In November 2019 a 5-yr-old Australian born and trained gelding was forced to race at Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong. His leg snapped and he was killed.
This horse was originally named Pure Luck. He was raced four times in Queensland under trainer Ben Currie throughout 2016/17. Currie has since been charged with "intended use" of electric shock devices on horses and doping over the time Pure Luck was under his control.
Pure Luck was since exported to Hong Kong and underwent a name change to Voyage King. Here he was raced heavily, his owners accumulating over $900,000 from his exploitation.
In May of 2019 he was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both front fetlocks. In September he was found to have substantial blood in his trachea after racing. In November his front leg snapped on the racecourse whilst he was being beaten with a whip toward the finish line and he was killed.
Australia failed this horse and Hong Kong failed this horse.

They are born for money, trained and drugged to run at unnatural speeds. They race for 3 or so years and then are slaughtered like a fly in your kitchen.
This is the story of thousands of horses. Although horses are not common pets, they are just as intelligent as an average dog or cat and can have unbreakable bonds with other animals and people. They are also able to feel the same emotions as your household pet. So what if I told you that horses were being abused into running? What if I told you that this happens all because of horse racing?
Let’s look at the dark side of horse racing, the side nobody is willing to accept as being a problem. There are two things that are a problem with horse racing, first, horses are abused. Second, unwanted racehorses are slaughtered. After I explain that we will then look at the impact.
Let's first look at why they are abused. Horse racing is the act of making horses outrun other horses to win races. Why is this a problem? According to Pamelyn Ferdin, “Horses used for racing are forced to sprint-often under the threat of whips and even illegal electric-shocking devices-at speeds so fast that they frequently sustain injuries and even hemorrhage from the lungs.” For some, this is a must, they use whips and electric-shocking devices to make their horses run faster. And this causes injuries. According to horsey hooves, “While not all racehorses suffer, incidents of suffering are inevitable in the racing industry. Galloping at high speeds is an intense exercise that carries a high risk of injury, trauma and death.'' As this evidence shows, horse racing hurts horses, even if it's unintentional.
Another reason it is abuse is they are forced to race to their graves. The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals or for short PETA said in a paragraph titled ‘Racing to the grave’, “Horses begin training or are already racing when their skeletal systems are still growing and are unprepared to handle the pressures of running on a hard track at high speeds. Between 700 and 800 racehorses are injured and die every year. According to The Jockey Club’s Equine Injury Database, nearly 10 horses died every week at American racetracks in 2018. At Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, 37 horses died within a year, causing 77the Los Angeles District Attorney to conduct the first-ever criminal investigation into the culpability of trainers and veterinarians who medicate horses for soreness and injury and then put them on the track. Strained tendons or hairline fractures can be tough for veterinarians to diagnose, and the damage may go from minor to irreversible at the next race or workout. Horses do not handle surgery well, as they tend to be disoriented when coming out of anesthesia, and they may fight casts or slings, possibly causing further injury. Many are euthanized in order to save the owners further veterinary fees and other expenses for horses who will never race again.” How would you feel if you had to put your dog or cat down because you did not want to pay the fee to treat them? This is a problem. Racehorse companies do not want to spend the money because the horse will not race again.
Another way that it is abuse, is horses die. According to Humane Decisions, “Owners, veterinarians and race officials lack accountability, responsibility, and integrity and it’s reflected at all levels of horse racing today. Racehorses are subject to DEEP suffering-they are forced to endure chronic pain, run while injured, are shot full of illegal drugs to mask injury, and as a result, suffer from drug overdose and addiction, then, they are killed when they fall or are injured, or can no longer run, or don’t win. They are SIMPLY disposed of like waste.” Owners lack accountability because they don't take responsibility for the fact that hundreds of horses are dying because of their actions. One example of this is, in a common practice, called an Under Tack Show. 2-year-old horses, who are not even physically mature yet, are forced to run at speeds that exceed any speed they will ever run in their future career. They do this to sell them to possible buyers. One filly who was forced to do this was sprinting as fast as she could be beaten into doing. Due to the stress her legs were under, the lower bone of her front leg shattered. Bone fragments were shot in all directions. Witnesses described it as sounding like a gunshot. The young horse was still running, but the leg that shattered was limp. As her body tried to hold its weight on only three legs, her other leg gave out, doing the same, shattering. She then started sliding in the dirt. The rider was thrown, and she was euthanized on the spot. Imagine the pain she felt. We all know it would be excruciating to have a leg bone shatter, let alone two. Imagine if this happened to your pet. How would you feel? Most importantly, how would your pet feel? According to Wave 3 news, “Nearly 400 thoroughbreds suffered fatal injuries while racing in 2021.” Let's compare that to other sports, can you imagine what would happen if this were the case for other famous sports?
The second reason why horse racing is a problem is that unwanted racehorses are slaughtered. But why is this a problem? Imagine if dog breeders decided that because a puppy did not meet the requirements to be perfect, he was killed. Breeders don't do this. Because it is cruel. But what if I told you this is the reality for racehorses. According to the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, “approximately 75,000 thoroughbreds are slaughtered for human consumption each year.” That is 75,000 lives that are taken because they did not meet the expectations for racing. Once a racehorse retires it is deemed to go to the slaughterhouse because there is no other use for them. According to Pamelyn Ferdin, “Horses who weigh at least 1,000 pounds are supported by ankles the size of a human’s and are forced to run around dirt tracks at speeds of more than 30 miles an hour while carrying a rider on their backs. Celebrated filly Eight Belles was euthanized on the track after breaking both front ankles during the 2008 Kentucky Derby; her poor ankles couldn’t sustain her running that fast.” The racing industry is built on money greed and horse abuse. This is the horse racing dark side.
One famous racehorse named Ferdinand, was sent to slaughter in 2002 because he had finished his “job". He was slaughtered in Japan and made into meat. 90% of all horses that are slaughtered in Japan are race horses. That 90% were once foals bred for the sole purpose of making money, and because they were not needed, they were killed. This is an example of unwanted race horses being slaughtered.
Oftentimes, unwanted race horses being sent to slaughter are transported inhumanly. Even though horse slaughter houses have been closed in America, racehorses are being trucked over the border to Canada and Mexico. This makes the horses suffering even worse. If a horse collapses in the trailer, it is left there to suffer, get trampled on by other horses, and DIE. The horses being shipped are not given water or food. At all. They are treated just like items and commodities. The horses are shoved and packed tightly in these trailers and are transported in any weather; with no regard that they are transporting living animals. Imagine if your pet was transported in this manner. How would you feel? And most importantly, how would your pet feel?
Why should this matter to all of us? Well, not everything is shown in truth. Sometimes things can seem like they are harmless, and sometimes fun. But if you REALLY look into things, you may find that they aren't always as they seem. When I found out what happens in horse racing, I was sick. I was appalled to find that this was happening right under everyone's noses. This is why I wrote this speech. To spread the truth, not the false reality that horse racing is not harmful. Proverbs 12:10, “the righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.” What can be the solution to all of this? I know that there needs to be a lot of changes made to horse racing to make it ethical. So the more people that hear about this speech, the better.
To conclude, horse racing is something that is not all fun and games. Horse racing is harmful to horses and it should not be supported. For all of the reasons that I have stated, there is a dark side to horse racing. Because it is horse abuse and unwanted racehorses are slaughtered. This matters to all of the abused and drugged horses that are being mistreated all in the name of racing. "

