I really do love seeing the trial and error process. It’s so interesting to watch you try a new technique, realize it didn’t quite go as you anticipated and try again in the next case. I actually still really like this piece, even though some of the colors got scraped away a bit. It still feels balanced and I’d honestly have thought it was intentional if you hadn’t explained your goal for the piece.
I think it would be cool if you did a longer form video showing the process in real (ish) time, even including the firing/finished product if possible. It could be ASMR style so you wouldn’t have to do narration. Just an idea!
it's frustrating to have a vision in your head but the material and tools have another plan. hopefully, you're pleasantly surprised with the outcome, most of the time. i'm happy to see your progress on this technique and thankful for your insights.
Everything is an experiment and learning about materials. I like the vase. Perhaps an area to play with is to consider the speed and direction of the wheel and how that impacts the distribution of the colored clay. Then test and note the differences that each tool makes. The centrifical force will always alter the pattern as well a s what tool you use.
It looks to me like the pattern hung on really well. I'm not sure if you consider this a fail, but I believe that it came through beautifully! Do you ever make pieces for people that let you know what they would like as in colors and shape?
