- Erika Henningsen gives a breakout starring performance as Cady Heron in Tina Fey's hit Broadway musical adaptation of the iconic film MEAN GIRLS.
She recently dropped by the studio to unleash her full vocal range and perform three musical dream roles off her Broadway Bucket List. Watch as Erika sings from Merrily We Roll Along, The Most Happy Fella, and The Baker’s Wife.

Hello soprano voice! That came out of nowhere. She’s so great as Cady Heron but her voice can do so much more. This was so good.

After the first song, I was thinking how well her voice would go with Meadowlark and than she sung it!
I didn't expect her voice to have such a classic theatre quality. This video is probably the perfect letter of recommendation for yourself. She shows off not only her range, vocal abilities and acting skills, but also her excellent musical intuition. I would totally see her play Maria in West Side Story, or even Glinda in Wicked. With a voice like that the possibilities are endless.

I'm looking at doing Meadowlark and somebody somewhere for college auditions but I am worried they don't contrast enough. What are your thoughts on it?
@@BIRDWITCHE It depends how you present them. You could sing them quite similarly, but I don't think the songs ask for that approached. They both have very different characters to it and you can definitely highlight that. She probably picked them because they complement her voice, so I guess they go well together. Good luck!
@@ClipsByLaura thank you, that's what I was thinking, but I still was worried I was too close. I can always do a huge dark contrasting monologue that might help my case. This helped me decide, thanks!

I think it is so impressive how bold and clear her voice is despite keeping her mouth so closed. I think it is one reason that Erika specifically is so good at fluidly transitioning from her speaking voice to her chest voice.
I noticed that some musical theater singers sing this way, with very little space in their oropharynx. How? And she makes it seem so easy 😮

This rendition of Now You Know is the most impressive thing I've ever heard. It's like if Elaine Strich and Barbara Cook got combined in a teleportation mishap.
Fun tact: if I remember correctly, the character singing Now You Know (the curtain song in Act One) was a thinly veiled portrait of Dorothy Parker in the original 1934 play.
Would've loved to see her as Anastasia on Broadway, I think she would do really well and bring something new to the character. She has this airy, princess aura that Christy Altomare has and I am just realizing it now!

She has such a gorgeous voice!! I kind of overlooked her in Mean Girls since all the other girls have better songs written for their characters. I obviously feel dumb now haha I just feel like Cady's songs didn't stand out as much as say "Till someone gets hurt" or "I'd rather be me"...
