Yes it is. But in most countries, the punishment for stealing is mild and most likely won't earn you jail time, though it really depends on what you steal and how many times you were caught stealing. I don't know what kind of punishment is given for stealing in North Korea but it probably is alot more severe than other places.
I mean....considering a lot of mild crimes can end in execution there (even things that seem innocent to US can end in death there), I'm sure stealing is a pretty good no-no to put on this list. Especially if you have young children with you who may have sticky fingers or just don't know better. To get a good idea on how life in North Korea is, i recommend reading "In order to live" by yeonmi park. She escaped from Nk to China when she was 13 for a bowl of rice. It was the best book I've ever read.. taught me a lot
I also recommend Every Falling Star by Sungju Lee which details his life in and escape from North Korea. I read it for a school thing but it has become one of my favorite books ever.

I genuinely feel so bad for the young people who want more freedom and a better life but have to suffer just because they were born in that hell.
If you're born into wealthy family AND have good social status, you don't have to suffer. At least you have food. Sometimes all that matters to them are their families. But some of them genuinely believe they are living happily and that North Korea is in much better state than rest of the world. The propaganda there is strong and it's really easy to get caught in it.

My aunt brought me back a souvenir from North Korea. It was like one of those things you might hang from your car mirror.
To get a good idea on how life in North Korea is, i recommend reading "In order to live" by yeonmi park. She escaped from Nk to China when she was 13 for a bowl of rice. It was the best book I've ever read.. taught me a lot
I also recommend Every Falling Star by Sungju Lee which details his life in and escape from North Korea. I read it for a school thing but it has become one of my favorite books ever.
