As an INFJ, I enjoy being empathetic and warm to people, I just wish that others would do the same for me. Gets tiring not having my efforts be reciprocated and I feel like people take me and my kindness for granted...
@@talkingtoawall5123 same, one of the best close friends I've ever had is an infj. Well.., she can be a bit judgy at times but other than that, I like how she's straightforward because it gets awkward when the other person is uncomfortable 😂
Their ability to just go ahead and express their emotions is fascinating. Every emotion I show (if I even show emotions) is calculated according to the "room" and social standards.
@@DeboraCardoso_ I agree!! As an INFP I find INFJs very cool. But my INFJ friend hatessss my Si😭😂 when I start talking abt my past he's like ....??😐😐 and omg in the beginning of our friendship I asked "do you have any fond childhood memories you'd like to share?" And he actually said "um, well I remember a red doorknob..." BAHHAHA. And that's after I talked in detail abt some memories i could recall from when I was an infant all the way to the end of my childhood so abt 10 yrs old. And one thing I I don't really like about him is how clingy he is. And I say this as a clingy person. Maybe not all INFJs are like him, I think he's a bit extreme... he has had some trauma in the past so that might affect how clingy he is. if I don't text him one day he will miss me SO MUCH and he will either be cold and distant or rlly sad the next day. And that makes me feel so bad because I want to be there for him but I also need my own space. But honestly, he is the sweetest guy I've ever met, and we just... get each other. He is truly amazing.
I'm an INFJ, and it all hit home, especially the last clip where he's asking if he said too much and she immediately started reflecting back what he said and reassuring him that it was okay. It's like stepping outside of my body and seeing how I interact with others. It's pretty much identical. Freaky.
I'm INFJ. I love seeing someone talk passionately about something. It's like I can feel their passion. I might not like what they like but seeing that enthusiasm just makes me happy
@Banana Power An INFJ will only truly agree with you, if both Fe and Ti are satisfied. So we can agree on the same "issues", even be on the same side of the argument, but if you expressed it in an irrational/illogical and indiscriminate way, we'll have no problem dismantling your statement.
Wow as an INFJ I didn't even realize that the "soothing" and "face-saving" thing was an INFJ trait. I tend to "interpret" people's thoughts A LOT. hahah As someone who hates being misunderstood, I also would hate for others to be misunderstood. Therefore, making sure everything is said and communicated precisely as intended is very important to me.
what you say about being misunderstood is sooo true. as an infj the idea of someone thinking im lying when im genuinely not is terrifying to me. i think sometimes then i can come across as too defensive when really i just want people to understand what im saying as i intended it.
I'm an INFP and I saw a LOT of myself in Garfield. If you give me a topic that I'm passionate about I will go off the rails on a tangent with all my thoughts and emotions right out in the open. Then I'll pause and be like "uh... so yeah thanks for listening to me ramble for five minutes, how was your day?" XD By the way I totally agree with Garfield, the arts need just as much respect as math or science. Art is just as important to our world as any other subject and it's a crime that it's so underplayed in the curriculum. A lot of creative kids just get squashed by the system and their talents are sucked dry from the daily grind of mathematical tedium. At least, that's how it was for me, I detest math. Typical INFP ;P
Rachel Wood Here's the problem though, by saying science is more important than art subjects. It creates this narrative that's imposed in a lot of schools where science and math are the ONLY subjects that kids should be learning if they want happiness and succeed in life. People don't need to know the chemical reactions of water to fucking drink it. Art is a field that should be taken VERY seriously since everything around us has been in inspired by an art form of some sort. Look at your computer designs, your clothes, the way you phone plays music, the marketing, our movies, our learning books. Art is everywhere and people say it "should not" be taken seriously, give me a break
Valentina G. I don't know sister, there's not a moment in my 23 years of life where I had to use trigonometry to work out a problem. I'm sure you're the same
Fi and Fe while watching a sad video Fi: gets emotional and focus on their feelings Fe: gets emotional and then scrolls down the comment section where their emotions are further intensified with the words of other people who have expressed their feelings as well.
I don't really think they're trying to portrait INFP as being cold hearted, I think the thing is that they (we) don't let the environment shape us that much and that's why sincerity plays such a big role... he's not checking for approaval or tips, he's just stating a sincere personal opinion!
Yea, you're right. He's sincere and open in expressing his thoughts and opinions, which is great. We should be thankful that we hear insights of other people. Seldom we can find people like him. I would like a friend to be like that.:>
Reflecting on the statement and my statement, I think it took me a moment to understand there's a difference between an interest in learning and school. As an INFP-t, I do really enjoy studying and learning about new things, but yes, school, especially elementary and high school do suck.
No, I liked school. Hacked it. Teacher's monologue turned out to be quite a stimulating backround to endless secret drawing sessions. I also loved maths. Plus I actually really like the tension between inner fluidity and outer structure.
What I find ironic is that in the end it is the INFP who gets everyone’s attention because of his mix of goofiness and strong passion... And it’s attention the thing introverts seek the least! The kind of thing that happens to me very often as an INFP, I try to go low profile, but that natural and involuntary eccentricity takes the whole place.
This is just too good! Especially the last part because: 1. Andrew becomes conflicted with his ideals, which ultimately forces him to voice how he feels about the topic. 2. He then breaks a golden rule by incl. a personal anecdote in the midst of explaining himself. But because he was so passionate about the topic, he doesn't realise that he just revealed something about himself that he normally wouldn't have. 3. As an INFP not only doesn't he like to talk for too long, but he likes to protect his privacy & all types of stories that someone can use to get to truly know him (an INFP's insecurity is most intense, but it is also what makes them so interesting). 4. Carrie at the end reaffirms Andrew like a true master. Not only does she tell him that what he said was interesting & that he didn't speak for too long (which was true). But she tries to eradicate Andrew's paranoia & sense of personal guilt because he shared an anecdote by saying: "You didn't dislike YOUR school, but that you disliked schooling" (this was the sugar-coated white lie) :)
I don't see it as a sugar coated white lie, in an infj and I had the same response as her, she just explained what he felt and she was right Andrew only hated school because of the way school works because it doesn't nurture an individual's skill and talent, it just forces you to memorize and follow rules blindly, if schools cared more about the students abilities then Andrew wouldn't have hated it
Aykut You didn't dislike YOUR schooling, you just did not like school. I feel she did not really 'get it'. The issue is not that. He does not like when people are boxed in and limited, and school is one place that that happens, and that is like a terrible sin to put anybody with gifting into a restricting box. If I were him (I am INFP) I would have felt misunderstood because she summarises without showing that she grasps the essense of the matter. That would have made me feel alone and misunderstood and sad in a way. I would want to explain again but then realize probably she doesn't care and then stop myself and at that point I would pull away from her emotionally. He opened up something of his deep inner values. But then he realised he probably spoke to long because life had taught him people don't care like he does. So he feels vulnerable and exposed. Her 'reassurance' gesture will not make him feel better if he don't feel heared and understood and loved with regards to the core value he feels so passionate about. The only reason he feels bad about talking so long is because he is so sure whether people care about him. When I feel safe like with my husband, I can go on about something I am passionate about without apology because I know he cares about and loves me and what I am passionate about matters to him. But when I don't know that people care about me I would feel uneasy like Garfield when I realise I have exposed my values and passions to people that does not give a damn, and then if I dont get the reassurance that they care I would pull away. Because my value is me. How you hear me and embrace me when I speak from the heart about something I am passionate about is deeply personal, because that is how you feel about my heart and my heart is my innermost being.
INFJ here, and I totally agree with tihis vid: I always tend to disregard my own feelings in a social situation for the sake of surface harmony. For example, if I feel that someone's opinion is wrong, I would never say: "You are wrong." - that's too harsh for me. Instead something like this: "Yes, that's a good idea, but have you ever thought about this:..." - and then I tell my opinion. For me, "sincerity" and the expression of emotions are different things. For example if you dislike a person, but you still try to do good to that person, you really and sincerely love that person regardless of your feelings. In this case, "love" is a question of will, not of feelings. You love that person, because you want to, and not because you feel so.
