Thank you! It actually occurred to me several years ago that if I wanted to continue cruising at the rate I was cruising, I had to stay healthy. I've seen too many frequent cruisers lose their health and unable to cruise.
@@TheWeekendCruiserI recently sailed on Jewel and was impressed with their gym. I had a 8 night cruise and worked out 6 days. Wife did 4 days. I always walk the stairs too.
Thanks Derrick for commenting on this video! Gym videos on cruise ships are not very popular but for those of use who this is a way of life, we can't miss a week! Hope you enjoy!
Family is talking about going on this cruise, instantly had low expectations due to what i’ve seen on past vacations as well. Needless to say this gym is making me look forward to my stay
I loved the fitness space onboard Symphony - the fact that I could get a drink at the cafe here included in my package was great - their blended juices were wonderful! My only criticism of this space was the thermal suite - truly dreadful for the size of ship!
I was on Symphony in July and I found that, being a boxer, the only piece of equipment I could have unfettered access to was the heavy bag. The rest of the equipment and machines were often heavily in use during my cruise.
Timing is everything at the gym! Sounds like you went in the morning and it is miserable in there! I try to go around 3pm to 5pm and it isn't too bad. Esp if it is a port day.
Thanks for making these videos. Most people skip over this when doing ship tour. For me, it's important for me to keep up with my fitness at sea and seeing what is on offer might make the difference between what ship I choose.
My pleasure and the same here! Getting off routine for even one week can mean it takes me a month to start back up! Yes, these videos perform the worst of any I post but I love sharing this side of cruising.
Wow, look at that gym 😮 Do you recommend avoiding the gym in the morning at all costs? Even at 6-7am? I always do my runs and workouts early in the morning.
If you are doing running in the morning, I would say check it out the first day and see what you think. Even at 6am, you are going to have a good amount of people there. Also, not sure if you like running outside but consider running outside on port days.
I mostly run outside, but usually inside when on vacations, since I am not familiar with the outside terrain. I am doing the 5 Night Western Caribbean Cruise on the Grandeur out of Tampa. Stops in George Town, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico - July 6th. If the treadmills are all jacked, I can use the jogging track on deck 10. It is about a quarter mile so would need to do 12-13 laps for my usual 5k run.
Depends on the ship. I would say that the gym size is not proportional to the increase number of guest. Especially, the weight lifting sections. Freedom class and Voyager class gyms are bigger and 10x nicer. Those are my favorite.
It really is. all the Oasis class ships will have a similiar setup. One difference I couldn't find was the cycling room on this ship. I don't think it had one.
I think that is a fair statement. I have never understood why Royal doesn't have bigger gyms and more equipment. They also tend to make them very cardio heavy and the fitness world has changed.
Thanks for being one of the healthiest cruisers out there. Love when you show the gyms.

I was terrified about the gym due to what I had to use on carnival. This is phenomenal!!!!!!!
I can't wait for my trip in November!!!!!

I think I've only done thermal spa once on an Oasis ship... was nothing that I would want to pay for again either.

Woohoo! Nice
symphony was my first and only royal cruise did a back 2 back 7night in 2022 now the prices are like double lol
Yeah, that is one reason I have been looking at other cruise lines like MSC. Much better value.

Is the gym truly larger than those on smaller ships since the passenger capacity is so much more? Thanks!

are the gyms 24hrs? on most ships
They are not - normally from 5/6am to 10pm.
What the dumbbells go up to???
Oasis class ships normally have more dumbbells, so I believe it goes to 100lbs. Worst case, it will stop at 75lbs.
I think the set up is very similar to the Oasis of the Seas ship

Looks small for the number of people on ship
