I beg to differ with one of the points that Claire made on acceptance. Yes while there are quirks that you may accept a friendship where your 'energy' is not returned is draining. To use one of the examples mentioned; If your friend goes out to plan amazing birthday celebrations for you the least you can do is return the favour. It may not be on the same scale but even a coffee, a slice of cake, something to commemorate this person you consider dear. Maybe one year you got swamped with work, life etc and all you managed was a phone call. But it can't be every year you do nothing whilst they do everything on yours. The absence of balance eventually becomes the elephant in the room.

I personally do things for my friends and expect totally NOTHING in return. NOTHING!!! All I need from my friends is love, loyalty. They way they choose to show it is up to them. I will throw a friend birthday party after birthday party because I want to and because I feel like I want to celebrate them. And when I do it, I shall NEVER expect the favor to be returned. If I do expect the favor to be returned I will mention it. “Btw Jane, I expect you to match this energy on my birthday”.
For example: I didn’t have a baby shower because we were in lockdown. I have communicated to my friends that if I have a second baby, I want a shower.

Nah I disagree. A healthy relationship will understand that people are different and will respect these differences. They also won’t expect you to reciprocate.

@@Knowledge2cash this i agree my friends blame me for expecting nothing on my birthday i keep telling them i don't like extravagant parties (am not married and i keep emphasizing i Don't want showers) and i can only do what i can, but no pressure to those friends expecting from me, let people be

I feel like people want boundaries but they don't know what boundaries are so they don't know how to ask. Our culture also sees boundaries as kajanja like you said.
The fact that doctors feel free to publicly talk about a patients health problems. Eg. the speaker who recently passed away and the oncologist gave details about the deceased health situation and conversations they had in private. I saw that as disrespecting towards the deceased and his family members. And also to patients he is currently treating. No boundaries at all. If he was the US, he would have been sued for breach of confidentiality. Uganda why are we like this?why don't we allow people to be?

#releaseyourself This year I released myself from a friend I have known for so many years and considered a sister but realised I run down her priority list and that’s ok even if it hurt a bit. We all met new people that fit into our current life space but it took me a while to let go.

If you are an independent adult, financially stable, it's very easy to create boundaries with your toxic family. You love from a distance, support from a distance etc. Meet physically when you choose to etc. The challenge is if you are still living under their roof or depending on them financially 😂 Whatever the case is, walk away from toxicity whenever you can. Do not engage. Don't get into physical fights with your parents or abusive battles. Disagree respectfully and walk away. I have seen people beat up their parents but does it ever solve anything or it just makes you equally toxic 🤔

Hi ladies, am watching you from Ireland. You showed up in my RUclips feed today and I had to ask a friend in Uganda who you are. The first thing that stood out for me is Fiona's expressions and mannerisms (the hand gestures - talking with your hands, the pointy finger, the eyes open wide when drawing emphasis on something...). It was like looking in the mirror and seeing all the things my friends tell me I am, ALL THE TIME! Girl, you embody me, spirit soul and body!💖💖
That said....ladies, I have watched a couple of your "the unpopular opinion" videos now and YOU ARE NAILING IT! I felt like going through the screen and joining you at the table! LOL! 😂😂Thank you for shining a light on these things and for pushing the boundaries.

  • @LindaTinahTV

Claire, you were dropping them gems!!!!!!!!!! Love it. I say this a lot too. When you give and do things for a loved one, do it because it makes you happy to do regardless of how the other person receives it, and do it without expectations.

People talk a lot about compromise but I believe there are many layers to it. It should have limits. If you find yourself OVER compromising or being the only one compromising, check that relationship.

Thanks ladies for this topic…I have always struggled with communicating what I don’t like for the fear of looking bad but in the end it goes down badly…it’s some think I am practicing and yes a healthy relationship needs a lot of work in communication and being sincere. We all can’t like everything about the other party it’s part of life.

Thank you for the time you put into this. We appreciate 😍, also your transparency shines through. Thank you for that as well.
A healthy relationship begins with you and in you. Nothing (friends, family, work, business,...)outside you can actually give you a standard on how to have a healthy relationship. With that being said, I highly believe in personal accountability and cross examination, one's life must have values and standards against which every aspect in their life is judged.
We should pay the price of knowing ourselves (as a man thinks in his heart, so is he) and from this you will gauge whether actions from people can be deemed as toxic.
A healthy relationship includes compassion, compromise ( in line with your values not outside of them), understanding, ability to adapt and grow, open communication, accountability among others.