I'm an isfp. And if somebody is wrong I don't just blurt it out. But I may just FEEL that they're wrong. I am never harsh. Fi is not as unfeeling as you think.
bbnzn00 Hi, (infp) when somebody is wrong I noticed I can react pretty blunt, especially when it clashes with my moral values. But I try to learn from other types. I think every type is really interesting.
Fe seems rather 'fake' to me. Like what you just said. How can you love a person you dislike? I mean I can see the good intentions and not wanting to be harsh cos it just makes things awkward but unsincerity is the worse fucking thing, you never know if someone actually means what theyre saying or if theyre just trying not to hurt you.
I suppose it all boils down to the definition of "love". But your idea of loving a person "because u want to" seems more like an obligatory service to me, based on my subjective idea of love. Just my two cents worth.
***** lol haha i know what u mean, it makes me slightly wary of primary Fe users. I have Fe (though i usually score higher for Fi) as an inferior function myself and I know well how fake i can get using it
No matter what results you get in the Myers-Briggs type indicator test, I think the most important thing to remember (at least for me) is that personalities are not stagnant unless we let them be. We can work on improving those aspects of ourselves that are less developed, and with time, lead more fulfulling lives - both for ourselves, as well as for (or, rather, with) other people. We can all use some insight into ourselves; how we relate to ourselves and the world around us - as well as how we handle various situations. If we could view the Myers-Briggs test as an indicator of how we can improve, instead of becoming complacent with the way we "just are" (meaning: "I don't have to change, cause I am this or that personality type")..now THAT would make this type indicator test into something useful, rather than just an excuse not to change, or as a comfort that you are not alone in this world (although, feeling that you are not alone in this world is very important). That doesn't mean we shouldn't accept who we are - in fact, it means embracing and accepting all of who you are, and letting yourself explore the possibilities and abilities/qualities you carry; some of which you may not have been aware of.
I'm a little shocked reading comments from INFPs saying they felt this video portrays us in a bad light. I thought this video put into words what I couldn't about how my morals and inner feelings behave. It never says anything bad about Andrew; it shows that his feelings and morals are not focused on the external world. It shows that INFPs experience inner emotions very deeply, and that they are passionate about them, even though they are not as expressive as Fe-users. Also that INFPs can lack the natural sense of what is socially acceptable that Fe-users often have. This is true. It's not that Andrew or other INFPs are rude, he's never at all shown as or said to be rude or inferior in the video. It's not that we can't learn social expectations. We are just not as in-tune with them as Fe-doms and auxs. I find it so hard to be offended by this video when it is a perfect example of when and how INFPs focus their feelings and morals.
Totally. And even if people are unsure about the INFP/INFJ types, I still thought it showed a clear distinction between an Fi style approach and Fe. // As a minor tangential point aimed to CT, since Fi is an introverted function, it typically is paired with a P style extroverted function, so you're also getting a P vs J style difference in the visuals. Even when P's try to be put together, there's a casualness around their presentation; and J's trying to be casual still have a deliberateness about them (which I think shows up in Andrew and Casey here).
It's just to video is only half right. This discriction applies to infp with overpowering Fi functions. Infp with strong Ne don't act as much like this as you guys do.
Erbbie Staas This video is focusing on the feeling functions. The clip in particular was chosen and edited to highlight the difference between Fi and Fe, not INFPs and INFJs as a whole. If you watch full interviews with Andrew you can see his Ne is quite present as well. This video shows Andrew's dominant Fi, yes, but I hardly think it's overpowering or abnormally strong for an INFP.
Kikyo4815 Then this video should have been called Fi and Fe, not infp and infj. It's extremely misleading. And either way even a infp with very strong Fi will display some Ne. I'd say one of the main differences between and Fi concentrated infp and an well developed Ne infp is how they handle social situations. My friend is the Fi one and I'm the Ne one. I seem to handle social life a lot more aware of my surroundings than she does. Where as she just does as she feels.
I'm not upset by this, as it's fairly accurate in the way Fi thinks most of the time, but the problem with it, is that this video interview seems to pain the Fe in a better light, for this particular instance.
As an INFP i can definitely relate to the whole thing where you’re very passionate about something and you keep ranting and don’t notice how the person you’re ranting to is reacting-if you know what I mean. I don’t really know how to explain it. But that moment Andrew was having just felt very relatable.
Probably because your passion is very close to you an introvert so as you express it to others you are most connected to yourself and trance out a bit. I do it too. I come back and I'm like oh you are here! But if someone actually gets what I'm saying it's a Christmas miracle lolol
I wish there were more videos like this about cognitive functions!! It is so helpful to see the actual real life examples and at the same time have them broken down and evaluated through words. Thanks so much!
Maybe nervousness or that he already went too far in by wanting to accommodate the girls pose to make her comfortable. He might’ve forgotten he had shoes on but bravely went on anyway to make her comfortable rather than confront to societal norms and back down from his original comment of saying he’s going to copy her pose.
I'm an INFJ and I don't neccesarily think that INFJS are more insincere than INFPS, I think that we are both equal but we just show sincerity in a different way. I think that in the same fashion Fi could be seen as insincere when being no so concerned about appropriateness. For me as an INFJ, I think I am sincere, it's just that I'm quite private and selective, so I will not necessarily reveal my deepest introspective thoughts or feelings immediately or to "just anyone." to use as they will/please. 100% relate to appropriateness though, almost painfully.
When I first saw this video I really related to both sides of the argument and was confused. I've since realised that my social anxiety makes me extra aware of other people and what's going on in the room. I've realised that I relate to nearly everything I see written about INFPs and now class myself as one.
I have the same problem! It's difficult with anxiety/depression because what is your personality and what is the illness? I relate to both I took a "INFP or INFJ" test and I got 53% INFP and 47% INFJ, not exactly clearcut lol
GreenMonkeyToaster That's me too! Lol I usually get INFJ, but with some tests I get INFP and the results are usually around 53/47%... Always close! I find that I do, however, relate more to INFJ overall. It's all very fascinating to me! Thanks for sharing! 😊
I think in the first situation Andrew already noticed that sitting with your feet on the couch was accepted because Carey was doing it so comfortably. He was very aware of what was appropiate.
Johann Badenhorst the opposite happened to me. I originally thought I was an INFP, and then realized I wasn't. I would've acted remarkably like mulligan haha
My sister worked many years as a therapist. I'm an INFP, my sister is an INFJ. In conversation, she re-frames what I say, and always seems to get it wrong... it's too frustrating, so I hold a lot back! Do INFP's ever meet anyone who truly understands them... I never have???
I’m an INFP and my brother is an INFJ and even though, most of the time, we get along well, we have communication issues from time to time where I feel like he reacted too harshly to what I perceived as a normal question and then he gets offended at me being angry at him being angry xD its a cycle that doesn’t end unless I then give in and pretend like I did something even if I think I didn’t. In other words: My brother does the same thing with the reframing of what I said and did and its extremely frustrating when it happens. I think the issue sometimes with INFP and INFJ communication is that we feel so very differently and also sometimes perceive our outer world differently and so it can be confusing to each other why one person reacted one way and one the other. But its also difficult in general to find people who truly get you as an INFP. Even other INFP’s don’t always get you 100% because we are very individualistic and unique, even amongst each other. Most of the time I don’t mind but other times I wonder if I’m not just a little bit insane xD Thats at least my take on it
I’ve seen INFPs being recommended with ENFJs a LOT due to both feeling highly understood by one another. I can confirm, in my experience at least, that it’s true!
I'm sliced right down the middle with these two. In any given situation, Fi or Fe may show up. They both have equal opportunity. Sometimes they even collide and I'll use both simultaneously. I seem to be some kind of infp/infj hybrid :\
Actually, most critics of typology theory make this exact point, that individuals aren't "one or the other" but respond differently in different situations.
