    I was there. About 8-10 feet above DF & PM On the balcony looking downbetween them ... DFs jaw dropped over Pat's lead. I was a musical highlight of my life....owning everything that each artist have has ever done. BTW I had Pat sign me his White Album "Remember Sign in Stranger" ...at Opus 40 Woodstock NY 1998

    Never knew these two shared the stage. The intensity is more like Steely Dan on their 1974 tour, before Becker & Fagen retreated to the studio for the next 19 years.

    Pat in the olden days “rocking”! Haha 😂 just saw Donald live still holding down the groove on the electric piano just like I hear here. Pat’s got kinda excited on this jam huh 🤔 thx for sharing these nice glimpses behind the curtain. Very enjoyable and humanizing!

    Fantastic! Two years before SD started touring again. For the uninitiated... the "synth solo" WAS Pat Matheny playing an electric guitar with effects. Saw SD in Cincinnati at Riverbend in '94. Anyone know who else was on stage for this show in '91?

      @@ag7404 It doesn't really sound like Bernard in my opinion. It's probably someone else. Sounds most like Porcaro to my ears to be honest. I thought it's probably some really good but relatively unknown New York drummer. But in many eays, this has Porcaro written all over it. If it's someone else, Porcaro must be their biggest influence.

    • @ag7404
      @ag7404 Год назад

      @@michaelcaplin8969 Bernard Purdie's characteristic fill-in can be heard in places during Metheny's solo. Listen especially to the part at 4:40. If you know Purdy's playing well, you can be 100% sure it's him!

    • @michaelcaplin8969
      @michaelcaplin8969 Год назад

      @@ag7404 Nah, I know exactly what you mean at 4:40, as I thought about it myself, but that isn't the way Bernard plays it. It's Bernards fill for sure, but he's not the one playing it. The tell tale sign is how straight they are (Bernard grooves and rushes in these kind of fills, while these are just straight ahead, something Bernard wouldn't do), and then the tom run right after. Porcaro had these exact types of fills from about 1985 to his death (he was very inspired by Purdie), so I'm thinking it's got to be a player that is ajorly inspired by Purdie, but plays a lot more steady and straight. The top name that comes to mind then is Porcaro.

    Very cool. Very strange. Solo does not sound like his guitar or his style. Borrowing a guitar perhaps?? Great recording. Hopefully whole show pops up. Very tight that night. Maybe Nighthawk gig? Can’t hear horns.

      Outro solo and dirty guitar interjections in verses are probably not Metheny but Fagen's regular guitarist at the time. However, the solo in the middle of the song is absolutely Metheny's sound and style (e.g. guitar synth used on Offramp and First Circle). On the verses he might be comping some clean guitar, which I think I hear.

    Huge fan of both and this is a neat hidden nugget, but sorry to all the "fan boys" ...this is a weak cover of the song. Metheny's squeaky "synth guitar" is totally out of place here as was his solo. The guitar solo at the end was much better.
