The profound experience I had listening to this album over and over almost all night never left me and then began my love for his music for many years. Also I'm good with his courage to speak out in his music during the plandemic. Last, just a bit of feedback on your presentation. If you could stop moving your hands so much, that would make watching much easier. Thanks.
Thank You for your insightful review and deep dive into Astral Weeks. There is like a spiritual connection with those us who experience this album on another level. This was the first album that took me to another place. I always enjoy listening to someone else’s experience when they have that connection with this album.
I’ve been playing the track astral weeks basically on repeat for the past few months, and now I’m playing the whole album. I’m glad there is a small community I can find that also recognizes the grace and majesty of this piece of work. I’m am forever changed and I feel like I’ve been running towards this point forever
Having returned from Vietnam the year before, I was in a search for meaning phase of my life. I bought the Astral Weeks album (I still have it) and played it and played it and played it. The stream of his words overwhelmed me and the music just seemed to settle my soul. Sometimes I was stoned but wasn't always. When the album was playing it held my attention and the rest of the world's didn't. It's the most incredible work of music in my time. BTW - it was the members of the Modern Jazz Quartet who played the music. Thanks for giving some meaning to this performance, that I hadn't realized.
I just became a subscriber because I love your passion for music. I was searching RUclips for thoughts about Aretha Franklin‘s live album when I came across your video. Well done. This one is also well done, and I’m going to go listen to this album now like I’ve never listened to it before. One thing that’s interesting is how many truth claims you made about the universe and knowing God etc. while saying that everything outside of us our tiny little minds can’t understand. That kind of contradiction couldn’t satisfy me in the slightest. I’m grateful to God that though I don’t know everything, I have revelation from Him who does know everything. And so do you my friend. :-) He has revealed Himself, and His purposes for mankind and the rest of His creation in Scripture. Thank you for your channel. I’m going to be doing a head dive into it, I can tell already. :)
Hey Sociology Prof! I have a liberal arts degree from the 1980s-never took a sociology class. Though I think I probably read 50% of the books you might list on a required reading list. Astral Weeks... Tupelo Honey... Hymns to the Silence (though this was a CD release) Van the Man-loosing ground? OMG! He is my Irish Bob Dylan. I have two BANG records that I treasure: Van Morrison's Greatest Hits; Neil Young's Double Gold. My suggestion for the U2 LPs for this list: Rattle & Hum and Joshua Tree, in that order. Hmmm... save the 'god' stuff for 'All Things Must Pass,' 'Delaney & Bonney & Friends,' etc.
Thanks for your break down of this album. I am pretty excited as I have just purchased a record player and astral weeks is going to be my first vinyl purchase in years 😀
We do know what happens when we die, and we do know why the world was created. This album is so incredibly powerful because it expresses the beauty and mystery of God’s creation, it is an awe-inspiring masterpiece, in part because the album itself is awed before creation.
You and I (and many others) are on the same wavelength. When I first heard Astral Weeks, I thought Van Morrison really gets it. Into the Mystic we go. Yes, and James Joyce and yes! And Yates, too and Alan Watts. And William James and Yes. Let's throw Jung in there, too. And, don't forget Aldous Huxley.
Absolutely love this album but really hate when people say that any album is an album you must have in your collection. The only albums you must have are the ones you like.
Hello Randy. I think that this was an incredibly special album review. Looking forward to more. Your channel is awesome. Is there anyway to get your contact info?
I listened to it over 50 years ago and it just passed me by. I've heard bits and bobs of it over the years, and it still didn't mean much. So after just watching this I decided to listen to the whole album again. It's crap!
What a shame you are so complacent about your own moral worth. ‘Van morrison’ being unkool- from a left wing sociology lecturer talk about schadenfreude. Bono is a national embarrassment here in Ireland, a fact which seems to have passed you by
This made me laugh, did you smoke a pipe of grass beforehand? - Sure Astral weeks is a good album and like many great songs it can be dually about something small and specific and simultaneously the universal. But teaching us about God.... ok. lol.
Best Album of all time. The most profound spiritual experience I’ve ever had is every time I listen with my eyes closed and let myself go.
Amen

Nice, you are back… love Astral Weeks.
Holy shit, I was wondering what happened to you guys. I've probably bought 100 albums since your last video! Good to have you back.
This is brilliant - glad I found you.

I have never understood the greatness of Astral Weeks. Thank you for your stories, here. I will give it another listen based upon your insights.
I recommend smoking a little something before hand on a sunny day.
Was it Bono who said "If there are 10 musical genius from Mozart to Beethoven Van is one of them"
This is a valuable insight.
Are you still drinking the mRNA Kool Aid, Mr Professor?
Interesting! Thanks very much.

Moondance by Morrison is also great. Welcome to the vinyl life! 👍
Wow. Great story and supplemental info. 👏 👍
Van's not the only one against the for-profit vaccines. Why are you on Facebook? is a valid question.
More hugs!

Sweet Thing. But that's probably not what you're referring to. Cheers to Bloody Mary's at Vickery's!
Van is right!
Bless your heart.
Hey…Van’s back on top!🎉
the album deserves hours
agreed
Van the Man 2024AD
Van Morrison is a critical thinker. Maybe you should try it. And stop making money off other people's talent. Mr not cool
Hugs!
Do you know who James Hunt is?
No.

This album is absolute meandering nonsense. Garbage. Listen to Dylan during this period he’s a million times better with actual melodies.
I love opinions.