***** We agree that the Jungian types need to be complimented by an overlay, but we don't use Enneagram at all. We use the psychiatric personalities instead, e.g. Histrionic, Narcissist, etc..
Well I've since identified myself as infj but I was a bit confused because I am able to hide my emotions well and appear inexpressive and "blank" at times. I would also have those "scattered" moments where there seems to be many things going on in my head at once with no definitive conclusion in sight, though I desire one (as an infj would). However I would say that, when I'm not thinking much, I am typically more outwardly expressive. I wonder if the fact that my 'j' in infj is a bit on the low side has anything to do with it? oh well, it's not that big of a deal lol
Andrew Garfield and I have same MBTI personality! And this vid actually shows him while being super informative and professional, so cool! Of course all the heated yet sensible debates here about INFP are noteworthy as well, I also agree that INFPs are not non-empathic assholes, (maybe self-centered in some way) but focused on "internal values", in other words, more sincere and/or stubborn to his/her own beliefs and ideas. They can feel sorry and realize what others are feeling as well.
I am an INFP and one of my sisters is an INFJ. We act exactly like Andrew and Carey in this video. I'm often on my "soap box" being passionate about something I feel is unfair and she has that beautiful way of really understanding me and everyone else.
This video really seems to suggest that Andrew Garfield (and INFPs implicitly) is entirely oblivious to other people's feelings except in the abstract, which I don't feel is fair. He notices the exact same social norms and cues that Carey Mulligan does but he simply notices that more slowly and acknowledges them differently. She begins the interview acknowledging the social norm of feet off the couch and asks for permission in order to align herself. So this does show a high degree of social awareness and consideration, but he makes the same observations (the video suggests he doesn't), he just doesn't begin that way, nor does he look at her while he readjusts himself but it is implicit that he had to have looked at her in order to be aware of the situation. He sees her, probably awkwardly avoids her gaze because of the face's distracting power (he's trying to compose his thoughts and he can't deal with faces and protocol while he's doing that) and he then makes the connection that if he adjusts his seated position he will align with her and thus feel better himself. He even uses the word align. So the only difference is the order in which they accomplished the same exact thing. If anything, we could even say that he was the more polite one because he conformed to her position rather than her conforming to his. She begins by acknowledging that she is breaking global social conformity by sitting that way but does it anyway with the permission of the director. Andrew doesn't have to get permission because it is implicit that if Carrey is allowed to sit that way, so is he. So I completely refute the idea that the INFP is by nature selfish and oblivious to other people's feelings, as well as the idea that an INFJ is somehow automatically morally superior. If anything, the social appropriateness of either type is going to be more strongly affected by degree of development and maturity of the individual.
I agree with almost every thing you say, especially about why he is not looking directly at her when he also sat like her. I think it was his way of making a connection and yes (like me too) kind of avoiding the eye to eye contact. I think though if he was INFJ he might have asked her whether she mind him sitting like her (some people would mind) I don't think she necessarily acted better, because it is just the way you look at it. She clearly is more focused on other people (almost constantly) while he is also aware of others, but primarily focused on his own feelings. That does not mean he does not consider others at all, because i think he does. Just differently
TAHNK YOU. so many people think that Fi means being unaware of other people's feelings or surroundings...But you can clearly see from the video Andrew does care about them. Just expresses more awkwardly and subtle then Carey. And as an infp myself I am aware of others' feelings. Actually too much. But the way Fi and Fe expresses it is different...and most infps including myself seems to have problems making eue contact. I get really insecure in social situations cuase I want everything to go perfect, and I don't want to make others feel bad or anything. so if an infp is acting really akward as Andrew is in the video, it isn't because he or she is being oblivious to the surroundings or others's feelings. Rather they are overthinking about those things too much.
im oblivious to other people being there ! while im explaining something too. only for a while, when i need to turn my focus inwards in order to collect myself, because i always feel like im feeling thoughts and thinking feelings instead of thinking and feeling seperately like most people do. seems to me they can only focus on one or the other at the same time. otherwise i feel like emotions and thoughts might seep through or leak, running through my hands like sand. having to recollect and assess situations and others feelings again and again and again. reassessing is happening very often and doesnt really take long to process other peoples emotions, even maybe 3 times while building 1 sentence. it might seem as if we are therefore selfish and unempathic due to little or the lack of active interaction with others. in fact we are able to process faster because of the dualistic way of feeling/thinking. if you already know all possible patterns and nuances of emotions, you are able to translate faster. i think its selfish or even narcissistic if people never inspect feelings of others.on contrary, the infp is an emotions fetishist. maybe people come to the conclusion of not being interested in others feelings, because we dont have to ask, we dont have to inspect facial expressions for an eternity, nor do we need to listen carefully to speechrythms or tone. its being processed almost automatically. because we can. i didnt read much about infp´s or infj´s, its just what i have always experienced and still do and i can relate to the interview, because i have an infj friend and she acts often as my translator, when im caught up in the swirl of feeling thoughts and thinking feelings. she understands completely anyway even if it doesnt make any sense to others.
But that's the whole Point! (Acknowledging them differently) As an INFP, i believe I'm even more aware of social norms because I don't like them. Lol Therefore I break them because I want to, I don't give a damn to them. For example, I was going revalidate my drivers license on a public office and had to wait more than a couple of hours (a very Brazilian thing). After an hour standing, I saw 2 teenage boys sitting on the sidewalk along the public department wall, so I sat down. The woman behind me, who tried to hold a small talk conversation with me in the beginning (in vain, because I also don't care about small talk), she tried to stop me asking if I was really gonna sit at that "filthy place" (just the pavement, really). As a 30 year old woman, it's really inappropriate to sit on the floor, specially in public. I just told her off saying that I had waited standing for all hour already and since there were still a hundred people ahead of me at the cue/line, we weren't going go anywhere anytime soon, so I was gonna wait sitting. After hushed comments and some resistance, people started to sit down too, or couch, like the woman behind me. So, I, as an INFP, am well aware of social norms, I can see them even more clearly, I think. I just tend to ignore the ones that don't align with my beliefs. On the other hand, I do pay attention to people in a different way. I make them feel comfortable with their "inappropriateness" sharing my insecurities and flaws. I also pay a lot of attention to how people treat those who are from "lower social status", because I judge them by how they use their power on other people. And I tend to make people who are "under my social status" or who service me with a lot of care and gratitude, to show that I really don't care about social norms, and that we are equals, once everybody has a professional or work designation and if we are both doing our jobs with excellence, even if I'm the director and you are the janitor, we are both being exceptional at what we do and we're on the same boat. Therefore, how we react to our culture and society's rules, that's what defines us (as INFP or any other personality).
@ 1:59: This is because introverted functions are personal functions. An Fi type doesn't need to acknowledge anyone or anything to materialize his personal/individual/private feelings about something. This also ties into the poor stereotype about any feeling type like ENFJ or INFP, that unlike thinking types, feeling types must be people-oriented, using their gifts to help society and be personable sociable contributors in their daily life. However that can't be further from the truth. Fe and Fi are both about feeling, not about people. People are only an available source for cognitive manifestation, in thinking functions as well, not the primary sole source of feeling. In the case of Fe, one will demonstrate, acknowledge and be quite perceptive of feelings, however this doesn't mean one is in any way going to be personable, social or adhere to the values of a society. MBTI will lead you to believe the lie that they will, but Fe isn't a social value-system function, it is not a people-oriented function, it is an outer-world feeling function. Feeling. It deals with any feeling as it relates to the world outside oneself and appropriates itself to the world of feelings that it is used to.
