The 16mm F1.4 is still an excellent lens. The close focus is what shocked me when I tested it and still love using it for unique shots.
Ya that close focusing distance is my favourite! So fun to use
I sold mine and recently bought the f2.8 version. Happy with the smaller f2.8 and it is on the list for resolving on the X-T5.

Bought this after watching a video from the “Angry Photographer”. One of the best lenses ever IMO (for the 26mp sensors). If you haven’t, you should also try the Zeiss Touit 32mm, it’s AMAZING!
I would love to try the Zeiss, I’m looking around and I can’t find anything in these parts of the country.
On the 26mp sensor anyway . . . !

Really loved this lens when i first got it. End up selling it once i got the 18mm 1.4 just b/c of how much better it was in almost every way.
Do miss the clutch manual focus system on the 16mm and wish it was brought to the more modern lens.

Still my favorite fuji lens! I bought it when the new 18mm was already available. Things like sharpness and fast autofocus don't make a picture better. It's about how the result makes you feel.
Never had the pleasure of testing this - but I guess if your default editing style is a softer look, half the job is already done sooc. But I guess its better to soften in post and ahve the best possible image q to start with. The new f1.4 lenses are stellar though. Currently getting used to the 33mm f1.4. So much fun, but always feels a bit odd switching from old favs. PS: Fujis lens sizes are at least a lot less smaller than their full frame brothers and sisters. To me thats a huge deal for travel and all that good stuff. Cheers for the video - and cool to see the progression in video q compared to that first review, he he.
Ya! Been traveling around to different European cities and it made me realize that I need to go smaller with my kit! This 16mm is huge! The 33mm is a decent enough size for travel but that would probably be the max size for what I want to carry walking around the city. Glad you’re enjoying it.
I've used the 16mm f1.4 on the XT5 and got great results.
I have to say I'm a little puzzled at this review.
Is this a lens you've had for a while or one you hired or were lent to try it out.
What I'm saying is could there be a fault with the lens itself?

It’s still a very nice lens. I don’t think most people print their photos so gigantic or pixel peep to really notice if it fully resolves the new larger sensor. It still renders very nicely on my XH2 with a filmic fall off that a lot of lenses can’t achieve. It also focuses really close. To me it’s just a question to me whether the lens is too big for you, which forces you to compromise on a smaller lens that only opens 2.8. In the looks dept, it’s chunky and looks very good on most camera bodies and his fun to shoot with.

Appreciate your ohnesty, and looking back in time to see how the old lens works on the new gear. It's always a risk to try something out of the normal kit you'd choose. It's worthwhile though. Thanks for sharing your experience.
That hairdo was because of the pandemic. Everything was shut down I couldn’t get a haircut so it just grew… 😂

I recently swapped to the Viltrox 13mm F1.4 after I felt I wasn’t super happy with the 16mm F1.4 results on my X-T5. Highly recommend. And I bought it after watching your review on it!

Bro, I was looking into picking this up until you compared it Jeff Hardy. Completely connected the dots for me. I’m a huge wrestling fan and it made so much sense.
If you want aew Jeff hardy get this lens and use it on a 40mp sensor… but if you want the greatest hits Jeff hardy you gotta use the 26 mp sensors 😄😂
I used X T 5 with 16MM F. 1.4 but I dont understand why people say it does not resolve 40 megapixel. The lens might be slow and older then previous. Camera sensor gives the quality of the pixel. and not the lens. You just cant tell the difference. 16 mm is still amazing lens.
nah the resolving power isn't there man, but it's cool that you enjoy it and that's all that matters imo.
I’m so glad these older lenses are being overshadowed due to the high megapixel sensors. They will only get cheaper, and I’m perfectly satisfied with 26mp or lower. It’s funny how so many RUclips photographers obsess over vintage lenses for their softness and flaws.
100% honest. Love it. I have the experience with the original 56 f1.2 and the 18mm f2… and I feel sorry about them as well. Really good but… not capable enough with the XT5 :(
I hope they make versions that are able to resolve 40mp

Thank you for this informative video. I own this lens and have always been happy to use it with my FujiFilm X-T4 at the time. I tried it couple of times on my new X-T5, and honestly, found the lens to have a bit of character. As Leica shooter as well, pixel peeping is not important for me. The end results are more important. I have the smaller 16mm f2.8 as well, it is sharper, but I have never enjoyed using it similar to the f1.4 version. This is a legendary lens.