Horse probably had a lot of adrenaline from the race, the full effect of pain would not be felt for long until the vets euthanized it. Rarely will they give owners a choice to rehabilitate, though sometimes they will in the usa. Most likely a preventable break, trainer must have run on long feet, poor track quality, or leg was already compromised.
Most people don’t understand how well those horses are treated and if is not forcing them it’s a simple sine of freedom for them think about how you wold treat your self if you one 100 million bucks and the double that and that is how well they treat the horses

Horses also break their legs in fields while not being ridden. It happens to wild horses too. Months ago my horse broke his leg by running in the field, horse racing isn’t abused, parts of horse racing is abuse. Horse racing is not the only discipline that has abuse, every time of riding discipline have abuse
I had a horse for years that one day owned itself by sticking its foot a weird way in a fence. I know a horse that died from breaking its leg during being walked on a halter and just spooking in a weird way where it tripped on itself. This was an unfortunate accident.

My fathers horse, who was famous for winning each race in our county, (made him very wealthy actually).
But anyways, he was bringing water to the coral, when he saw her laying on the ground, breathing heavily. He spotted a snake next to her, crushed to death, and blood coming out of the horses leg, it was drying up, meaning the horse had been suffering for a while. There was not much else to do, but he sat next to the horse, with her head on his lap, comforting it until it took its last breath. He has her ashes in his living room, next to a picture frame of her after she won a race, her name was “La Muerte” meaning “ Death” in English.
My uncle had a few horses over a 25 year period , 1 or 2 at a time ( usually 1 ) as he trained them himself aswell as being the owner & the same thing happened to the best mayor he ever owned , a real champion after not much success . She had retired & had a foal when she rolled over on a snake frollicking in a paddock , snake was dead but she was bit several times & also died , the foal a male had a good career aswell but his mum was one of the best in the nation at her peak . This pisses me of so much the rider didn’t do I single thing to help that horse. He didn’t make him lie down. He didn’t take his tack of. He didn’t even comfort him. Every horse that isn't good enough is shipped off to slaughter the moment they can't make money for their "owners". All that the owners care about it gaining money :(
Often times the horses are pushed so far they bleed in their lungs or get lethal heart problems. Horse racing kills, and in the most horrendous ways. The industry tries it's best to hide it all away and play the dumb unknowing idiot but there is proof they can't deny.
Thankfully the popularity of it is rapidly declining and will wither and die.
Remember, nobody wants to be forced to run for their lives, or get hit and drugged and frightened to do so. The horses don't give their consent to compete. It's glorified torture.

Rousie_ Duo but they are wanted when they are older , for example they go to stud, into dressage and show jumping after , quite a few owners have set up re homing programs and things for the horses after racing

I know that not all horse racing stables are abusive, but most of it is and something needs to be done. At least 95% of horse racing is abusive and absurd. And its ridiculous on how many people is actually okay with abusive racing. In my opinion, it's either the rules and ways of training need to change OR horse racing should be illegal. Either way, something needs to be changed. Stuff likes this breaks my heart.