I think very strongly I'm an INFP (or ENFP because that's what I got as a test result, and a lot of the things were very true to me but some things were not; I then went on to read the INFP description and I think it describes me even better.) So if I was in that situation, I would likely have acted a lot like Andrew did. But let me explain something the video didn't: I don't think Andrew was less concerned with appropriateness than Carey. In fact, I'd be so polite and appropriate (or insecure) that I probably would never even ask whether I can put my shoes on the couch, I would just keep them on the ground. And even if I did want to put them on the couch (if I was there alone or doing it first), I would most definitely ask if it's okay first. But when Andrew did it without asking if it's okay, I probably wouldn't have asked either, not because I'm not polite, but because I would have been TOO polite and worried that it might have hurt Carey's feelings seeing as she already had her feet on the couch! (And because it was obvious that it was okay to do it because she had already got the permission.) Also, the reason for also putting my shoes on the couch would probably be to be as cool and relaxed as Carey. I would admire her confidence for doing it despite it not being the "appropriate" thing to do in a "serious" interview. I would like to be able to be as confident as her and not appear too serious because in reality, I can be really fun-loving and make jokes/laugh about everything (Although of course we can be so deep and passionate like Andrew demonstrated with his rambling about the school system.) Finally, after putting my feet on the couch (while I was talking) I wouldn't have looked Carey in the eyes either because that would probably have distracted me too much and make me lose my complicated train of thought (for INFPs, it's important to convey the exact meaning/feeling they have in their head). But had I been silent while doing that, then I would've looked at her and smiled. :) By this I definitely don't mean that Carey or INFJs are less polite or appropriate, like I said I admire what she did, just wanted to explain these things because INFP behaviour can often be misunderstood.
As an INFJ this was incredibly illuminating for a few reasons: 1. It's amazing to see the extroverted feeling manifest as soothing, reassuring, and face saving to name a few... it really distresses me not to do these things and thus you can imagine my weariness when it comes to family meetings 2. Realizing why I have a hard time understanding introverted feeling people... their emotions are all inside their head and it's hard to read them sometimes... also for some of them the lack of "appropriateness" really puts me off sometimes 3. I really admire the introverted feeling people for having strong beliefs and aligning with them resolutely because me, an INFJ, noticed my values to waver depending on who is around me and it kind of started to cause cognitive friction because I started to think of myself as essentially a pushover with my values but I'm realizing it's just my gift of reassuring others and Prioritizing others feelings above my own
Wow. This is amazing. I'm an INFP and I can totally relate to Garfield. We are passionate, to the point of obsession, about things we find interesting and worthwhile. Yet for those things we do not find worthy (typically, practical things) we are incapable to empathize. It's like those things happen in a different wavelength and we can't even register them. I think we are much less aware and caring about our surroundings than INFJs, which is a very good thing. We are certainly more resilient and stronger emotionally, in my opinion.
PLEASE, PLEASE, MORE OF THIS! This is in the top 5 most helpful videos I have ever watched in understanding the contrast between these two functions. All the other videos on the internet are vague and just say one type has more of this, while the other type has less of that. Those kind of descriptions are totally unhelpful because we've all only lived in our own brains, so how are we supposed to know when we are more or less or how we are different in our thinking than someone else? This video was incredible. I have watched it at least 20 times in the last few weeks and think of it often. Please, please make more of these videos where we can see the functions in play by real human interaction.
My one complaint is that after watching the video, I felt like it depicted INFPs (Me) as self-focused, talkative, inappropriate folks -- until my INFJ friend reframed it to make me feel better ... thereby completely exemplifying between the two of us exactly what the video was showing. (For the other INFPs feeling insecure or inferior to the INFJ perfection sand social grace) My friend reframed it by saying that when she watches the video, what she sees is someone (INFP) who can be themselves more, someone who doesn't feel so intensely involved in what other people are thinking and feeling at all times, and that that is a desirable thing to her, not a fault. Perhaps in the next video, something positive could be said about INFPs in addition to that they are socially awkward, even if that can be true. 😭😭
im infp and i was able to see a lot of myself within andrew during this interview especially while he was talking about school as i went though my whole life with undiagnosed autism and intense adhd (im 22 and was just finally diagnosed this year)
I think I'm a lot like Carrie in this video, but in my head I'm a bit like Andrew. Meaning that I often have moments of intense personal feeling but I'm too cagey to actually let it all spill out. So I suppose I am more of an INFJ.
Leila N I feel the same. At times, there is so much I would like to say but then I'm aware of everyone else in the room and I don't. I also don't want anyone to think I'm being ridiculous 😅 Andrew is brave though. INFP's rock!
CallMe Coco brave is a nice way of looking at it but it also could be that he simply thinks authentic expression is the best thing everyone’s trying to do it because he is. I think that’s an infp thing to do
That was very interesting! I like how the information was presented. Thank you! I'm an INTJ and particularly love INFPs and INFJs so this was especially interesting for me.
I came here assuming i mightve been an INFP afterall instead of INFJ, but honestly this helped me understand that what INFP's choose to focus on is similar to INFJ's only more intense and in flow with themselves. For me being an INFJ, i really understood where he was coming from but id rather he just stop talking about it because there are reasons for things being the way they are. For the most part, I dont want to criticize reality just because it doesnt fit with what I believe it should be and i hate to focus on things with so much passion, as it makes me easily forget the other person's opinions or feelings and might make them uncomfortable in an overwhelmed or depressed manner. XD This was awesome though. I really appreciate it!
I guess this will justify further, but i want to change the word i used "hate to" to "choose not to". We all have choices and i can appreciate everything because everything exists simply because someone saw the good in it.
On point! Well demonstrated and synthesized! As an INFJ myself, I really appreciate and resonate with how clearly and thoroughly, though still concisely, this was presented.
in that last clip she not only reassured him that it was okay, but also told him everything that she understood so he could know that she was paying attention and he was being heard. omg i’m an INFJ and i do that ALL the time. it’s so weird to watch other people with your similar traits being analyzed and watching them interact.
I love the way Andrew Garfield expresses himself through out this entire video. His mind is wonderful and how he keeps ramblimg on, others may find it annoying, I could listen to that for hours, honestly. He's so adorable here. 5:36 I love speaking that way with people. I've come to realize how I'm so attracted to INFP's. I've come to realize this last year due to talking to a few of them on Personality Cafe which is a Forum. That place has truly helped me find out who I am as a person. But yet now I'm frequently visiting the INFP section because I love the way they think. I'm in completely awe of them. They are truly wonderful people. /INFJ
(INFP here) Interesting video. Like other people who have commented here, I feel like this video portrays him in a bad light, first of all because his behaviour seems socially unacceptable, like you are suposed to try to please others even in trivial matters like your sitting positions( and his initial one was very appropriate too). Then, because he opens emotionally and that's ''unacceptable'' Also, the things he said, I agree with them. The world would suck without people willing to open themselves like that without caring much if they're not comforming ; ( I kind of understand that this video is not meant to compare between these types to see who's the ''better'' one, but as an INFP who is pretty self conscious about her P preference and general chaotic/rebellious behaviour, I felt a little bad. And from what I noticed, INFJs dislike us most of the time.
Fascinating. I have always thought I was INFP but recently tested as an INFJ. The more I read up on it, and the more I understand these dominant functions (external and internal Feeling functions, for example), the more sure I am that I'm INFJ. This video demonstrated that very well, so thank you!
Supposedly I'm INFJ but I relate so much to INFPs as as well, almost equally. The way Andrew reacted to the conformity at school question is how I react to so many things, as well as feeling things my own way regardless of how others would feel about them, then I realize I went off and I freak out. And in the same way, I react like Carey did when people turn to me for support, and people quite often turn to me for support. I've always been unsure which category I fit into. Not sure if it's possible to be both? I wonder. Oh, forgot to add: great video, thanks for highlighting the differences, I'm still new to this. No white lie.
Face-saving is so accurate to what I always do whenever I have a conversation with someone because I just always try to understand people's feelings, even if I don't quite get it, I still tried to understand and see it as if I am them
I think the first demonstration is invalid though. Someone else was already sitting like that so it'd make sense for him to feel like maybe he could too. Not like he'd stop the interview just to ask if he can sit a certain way.