I've had to get this lens recalibrated before as its focus was off, not saying this is the case with yours, but it can happen.
This lens in Single focus is great and it's the only bright aperture auto option for Fuji at this focal length. It has an overall great rendering look and you can be wildly creative with it for photo or video use. Close focus is absolute clutch on this.
But alas, I'm using this on an X-T2/X-E3. Easily one of my favourite lenses and let the 35 1.4 go before this one. Regarding sharpness of these old lenses, would be interesting to see how the 60mm F2.4 fairs, that lens is right up there with the 35mm F1.4 in characteristic render quality, but can be bitingly sharp as well.
I got too many lenses to test and only one me. I want to test the 60mm as well I think it was you that said that this lens is special but only if I can snag one for a good deal. Being a small content creator I don’t have the budget to constantly go out and get the lenses whenever I want. I have to be strategic with it! 😭😆

I'm really happy with the 16mm f2.8, really good, fast, silent and crazy small. I bought it used from a local store. I know it is not a 1.4 if you want to use it for low light. I wonder if RUclips is censoring your final "I love you" because we can't see it anymore. Just add a 3 second blank screen. Don't know why they chopped a few seconds from your videos.

This lens just shows what a great job Fuji's done on the 18 mm 1.4 lm wr, because it's a smaller lens with outstanding optical performance. I had a 16 mm 2.8 lens and it seemed very boring to me (the 23 mm 2.0 gave much more interesting look, for example), but when stopped down it would get the job done. Eventually I replaced it with the 18 mm 1.4 and I enjoy it a lot more, including the focal length preference.
Everyone had nice things to say about the 18mm f1.4 but I was very lukewarm with it. I think it’s time for me to revisit it and give it another chance.
Please revisit 18mm 1.4 as well tongue senpai!

Ultimate sharpness and pixel peeping do not make for a great photo. Lens are tools used to express your vision. I happen to think this is a special lens.
Yes on the older cameras. I have no problem using this lens
I own this lens. It's far from my most used lens but whenever I slap it on I'm always really happy with the results. In fact a disproportionate number of my real zingers seem to come from this lens. If I couldn't get good results with a lens of this caliber I'm not sure I'd want to broadcast the fact.
Can you clarify what you mean by “broadcast the fact” are you saying I shouldn’t have shared my experiences of because they weren’t so great on the XT5 ?
@@Iamtongue I haven't used this lens on a 40mp sensor so I'm hesitant to say you're wrong but I would be stunned if this lens suddenly turned into a mushy, aberration filled nightmare because of some extra megapixels. If I didn't like the results I was getting with it I'm not sure I would blame the lens. It's not perfect and there's better lenses out there (arguably) but I think it's a touch misleading to say it's too dated or crap to consider relevant.
@@thomashill5768 You know what I I felt the same way when fujifilm released that list of incompatible lenses for the 40mp sensor. But that’s cool man I can only talk about my findings. That’s the beauty of the internet and this RUclips space you’re going to have a variety of opinions. So let’s just agree to disagree. Obviously I’m gonna suggest you find out for yourself since you haven’t used the 40mp sensor yet. Judging by a few comments here, there are some people that share the same sentiment.

it's awesome on my XH2S's. This lens is legendary, such a shame to see the new sensor cripple it. It's one thing for the new sensor to have lenses that can't take advantage of it, it's quite another when the sensor just RUINS the lens entirely. WTH Fuji...
XH2S's might be my final Fuji camera, I want them to stop this 40mp nonsense, or at least give the option to toggle megapixel output like Leica does (if that even fixes the issue).
I love wide angle lenses like this because it makes my ding dong look bigger!

I don't see the 3D pop with this lens unfortunately.
I've had this lens for years and only use it for some street and metro station shots on my X-Pro2. P.S. Whenever I hand this to a girl they often comment on how large and girthy it is. (Insert GIF here...)

Foolish to be smelling the pictures. Nobody will see any difference watching normally the pictures.
The lens still works pretty great with the XH2s.
it works great because it's on a 26 megapixel stacked sensor.
I notice the difference, and that's what matters to me. I don't see what the problem is, if someone likes to enlarge an image to see it completely sharpened.

Al that megapixel matter only in huge prints, and thats a very close call.
The new 40mp sensor is destroying quite a few Fuji dream lenses. Ive been trying some of my vintage lenses on the new 40mp sensor and it destroys them unusable. I still think the lower resolution sensors are more desirable overall. Still have my Xt-2 and it renders beautiful with old and new lenses. Its to bad the pixel peeping marking will not allow manufactures to go back to more common sense megapixels for the format.

this lens gets so much love, I owned it and I just dont get it. It sucks ass. Dont like it at all, also the aperture ring beeing lose, the focus clutch engaging.
I love the 24mm eq focal, but nothing to see here on fuji. With all the online love for this lens, I was hoping a lot more when coming from sony.
I need my 24/ 50 super combo for 80% what I shoot.
33 is perfect, waiting for a new 16 from fuji, they can kill this one with fire.
karakter lenses fine, give people that want it their weird lenses. Give me at least a taste of perfection in (center) sharpeness. The rest i dont care about. This lens was not that great even on my xt3, I believe I sold it before I even got my XT5. mehhhh. The 24 GM and the ART lens for sony FE are so much better than this lens. crop mode and you got your 35-ish f2... purrrrrfect!

keeping my xt5 with 16-55 and the 33, the rest is for the fuji lovers, going back to sony for pro work. tammy boy 35-150 and the 24 + 50 is all I need!
