I see people use the hole wizard a lot and they think they are ready to send the part. Engineering kicks it back and they wonder why. The way you are threading is the only proper way to do it. Great video.
Wow didn't know you do Solidworks tutorials. Thank!
I'd love to see more of this content. Very good video Matt!
Loving this content
I've watched these threading videos a million times and I still can't tell what the little triangle you drew at the top is for. Wouldn't the helix suffice for the sweep cut?
were is the er5
Super video Matt I'm sur but a bit too fast for me. had to put the speed down to 0.25 but didnt understand a thing you said. BTW I heard copper is poisonto viruses is this true? You can see where i;m going with this? Masks and copperslip maybe?
Thanks for that.
My tutorial shows how to add a thread but it's really sort of a metaphorical thread, doesn't show at all, not even in the sketch which is quite irritating.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. I saw spastics of fire in a Tesco car park, i watched a gimp suck the essence out of a homeless mans arse. All those moments lost in time, like spunk in milk. Time to cry.
I started out doing it this way, but now use hole wizard mostly. Most stuff I do is basic.
But definitely need to make sure I don't forget this method for the next odd-ball job.
Hole wizard is something I HATE! Apart from that hole wizard doesn't do threads, so if you wanna do an FEA on clamping load etc then it's no good to you
@@dirtygarageguy Yep definitely limiting. I only use it as a visual representation for drawings, not in any way for analysis etc.
Yeah I just cut holes to the tap drill size so if I have to send it out they can't fuck it up
@@dirtygarageguy Definitely details like that which make the difference between someone who knows what they are doing vs uni experience only designers.
I've had far too many fuck-up with sending shit out in the past LOL
What year/version are you using?
I am stuck with the educational package through work, so it's 2017 for me.
2017 for me - it's the most stable version to date
@@dirtygarageguy Good to know. We refused the upgrade at one point because they made a bunch of interface changes people hated. Skipped over it and held out to the following version where they changed it back.
Totally worth a 3 day out of town recce to go to the SW conference just to learn that.
Pissed off my solidworks doesn't work at home, needs to talk to network at the office for activation key. Our IT crowd are shit.
Can't be arsed re-installing one of "those" versions on my home pc again either. It works fine when I do, but fuckit.
4 week lock down holiday it is...
You know there is a thread cutting tool in solidworks right?
Yes - and it's shit. That's the point of this video
Like he said, using the threading tool is an option, but it's garbage in SW. It's also useful to know this process so you can easily make custom thread geometries (for 3d printed parts for example).
@@Sphockeysk8r
I used to do it like he did in de video as well, but once you work alot with the thread cutting tool it is way faster, but making custom thread this way is indeed very handy
One thing I will add is this - Stop making threads. Apart from making it 'look' pretty, you don't need unless you need it for a very specific reason.
In SW 2019 when you choose that tool it warns you that it is to be used for visual or an example. I would not recommend it for production. If you are using a CNC you will have a hell of a time setting your tool paths.

Sticky mouse? Stop watching so much porn, a little goes a long way!
What happened to the rest of the bearing segments, they were fantastic! Keep up the good work, maybe just go easy from now on...

Oh sorry, am I wasting your precious time?