+SmittenKitten but surely it would be already considered appropriate if someone else had already asked if it was okay for the interviewee to sit that way and already was sitting that way...it would be weird to say 'is it okay if I sit like that too because you said she could so can I as well?' Duh obviously / you would sound like a child..?
Actually he could ask whether she mind that he sit like that too. Some people won't it when others "copy" them. I guess if she was the second one to sit down she might have done something like that
Yes a younger me (im infp). Would have over thought asking and decided to just do it probably after determining it wouldnt be prudent to interupt the interview for such a silly question because shes already doing it. (We have internal coversations with ourselves. Mostly because - like a child - i ask a million questions to get to a conclusuon and that is neverrr welcome , lol) As i feel like rosie jones illustrated in her response with her self given answer. Whether she's infp or not? Its still a perfect example
2:00 false. The fi bonds internally with others, as such, he doesn't need to check up on her feelings to "see if" he "has" bonded with her, the bonding is internal, inside of him- he knows whether he is bonded by looking inside himself, not AT her. 1:35 False. The impropriaty would consist of interrupting their conversation by asking the cameraman if it was okay to put his shoes on the sofa- the interruption would be rude bc it would break the conversation they were both having. 2:11 false again. You can't judge wether the fi has bonded by looking at his extraverted facial expression- recall that his feeling is NOT external on his face, it's internal. The man might be in love and he wouldn't show it bc that's internal feeling.
this really enlightened me about the differences between infps and infjs, i was struggling to understand and couldn't decide which one i was, now i know. thanks a lot
brilliant,i wish you can make more videos like this, coz its easier for me to understand mbti ,im an infj but im egyptian, there's alot of difficult words in the academic learning which i cant easily understand, also you sure must know,i think in pictures ,so a video for me is a brilliant idea, now all the things you've just explained in this video, will be stuck in my brain forever, just because i have explaining pictures along with it
Labeling the techniques of what the interviewees do with each function during the breakdown parts of the video: championing, soothing, face-saving, etc. is SO helpful to remember them and think of them as individual moves you can practice instead of approaching it like, "oh I'm gonna work on my Fe today." A very intriguing approach! Thanks!
This was incredibly helpful for me. I loved having the focus on a very specific comparison of Fe versus Fi , along with detailed examples for each literally displayed by people. I hope that I will find many more videos like this one so I can continue to truly deepen my understanding.
I disagree with the idea that INFJ's tell "little white lies". We tend to be very objective, even to the point of overriding our personal, immediate opinion, and I think that is what she was doing here.
CelebrityTypes Ok please can you point me to some resources into Fe and more generally, the entire MBTI? I cannot reconcile all this. I need to get to the bottom of all this.
PLEASE do more of these, but definitely try to find multiple examples for each type interaction. I'm an INFP and both of my best friends are INFJs. More INFJ-INFP interactions would be super helpful.
I am INFP/ ENFP and I have ADHD/ ADD.I think itś much after what you look for...I tend to naturally observe behaviour of ADD since I have it myself...let me explain what I saw when I watched this video: One could also see many of his INFP symptoms as: Unattentiveness or beeing Shy/ having Social Anxiety (many people with ADHD have tis, or even avoidance because of our condition) at (1:59), Fiddeling (2:58) and Hyperfocusing (5:11, realisation of it at 5:37), Spacing Out/ Forgetting/ getting Distracted during a conversation and therefore "buying more time" by compensating (5:16) Emotional impulsivity/ Sensitivity (4:08, 5:37) A lot of kids with ADHD have strong Creativity and doesn´t thrive at school and are feel the system doesn´t fit their needs and some speak up against it (4:28) Looking people in the eyes can cause an ADHDér to get Distracted (5:47)
I also have ADHD and am classically classified as an INFP, but have extroverted tendencies from also being Bipolar. So I do have some of the E in me. I also fully agree with you on all of your points. Especially the hyperfocusing and impulsivity.
Randy Kemuksigak I am on the limit between I and E. Both in the socionics and MBTI I score INFp/ INFP (Socalled Romantic type) which is confusing because of the "J/P switch" that is supposed to be there. What do you score on the socionics type test? Are you also type 4 on the enneagram test?
TrantaLocked on an internet forum for INFPs hardly anyone with INFP had ADD when I asked so it seems more to me that a lot of ppl with ADD are INFP but that there might also be a lot of INFPs without ADD. What do you say to that?
This is one of the best videos I've ever seen, on any topic, anywhere! The INFP's (and/or others) complaining about a bias against them in the piece, kind of have a point, and kind of need to relax a little. The word means what it means and is accurately used, only people unfamiliar with these types of comparisons wouldn't understand it's not a value judgment. BUT, I suspect most people who see this here are exactly that type..... Thank you.
I like how all signs are pointing to me being an INFJ, and yes that is what I consider myself to be, but I constantly look for others opinions. It’s as if I don’t trust myself; thus, showing I favor Fe. I know it’s not that easy but Fe is definitely something I have a preference towards.
I feel like I MADLY flip flop between Infp and Infj and this just cements that for me, it's weird. Seriously I've done the test four times and have had the two twice each (I had to do it twice for two different uni courses, and then I just did it again because I like doing personality tests) but yeah, I am REALLY like Andrew sometimes, but others I'm so much more like Carrie and it's confusing!
I'm the same way but I've come to think I'm more like an INFJ, because I have universal values and I seek approval at times. I have a cousin who is an INFP and in some ways we are alike in behavior.
I find this video extremely insightful with its direct and patiently explained comparisons using a real conversation. It would be cool if you guys did more like these for other types! It really helps understanding how to notice Cognitive Functions as they occur (which is difficult imo).
idk, I took the INFP or INFJ test, and ended up with "INFJ" as a result (even though I got INFP in the 16p test), and honestly, even though I can sometimes relate to INFJ, but most of the times, I feel more like INFP . whenever I read descriptions about INFP, I can fully and easily recognize my own self
they have completely different cognitive functions, infj is ni-fe and infp is fi-ne, so they're quite different and if you're self-aware you should be able to tell the difference easily
@@punkbjork I feel that MBTIs are actually a continuum rather than a fixed something for people. We change our behaviours over the years we don't stay the sane
@@Pamven it's less about behavior and more about mental processes and the structure of your mind, which ultimately translates into behavior, but isn't always that obvious on the outside. i understand how my own mind works and how i process information, but random strangers on the internet always tell me i'm an infp, a feeler or a fi dom because i express emotions, empathy and a sense of ethics. it's like you can't be passionate about politics or possess a moral compass if you're an intp, thinker or ti dom (which i am). there are some stereotypes i don't fit into, such as being quiet and inexpressive, so based on the social persona i've developed, many people would probably mistype me if they looked at my body language and listened to my tone rather than the actual words i'm saying and idea i'm conveying. mbti is a system, like a language, and if we're following the rules of that system, people only have one type. systems can be limiting, so if you don't like that fixed categorization of the human psyche, that's understandable. people are too fluid and complex to be fully defined by labels. but, again like language, it's an abstract tool, designed to simplify complicated things and filter them through a comprehensible lens. this theory is also more than stereotypes, if you look deeper into it. there are detailed descriptions of all the types and how their functions can manifest in a certain state of mind or under specific conditions. but ultimately i understand why you wouldn't like to label yourself as anything, and instead keep your options open. oscar wilde said it best; to define is to limit. however op clearly likes this system and seems to want to utilize it to better understand themself, so i'm just explaining how to use it. we're pretty much in agreement though.
I just wrote an essay this semester about how the arts should be just as respected in today’s society as other “traditional” academic studies like mathematics and science. We INFP’s are exactly alike and I absolutely empathized with everything Andrew said. In fact, it isn’t just in this video where Andrew reminds me of myself. In other interviews I watch, he is constantly speaking MY MIND AJSJSJ like I adore him too, he’s a wonderful human being.
I don't like this. It makes it look like the INFP is a bad thing. The way the things are said about Andrew make it sound like he's in the wrong, like it's not right. I'm an INFP, and I just hate the way this portraying INFP's. Sorry.
