Good video, but... it is outdated to the point there is misinformation in it. There needs to be mention of the TRUST testing now required to fly as a hobbyist and transponder requirements that are coming. The FCC keeps changing/updating the rules and we need to make sure that the information is both accurate and current.
I was going to take the part 107 test until i found out the cost. Not so much that I wanted to fly commercially but to prove I had a basic understanding of drone safety since we fly near an airport that is in Class G and someday someone is going to question our presence.
"Can't fly over people"??? What if I'm flying as a hobbyist and for recreation at a park with my kids, and some people started walking through the park under my line-of-sight area (people do congrogate at parks, you know!!)? What am I supposed to do?
Hi Steven, you can do several things. I would keep an eye on them as I fly and if they start getting close, I would fly somewhere else. I would try to avoid areas where people congregate (easier said than done). If I'm doing a commercial job, I place cones to delineate an area. I've had to record an entire course once at a park and people loved to come nearby so I had to wait several times or even land to avoid flying over them.
2019 USC Title 49, Subtitle VII, Part A, Subpart iii, Chapter 448, § 448409(a)(6) states: "In Class G airspace [UNRESTRICTED], the aircraft is flown from the surface of not more than 400' above ground level [AGL] & complies with all airspace restrictions & prohibitions." Manufacturers (e.g., DJI et. al.) will likely begin enforcing the 400' ceiling within the drone software apps, as they already do with the NFZs. What crock of BS from the Airspace Nazis...

The difficult thing is to measure distance above the ground so I doubt DJI will put that in place. If there's a hill, you have to be able to be 400 feet above the hill, currently there's no technology to do that on consumer drones.
@@PilotInstitute, to eliminate any ambiguity & close any loopholes, the FAA will soon establish/define the distance of 400' measured from the ground directly beneath the drone vertically up to the drone, at any given time... which could be easily established from the flight data, reference points, etc. The sheeple are soo stupid for electing the bastards, who foist these BS draconian laws upon the citizenry...
Great presentation. Very nicely clarifies a number of points. Thanks!
Thank you, George!

This was very helpful. Thank you! I've also been watching your videos on the Pilot Institute website.
Your videos are great! Does not surprise me your subscribers keep climbing!
Thank you my friend!

Bob, knowledge is power. If you don't need the certificate, just learn all you can about it. It is not wasted knowledge for sure!

If I'm putting the videos on RUclips not monetizing them is that considered recreational
Correct!
Well done, thank you.
Thank youm, JE

Just more fricking government regulation. It's getting worse and worse.
