    Lovely classic design. Kinda looks similar to a trc south pole in its design. About the perfect size for a utility knife. Love it.

    Top shelf stuff mate, thoroughly enjoyed watching that.
    My family used to do quiet a lot of backyard butchering when I was younger, so much in fact that they used to actually get raided by the authorities, it was only lucky that the head copper in town liked his cheap T-Bones that he used to let my family know when they were coming. Anyway I used to chase a lot of pigs with dogs and shoot a lot of foxes and goats as I used to enjoy tanning skins and giving them to mates to put in there man caves. I had brought a knife the exact same shape as the one you made here when I first started skinning and tanning and I had been given a tonne of knifes before I'd brought it but it was my go to knife. My father borrowed it of me one day when he had a few sheep to kill as he wanted to see how it worked " he used to always say keep your knife sharp and let it do all the work" , but them old fellas had a knife for everything. He thought that knife for medium to smallish size game was the best all round shaped knife you could have, and eventually I never seen it again.

      This knife was a gift for my uncle who is hunter, he tested it few weeks ago by skinning 110 kg heavy hog. He relly liked knife and said it is very good shape. I also think this is great shape, it is very universal, and that is why I made it in that shape:)

    Hey man that is an awesome looking knife. Love the two different colours in the handle and the pins came out great love the mosaic on as well. How long did it take overall to make the knife?
    Oh and by the way I have had an edge pro apex (proper one) for a couple years now and it is worth every dollar. So if you have the money well worth it. Oh and the drill stop collar makes things much easier.

    • @FilipHuzjak
      @FilipHuzjak  7 лет назад

      scottecooke Thank you very much!
      It took me about 3 days of work,around 8 -10 hours every day. (overall around 2 weeks because I send it to heat treatment).
      Yeah, the stones on fake Edge pro are horrible :P

    • @FilipHuzjak
      @FilipHuzjak  7 лет назад

      scottecooke
      It took longer than it should because i spent many hours fixing mistakes :D I struggled with straight bevel... I only made few knives and still learning.
      I certainly have in plan buying better sharpening system, was thinking about lansky wit diamond stones.

    • @scottecooke
      @scottecooke 7 лет назад

      Damn, well I love the result only thing I would change (apart from things I can't see in the video) is that after using the router on the handle to also round them a bit with sandpaper. But if it feel comfy then no need because I like the look just wondering about comfort level.
      As for knife making I am super new. I made one out of mild steel and one out of a carpenters saw blade (0.8mm thick). And I loved it. So now I am going to make some out of some 1084 and micarta which I just got in.
      Anyway I started exploring knife making because I was into sharpening. And then a couple peoples knives needed new handles and then I was like surely I could make the rest lol.
      But I have learnt tons about sharpening (not everything, it is an endless rabbit hole), so if you tell me what your budget is roughly I could help point you in the right direction. Also by the sounds of it you want a fixed angle system, is that correct? I'm not selling anything just though maybe I could help since so many of you youtubers help me by answering questions.

    • @FilipHuzjak
      @FilipHuzjak  7 лет назад

      scottecooke I did round edges on handle wit sand paper a bit so it is comfortable to hold. It's not in video...
      Well, I'm looking for fixed angle sharpener, not more than 100$, less if possible. What do you think about Lansky?

    • @scottecooke
      @scottecooke 7 лет назад

      Cool I wish I could make one like that. I will one day but not for a while lol. Thanks for the inspiration though. I can watch these knife making videos all day.
      With the kind of budget you are talking about you will have to go with a lansky type system. With out a doubt I would recommend the diamonds. If you don't when one dishes you will have to flatten them all to that same thickness or it won't hit the whole bevel properly and you either won't be hitting the apex or going a bit steep.
      I actually have a GATCO ultimate diamond system. Which I got for Christmas before getting the edge pro apex.
      I love the gatco and the benefit it has over the lansky is the stones are a bit wider. So unless you are sharpening knives with recurves then it will help remove steel faster and if you want a polish the ceramic stone it comes with is great to start with before the strops. I haven't used the serration stone so can't comment on how good it is.
      For some reason the Gatco comes with honing oil (not sure if the lansky does). I wouldn't recommend it on diamonds or ceramics. They are great with water and a add a drop or two of dish soap if you want helps clean it easier. But use the oil for something else.
      But for either system especially the Gatco because of the ceramic stone buy a eraser block from the hardware store or amazon or ebay. They are cheap but clean out ceramic stones and diamond stones amazingly well. Best little accessory I ever bought for them.
      Either system would be good for that price range gatco or lansky. One problem you can't avoid with that type of system is that because the blade is clamped and you can't move it along the table like an edge pro you will find that the bevel angle changes from the heel to the tip of the knife. And is more noticeable the longer the knife blade is. This can't be avoided without re clamping every inch or two. It is just a limitation of the system unfortunately. But with either of these systems you will get scary sharp edges every time without fail.

  • @ianmoritzkrecic7929
    @ianmoritzkrecic7929 4 года назад

    If you make a knife, heat treat it yourself. I would understand if the blade steel was CPM 20CV or S35VN, that requires a bit better equipment, but it is N690- you can't fuck up N690 and it's really easy to heat treat

    • @FilipHuzjak
      @FilipHuzjak  4 года назад

      I disagree, you can fuck up n690 in many ways - not necessarily fuck up, but end up with low hardness. When I made this video I didn't have any heat treating equipment. Now i have ht oven and I heat treat them myself, with ss foil and aluminum plates to 58-60HRC.