Dear, you should accept your INFP'ness more. I'm an INFP and I completely agree with this and didn't find it offensive, thought I do appreciate INFJ's a lot.
CelebrityTypes I am an INFP too, and I found the lack of sincerity and sympathy in INFJ's, very troubling. Is that something to do with INFJ personality or a more specific case with Carey? Maybe her Fe side made her soothing, but being in the real world made her fake and distant too? How can her lack of sincerity and sympathy be attributed to Fe? How does one explain charity organizations all around the world? Is that all face-saving according to this theory? This cannot be.
CelebrityTypes The trouble is that the behavior of Garfield makes him look sissy and a laughing stock for others, who lack sincerity and sympathy. I am an INFP and would vehemently disagree to this justification taking MBTI as an excuze. Don't attribute that to MBTI, that's something else, but not MBTI !!
Not sure if I'm reading your comment right, but I would say that that is pretty much why us INFPs seem to take appropriateness and other's feelings as an afterthought - because we're usually so passionately feeling about the subject being discussed. If it seems like an issue of being passionate, I mean. So I would say we agree on the point that true internal passion drives our lack of focus on the outer appropriateness/feelings of others you mentioned. Hope I made myself clear lol. ;)
Thank you for this video! I was having trouble coming to terms with whether I was INFJ or INFP (I got INFJ more often in the tests, but I couldn't pinpoint why I am INFJ), and this video completely illustrated the difference. Now I know exactly why I am INFJ - my feeling is very much extroverted, even though I'm a highly introverted person - I do everything the text says Fe people do.
Before, I felt 50% infp 50% infj and since you really cannot be both, not knowing was driving me insane. This is the first video where I feel 80% infj so thank you ❤
As an INFJ. I can 100 percent relate to Mulligan. I have always come across as understanding of others to the point that I got taken for granted in the past, I have worked on that and reached a balance now. And yes I define myself based on how I make others feel when they are around me, again if this not balanced either, it can become people pleasing, which again I did in the past.. now I probably would jokingly say about my true honest feelings and then top it off with a gentle assurance. I am much more authentic now.
This is markedly biased against INFPs... and the analysis is immensely flawed. For example, it contrasts Garfield's behaviour with Mulligan in the beginning - noting that he does seek the same "appropriateness" as she - but the analysis completely misses a major point - she has already established the parameters... it would be more than redundant for him to do the exact same thing. For it to be an equal and objective observation, Garfield would have to be assessed from the beginning of the interview. That's just one obvious discrepancy - and it reveals the agenda of this video's author. Additionally, Mulligan's behaviour could be interpreted in another way - ie insecurity (seeking reassurance) rather than "appropriateness". In conclusion: Absolute BS!
You went full blowhard. Never go full blowhard. Even granting the entirety of your "argument" it doesn't back up your assessment that the video is "immensely flawed" at all. What you hit upon an initial appetizer before we get to the main point and that appetizer is open to interpretation. Newsflash: Almost anything in psychology is open to interpretation. Do you also go through Jung/Myers' books with a red marker, marking down "open to interpretation" on every page? That seems sad. It's not a problem that something is open to interpretation, that just means that we have to find the best interpretation possible. And that's really the way it goes in almost all psychology. Man, we've never received so many stupid comments on our work as we have on RUclips.
CelebrityTypes Instead of trying to show Ryan why your analysis is better, you took one aspect regarding the tone of that comment and disregarded the arguments. Wonder what function does this show?
CelebrityTypes actually, it is pretty flawed. As I have stated in a previous comment, this mostly applies to infp with strong Fi. INFP with a well developed Ne will rarely display this type of behaivior. And in all honesty, the analysis as a whole is flawed.
IDRlabs Psychology is the softest/weakest science there is, thats the reason everything in your discipline is open to interp. No other science had this issue. Even as research goes on, psych will never catch up to harder sciences and therefore yall need to stop parading your flimsy, heavily biased theories as fact, because they are barely supported by standard scientific methods. Nothing is truly proven fact, i have never seen people so unable to rethink their conclusions than psychologists, and it is hurting people all over the world, so check your pride. Furthermore this channel needs to be way better equipped to handle feedback without insulting viewers, that was extremely tacky and unprofessional. You werent being insulted, just told that your video's argument was flawed (which it is). keep in mind this is a YT comment section, no one owes you an essay to express crticism here.
I feel you did an elegant job by showing a real world example of Fi and Fe at work. If possible, another video, but solely focusing on Ni and Ne. Thank you for posting this video!
I did a test on my cognitive functions and the two strongest ones were Extroverted Feeling (Fe) and Introverted Feeling (Fi). So basically, am I just a huge blob of my own emotions AND other peoples emotions?
out of all the videos and websites i've watched to try and figure out which type fit me best, this was the so so helpful. all the others told me about the cognitive functions but you actually explained them with examples, so thank you!
Yeah INFJ boyfriend does that thing Mulligan did at the end a lot where they clarify your passion-fueled rant about the state of the world into something that makes more sense. :)
Yeah I also have a beef with the way creative pursuits are completely shit on in most school systems, and outside of creative classes like art and writing school was just a series of chores and drudgery, like breaking rocks in a prison.
i'm generally an INFJ but just took the test again and scored INF, mildly P rather than J, so wanted to watch this. I thought it was helpful. At first I didn't like the way it obliterated the context and content of the original interview, then I realized that the original interview was largely unrelated to MBTI (thanks for linking it below however!) It was very helpful in providing examples of Fe vs Fi. After watching this i continue to think I am more INFJ than INFP, as I often find myself assessing the moods of those around me and taking that into account in what I say and even what I do. Thanks again.
Interesting because I'm also an INFP in school right now and I just feel lost and math isn't my thing and I'm unhappy with the fact that I have to through with this to conform to so many different standards.
+JackyK Hi! I'm INFP too. Math is also not my thing, its not that I say Math is not INFP thing, not at all. But I bet people have been telling that you're smart. I hated biology chemistry physics and math and I was in Science class and sometimes I'd just go to the bathroom when the class was in progress and cry quietly in the bathroom. And there was a time when I was in physics class and I was SO STRESSED that I suddenly cried in the class and I cried river. All that I wanna say to you is that I understand your feeling. You cant really optimize your brain in something that you don't really like. Believe me when it's over, it would feel like air rushing in to your system and things. I'm in college now and studying Communication Science and it feels like a blast to me. Well good luck then :)
+JackyK As an INFP, I can find myself very unhappy in school setting. Too dogmatic, systematic and soul sucking for me. I took up forensic science as an undergrad and all those science classes gave me a nervous breakdown. However, I do like math though, and I'm pretty good at it. It's a big reason why I studied computer science. However, now that I'm nurturing and tuning into my authenticity, computer science is not the right field for me :-\ Well, stick to what you love and don't be afraid to go against the grain. (Andrew Garfield will support you 100% ;) ;) )
+JackyK Haha! Andrew Garfield will support us! Love it. Carey Mulligan will soothe us albeit potentially insincerely to make the atmosphere better. Lolz!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do more of these! You made it so so so easy to understand and I can actually type my sister now! This video was very insightful! PLEASE DO MORE! sincerely, INFP
Jonah Davis Whenever I've taken the Myers Briggs tests, I've gotten either INFP or INFJ. For both the P and J, I was just barely on one side or the other.
@@lifadysi9418 you can't. INFPs are vastly different from INFJs. They're primarily judgers (Fi dom), while INFJs are primarily perceivers (Ni dom). Take the test for cognitive functions, and you'll find out your actual type.
As an INFJ, I enjoy being empathetic and warm to people, I just wish that others would do the same for me. Gets tiring not having my efforts be reciprocated and I feel like people take me and my kindness for granted...

INFPs are funny. I often find them as adorable soft in comparisons to other types. I can listen for hours because I feel good near them. /INFJ
Their ability to just go ahead and express their emotions is fascinating. Every emotion I show (if I even show emotions) is calculated according to the "room" and social standards.
