I am in my late 50s and what dismays me the most is very expensive furniture that is made with particle board, mdf, and veneers! If I am paying premium, or near premium prices, I want the quality of real wood, not something that won’t last or that will be ruined and can’t be refinished of something wet gets on it, or that scratches from light use. I tend towards more traditional pieces, I guess, but do love some of the transitional and a little more modern thrown in, love dark wood, antique gold or oil rubbed bronze, greens, blues, creams, with a little brown thrown in…nature’s palette…no gray or beige for me, though, please. For tables I like the center pedestal either with beautiful wood, stone, or marble tops. I even liked the modern table at 17:41 but I likely wouldn’t purchase it because I think it would be perfect for a casual dining area in a home overlooking a lake, or the mountains, or some sort of spectacular nature scenery and I don’t have that. It’s not what I would choose for a dining room in a suburban home, although I am sure it could work there, too. But, even that very expensive table is using veneers! Arhaus has a lot of things I like, even though I think they would be considered modern, because I like the juxtaposition of wood, metal, and stone. I also like the “Duncan Phyfe” style legs, but want them centered, not 2 pairs off to the sides. Give me comfortable dining chairs, not hard wood seats or uncomfortable shapes. I don’t see a lot these days that meets my style and quality standards, and especially not at what I consider reasonable for the quality, prices. I am not a fan of the light wood, blocky-shapes of a lot of the Pottery Barn pieces, but I guess a lot of millennials are because that’s what so many manufacturers are putting out. (Just to clarify, Pottery Barn does have other things I enjoy a lot). I also don’t want the over the top modern pieces, either. But I can see styles I like, and, as I already said, the quality is missing even in the expensive pieces.

Hi Suzanne, and enjoy your weekend! 😊 I realize some are, but I'm not a fan of any furniture, chunky nor heavy, and my Mama knows I say no thanks to any of hers passed down to me ☺️ As I've aged, its just too much! Love light and easy, accessible furniture and lovely tablescapes however 🙌!! Plus easier to clean it and under.
I like mix and match. It just works!
I'm definitely eclectic 🥰 I paint my own artwork, which I live in. Cheers dear. Thanks.

I always enjoy your videos. Thank you. I was wondering if you could share your experience with furniture manufacturing and pricing. I went furniture shopping over the past year with a friend in need of new furniture in Southern California where I live and was shocked at the prices. The furniture stores we visited had sofas and ranged from 10k to 30k-plus plus. It was so interesting to learn from the sales people about the different styles of sofas, etc.

Kirklands smells so strong and everything you bring home smells the same way! I had to return a large art peice because of the smell.

I don't know how others feel but I'm really bored with Pottery Barn, neutral, cookie cutter interiors and the utter impersonality of interior design these days. I look at Traditional Home and Southern Home magazines and a few others and see gorgeous colored walls and beautiful woodstained furniture. The depth of these homes ooze warmth and a feeling of solid security. I do not dislike Pottery Barn but the brand has really stiflled creativity and their decor is really not that well made to justify their price points. Anyway, I do enjoy the videos sometimes and adding a touch of current design decor does lift up a home.

Hi! I’m hope u liked the rooms later in the video then! It’s good that you know your style…you are lucky… a lot of people just can’t decide…which can lead to wasteful purchases. Keep watching, K?

@@happiestplace Yes, I will. It's hard for decorators to turn the tide, especially when we have a generation trained to follow instead of lead. Interior design is not the only industry having difficulty finding people of imagination and creativity. I know you are fighting that same battle. Have a Happy Easter.

*Observations* . I have a 1300sq.ft., semi-open concept, cottage style ranch. My dining area is adjacent to the kitchen, an approx. 10.5x10 sq.ft. space. I have an 80x36 trestle table in that space and love it. I have three slip covered parson's chairs on each side. As this is a focal spot from the front door, I always do table top styling and it's a "No Drop Zone". My "go-to" is pedestal arrangement in the center flanked with candlesticks with or without hurricanes or a long rectangular centerpiece on a tray (for easy removal). I saw many asymmetrical stylings with hurricanes from PB. I like the look but my "traditional" side likes symmetry. I like a large statement arrangement over the busy multiple layered look. I have three sets of chair covers and multiple tablecloths to suit seasonal re-freshes. I enjoy your LOOKBOOK videos, it's interesting to see different styling options with color, pattern, and textures. Thank You.
