This Ted Talk needs more views indeed! Yvonne's concepts of re-imagining dementia is what is very much needed to move forward. Currently there is no cure for dementia. We can't wait until there is, there is life to be lived and all deserve a quality of life while living with this unforgiving disease.
Well I’m living in a elder care hospital and I don’t think I am demented. But I do have to point that out to the caregivers about every two weeks. I have to get cross and unpleasant with things that are being poorly done. I have to ignore puerile directions that are irrelevant like put on your shoes. I have to ask for help regularly or the caregivers feel neglected. It’s a constant rebalancing between getting the care I really need and refusing to enter the tender trap of allowing myself to “be done to” when I can really do something for myself. I try always to explain when accepting help that my request is a temporary thing and that I always have it under review.