Alright, i need an infj in my life probably..
i'm an INFP, my best friend is an INFJ. Think our types like each other
@@DeboraCardoso_ I agree!!
@@engotzzsja hehe yes. Everyone needs an infj in their life as long as u don't abuse their empathy ❤️
I'm an INFJ, and it all hit home, especially the last clip where he's asking if he said too much and she immediately started reflecting back what he said and reassuring him that it was okay. It's like stepping outside of my body and seeing how I interact with others. It's pretty much identical. Freaky.
Even the agreeing “mhm” was at the exact moment I would’ve used it
I love ppl who do this omg
im not even kidding, that is the EXACT words i would've said lmao, im freaked out by how accurate it was. the three characteristics were spot-on.
I was like, yes girl thank you, speak my mind. It saddens me that he felt embarrassed and pressured, like no, your feelings are valid.
INFPs need an INFJ friend. Badly. Please help.
I'm INFJ. I love seeing someone talk passionately about something. It's like I can feel their passion. I might not like what they like but seeing that enthusiasm just makes me happy
Yess and then why react with logical and facts when you can agree with them in an enthusiastic and exciting way to “feel” along with them
That's such an INFJ thing. Feeling the their passion, EVEN when we disagree with them.
@Banana Power
An INFJ will only truly agree with you, if both Fe and Ti are satisfied. So we can agree on the same "issues", even be on the same side of the argument, but if you expressed it in an irrational/illogical and indiscriminate way, we'll have no problem dismantling your statement.
I am an INFJ and I am so glad that someone out there outside of me, thinks this way. I often mentally complain that most people often lack passion.
Wow as an INFJ I didn't even realize that the "soothing" and "face-saving" thing was an INFJ trait. I tend to "interpret" people's thoughts A LOT. hahah As someone who hates being misunderstood, I also would hate for others to be misunderstood. Therefore, making sure everything is said and communicated precisely as intended is very important to me.
yeah! and knowing how bad I'd feel if i talked/rambled too much about something, I'd definitely assure them it was worthwhile and interesting.
what you say about being misunderstood is sooo true. as an infj the idea of someone thinking im lying when im genuinely not is terrifying to me. i think sometimes then i can come across as too defensive when really i just want people to understand what im saying as i intended it.
it's an Fe trait.
INFP here - find an INFP and be their friend please. They need you. that is all.
Thanks
+MissEdge102 yeah me too. he show me how I act myself and what you said is so
true ^^
"Fuck Math"

+goodninja3 hating math has nothing to do with your type. just saying.
Rachel Wood
Here's the problem though, by saying science is more important than art subjects.

I don't really think they're trying to portrait INFP as being cold hearted, I think the thing is that they (we) don't let the environment shape us that much and that's why sincerity plays such a big role... he's not checking for approaval or tips, he's just stating a sincere personal opinion!
Jéssica Íris true af
YES
true!
Yea, you're right. He's sincere and open in expressing his thoughts and opinions, which is great. We should be thankful that we hear insights of other people. Seldom we can find people like him. I would like a friend to be like that.:>
He goes on a WHOLE CONVERSATION about how passionate he is about an experience, which relates to other people. Defintiely not cold hearted.
_"I hate school"_
*-Every INFP*
What no, infp are pretty interested in learning though?
Reflecting on the statement and my statement, I think it took me a moment to understand there's a difference between an interest in learning and school. As an INFP-t, I do really enjoy studying and learning about new things, but yes, school, especially elementary and high school do suck.
Yup
No, I liked school. Hacked it. Teacher's monologue turned out to be quite a stimulating backround to endless secret drawing sessions. I also loved maths. Plus I actually really like the tension between inner fluidity and outer structure.
@@blurryimage4585 glad I'm not the only infp that loves math lol
What I find ironic is that in the end it is the INFP who gets everyone’s attention because of his mix of goofiness and strong passion... And it’s attention the thing introverts seek the least! The kind of thing that happens to me very often as an INFP, I try to go low profile, but that natural and involuntary eccentricity takes the whole place.
Yes.
Oh wow. Being an infj, and watching her reactions and the way she conducts herself...it was like looking in a mirror.
In yet another perspective, INFJs are mirrors in a sense ✨ reflecting back the present state of others from their own internal lake of calm.
True. Even the look at her eyes is accurate
Same. As an infp
I know what you mean, same here! Her cadence... incredibly similar to mine. How cool (:
It’s so scary, I feel the same
This is just too good! Especially the last part because:
I don't see it as a sugar coated white lie, in an infj and I had the same response as her, she just explained what he felt and she was right Andrew only hated school because of the way school works because it doesn't nurture an individual's skill and talent, it just forces you to memorize and follow rules blindly, if schools cared more about the students abilities then Andrew wouldn't have hated it
Aykut
You didn't dislike YOUR schooling, you just did not like school.

Such wonderful insight, thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Yes completely agree
Wow! You have just said what I can't express!
Awesome comment. Totally agree
My mbti changed!! intj to Anfp! the first time i took it was dauring the lowest time in my life, ever since, ive been enfp-infp (im an ambivert :P)
I mean, I'm an INFP and saw a bit of myself in Andrew here, but I'm not putting my shoes all over people's nice white sofas XD
Haha me too. I would take off them before.

Right, that’s what I was thinking and I’m shy so I wouldn’t even be comfortable in the conversation or answering questions first.
Haha yea.:D
I'm an infp and I tend to do things exactly as Andrew did...
Spookyly, me too!
Unspoken1940 That wouldn't be insincerity but rather a sincere lack of caring.
Yeah INFP here as well and relate a bit to infj

i'm exactly like the guy. It makes me feel really fucking sad that everyone is hating on him :( It makes me feel bad for the way I am.
I think in the first situation Andrew already noticed that sitting with your feet on the couch was accepted because Carey was doing it so comfortably. He was very aware of what was appropiate.
I love how Andrew constantly moves his hands and fingers because as INFP I do it a lot when I'm nervous
I love videos like these where you show live examples and then go into details to show what exactly happened.
Fuck. I'm exactly like Garfield holy shit. I can totally relate to this guy in what he said and how he feels and I think he's a killer role model.
Same! I definitely go off on a long ramble about certain things I'm angry about like injustices etc.
Other INFPs lmao
Yup lol
INFJ here, my brother INFP don't understand me as well when I explain things. I guess most don't regardless of their type.
Most of the time I don’t mind but other times I wonder if I’m not just a little bit insane xD
Thats at least my take on it
I’ve seen INFPs being recommended with ENFJs a LOT due to both feeling highly understood by one another.
Actually, most critics of typology theory make this exact point, that individuals aren't "one or the other" but respond differently in different situations.
phoodixon Yup. Watch our news page for more on that :-)
I'm at the same situation
Of course all the heated yet sensible debates here about INFP are noteworthy as well, I also agree that INFPs are not non-empathic assholes, (maybe self-centered in some way) but focused on "internal values",
in other words, more sincere and/or stubborn to his/her own beliefs and ideas.
I think though if he was INFJ he might have asked her whether she mind him sitting like her (some people would mind)
I don't think she necessarily acted better, because it is just the way you look at it. She clearly is more focused on other people (almost constantly) while he is also aware of others, but primarily focused on his own feelings. That does not mean he does not consider others at all, because i think he does. Just differently
James Oshida where is the LOVE button? Also whats your personality type?
