly of that day. So yes... Now it is daffodils and aromatic herbs and shaped yew trees for me. And you may call me what you will.
