My theory on the conversation Gotenks and Piccolo had about showmanship and making an interesting flight was more conversation between Toriyama and his editor about all the wacky gag moves that Toriyama had fun making for Gotenks.

Every time they fused Gotenks screwed up because Trunks wanted to put on a show, its so ironic knowing how his future counterpart turned out, but it makes sense seeing he was raised by Vegeta