TAHNK YOU. so many people think that Fi means being unaware of other people's feelings or surroundings...But you can clearly see from the video Andrew does care about them. Rather they are overthinking about those things too much.
im oblivious to other people being there ! while im explaining something too. only for a while, when i need to turn my focus inwards in order to collect myself, because i always feel like
im feeling thoughts and thinking feelings instead of thinking and feeling seperately like most people do. seems to me they can only focus on one or the other at the same time.
otherwise i feel like emotions and thoughts might seep through or leak, running through my hands like sand.
having to recollect and assess situations and others feelings again and again and again.
reassessing is happening very often and doesnt really take long to process other peoples emotions, even maybe 3 times while building 1 sentence.
it might seem as if we are therefore selfish and unempathic due to little or the lack of active interaction with others. in fact we are able to process faster because of the dualistic way of feeling/thinking. if you already know all possible patterns and nuances of emotions, you are able to translate faster.
i think its selfish or even narcissistic if people never inspect feelings of others.on contrary, the infp is an emotions fetishist.
maybe people come to the conclusion of not being interested in others feelings, because we dont have to ask, we dont have to inspect facial expressions for an eternity, nor do we need to listen carefully to speechrythms or tone. its being processed almost automatically. because we can.
i didnt read much about infp´s or infj´s, its just what i have always experienced and still do and i can relate to the interview, because i have an infj friend and she acts often as my translator, when im caught up in the swirl of feeling thoughts and thinking feelings. she understands completely anyway even if it doesnt make any sense to others.
Hector Salamanca umm sankus (thank you)
Infp, and that's why I thought Andrew made a good Spider-man.
(And because it was obvious that it was okay to do it because she had already got the permission.)
Also, the reason for also putting my shoes on the couch would probably be to be as cool and relaxed as Carey. I would admire her confidence for doing it despite it not being the "appropriate" thing to do in a "serious" interview. I would like to be able to be as confident as her and not appear too serious because in reality, I can be really fun-loving and make jokes/laugh about everything (Although of course we can be so deep and passionate like Andrew demonstrated with his rambling about the school system.)
Finally, after putting my feet on the couch (while I was talking) I wouldn't have looked Carey in the eyes either because that would probably have distracted me too much and make me lose my complicated train of thought (for INFPs, it's important to convey the exact meaning/feeling they have in their head). But had I been silent while doing that, then I would've looked at her and smiled. :)
By this I definitely don't mean that Carey or INFJs are less polite or appropriate, like I said I admire what she did, just wanted to explain these things because INFP behaviour can often be misunderstood.
As an INFJ this was incredibly illuminating for a few reasons:
1. It's amazing to see the extroverted feeling manifest as soothing, reassuring, and face saving to name a few... it really distresses me not to do these things and thus you can imagine my weariness when it comes to family meetings
2. Realizing why I have a hard time understanding introverted feeling people... their emotions are all inside their head and it's hard to read them sometimes... also for some of them the lack of "appropriateness" really puts me off sometimes
We are certainly more resilient and stronger emotionally, in my opinion.
inaccurate
Wow, never thought of Andrew Garfield as an INFP
I think what gives it away is his headbanging nod lmao
XD
This was awesome though. I really appreciate it!
I guess this will justify further, but i want to change the word i used "hate to" to "choose not to". We all have choices and i can appreciate everything because everything exists simply because someone saw the good in it.
Wow, Infjs are so considerate and thoughtful! No wonder I love my Infj friend so much 😊
Then, because he opens emotionally and that's ''unacceptable''
Also, the things he said, I agree with them. And from what I noticed, INFJs dislike us most of the time.
well but thats infp.
Oh my gosh, I felt totally connected to her! Expecting her to react like an INFJ led me to know exactly what she was about to say. Love the video!

Not like he'd stop the interview just to ask if he can sit a certain way.
exactly my thoughts
An INFJ would still ask. :)
Mostly because - like a child - i ask a million questions to get to a conclusuon and that is neverrr welcome , lol)
As i feel like rosie jones illustrated in her response with her self given answer. Whether she's infp or not? Its still a perfect example
This video is much more helpful than reading about the types. Thank you.
This was beautifully done. Explained very well and easy to understand. Subscribed for more.
This is the BEST description of the difference between INFJ and INFP I have ever seen! Thank you!
Thanks!
there were hardly any INFJ points here
yeah. but in some videos, they gather that i thought infj like me is not that rare and the stats lying.
i’m INFJ and i have a friend INFP. i truly affirm our conversations are just like that video.
great to see some personality types in action and being able to distinguish those qualities
Erm, what? Ni is a subjective function. The entire chapter on Fe in von Franz's Lectures on Jung's Typology is about Fe and white lies.
"We tend to be very objective."
Nope.
CelebrityTypes
Ok please can you point me to some resources into Fe and more generally, the entire MBTI? I cannot reconcile all this. I need to get to the bottom of all this.
Hey! Thanks :) You are so kind and generous
Emilia Schneider Thanks.
Linda Welcome to INFP; they all have ADD, making it kind of trivial to mention.
TrantaLocked on an internet forum for INFPs hardly anyone with INFP had ADD when I asked so it seems more to me that a lot of ppl with ADD are INFP but that there might also be a lot of INFPs without ADD. What do you say to that?
Linda Whether or not they are diagnosed, INFPs have attention issues compared to most types.
Could you do more of these videos?? It’s so interesting to see behaviours explained!!
Aww, as an INFP, i was resonating soo hard with what he was saying about school snd getting equally as fired up xD
Sameee lmao
This was one of the most useful videos I’ve ever seen on mbti. Thanks for making it!
It really helps understanding how to notice Cognitive Functions as they occur (which is difficult imo).
idk, I took the INFP or INFJ test, and ended up with "INFJ" as a result (even though I got INFP in the 16p test), and honestly, even though I can sometimes relate to INFJ, but most of the times, I feel more like INFP . whenever I read descriptions about INFP, I can fully and easily recognize my own self
same
they have completely different cognitive functions, infj is ni-fe and infp is fi-ne, so they're quite different and if you're self-aware you should be able to tell the difference easily
@@punkbjork oh thanks for dedicating the time to explain 😁
Sorry.
See comments on the same point below. Garfield is doing exactly what Fi is, as described in Psychological Types §638. How do you think it is wrong?
Dear, you should accept your INFP'ness more. I'm an INFP and I completely agree with this and didn't find it offensive, thought I do appreciate INFJ's a lot.
CelebrityTypes
I am an INFP too, and I found the lack of sincerity and sympathy in INFJ's, very troubling.
CelebrityTypes
The trouble is that the behavior of Garfield makes him look sissy and a laughing stock for others, who lack sincerity and sympathy. I am an INFP and would vehemently disagree to this justification taking MBTI as an excuze. Don't attribute that to MBTI, that's something else, but not MBTI !!
I think you guys are taking things way too personally on this one.
As an infj, I could listen to that man talk for days if he wanted
I aligned more with Carey. I have to be truly passionate about something, that inappropriateness or others' feelings are a direct after thought.
I love Garfield's perspective on school. I wish others would acknowledge it too.
It would probably fix a lot of our problems.
Before, I felt 50% infp 50% infj and since you really cannot be both, not knowing was driving me insane. This is the first video where I feel 80% infj so thank you ❤
I'm seeing the Peter Parker in Andrew
You talking about me?
@@hyeyunhan1354 really???
CelebrityTypes
Instead of trying to show Ryan why your analysis is better, you took one aspect regarding the tone of that comment and disregarded the arguments.
Agreed. The analysis is flawed. I thought the same thing almost immediately.

Yeah INFJ boyfriend does that thing Mulligan did at the end a lot where they clarify your passion-fueled rant about the state of the world into something that makes more sense. :)
I really enjoyed the analysis, and in general enjoy observing my fellow men as a way to understand myself and how to treat others in a kind way.
Yeah I also have a beef with the way creative pursuits are completely shit on in most school systems, and outside of creative classes like art and writing school was just a series of chores and drudgery, like breaking rocks in a prison.
This is really insightful and you've analysed it all so thoroughly :)
andrew is always so relatable
i'm generally an INFJ but just took the test again and scored INF, mildly P rather than J, so wanted to watch this.
+Sarce Sarsar thanks! Nice to know someone feels the same way. Good luck!
However, now that I'm nurturing and tuning into my authenticity, computer science is not the right field for me :-\
