FINALLY Lowering the Acura RSX Type-S | Wheel & Coilover Install!

  • The WAIT IS OVER! In today's video, we lower the RSX Type-S on TruHart Street Plus Coilovers for the DC5, EM2, and EP3. Jason joins me for the lowering the RSX and getting the new suspension and rear camber kit installed! The NEW Wheels are fitted and we get the ride height dialed in. It looks AMAZING!
    Installing coilover suspension for me is like christening car! Something about new suspension, the look, and the handling makes it SO MUCH better. Lowering a Honda is nothing new, but it never get's old! However, lowering the Acura RSX proved to have a few more speed bumps than the typical Honda Civic coilover installs that I've done. Not to say that the MacPherson strut suspension is bad, just more complicated than the double wishbone I'm used to. Regardless, I still wanted to show you how to install coilovers from start to finish on the RSX (even with the few problems).
    TruHart makes fantastic coilover suspension for most budget minded people looking to lower their car and improve handling. These specific coils are for the RSX, and EM2 and EP3 Honda Civic. BC Racing, Fortune Auto, Skunk2, and Tien make great coilovers, but TruHart has proven to be my go-to. I've give you guys my long term review in a past video and I have nothing but good things to say! So with that said, going with TruHart Coilovers for the RSX was definitely going to happen. Installing Coilovers themselves in generally easy, but understanding camber, toe, and steering wheel alignment is another thing to learn.
    For the RSX, the front coilovers comes with Camber adjustment plates. The rear of the RSX NEEDS a aftermarket camber kit in order to make adjustments. Adjusting coilovers off the car to a good starting point is your best bet. Make measurements, and make some sharpie marks to make things easy. After adjusting the height for a (second time) I think I have the car sitting where I want. it's not a slammed Honda by any means, but has a clean OEM+ look to it!
    So overall, would I consider these coilover cheap? Not at all. Even though though TruHats are affordable, they are still made by D2 and are built extremely well. One NOTE though, you MUST grease the pillowball bushing on these coilovers to eliminate the chance of spring binding. They do not come pre-greased. it's easiest to do with them off the car. As of right now, the car looks amazing and in the next video, we'll get the alignment done and I'll give you my final settings for Camber, toe, and caster.
    Hopefully this coilover install video was helpful! Stay tuned for more Civic content! Thanks for watching.

    When you lower the RSX, it’s good to buy supporting mods such as extended ball joints, roll center tire rod ends, etc. to reduce the bump steer, excessive toe and wonky suspension geometry, sometimes just lowering the car could make it handle even worse without those mods. Definitely looks great though!

    • @ALLDAYANTHONY

      I bought extended tie rods and extended ball joints, both were unnecessary for the alignment. Car has no bump steer as it sits right now

    So an interesting thing is those coils looks like the same thing I put on my 7th gen civic. And something to keep in mind with any coil overs is the lower the better. I made the mistake of running mine to high and it had some pivot action where the bell threads on and it ruined my wheel bearing. So obviously don’t have it to low but if your going to have it at or close to stock height leave the stock ones on.

    You are not alone with the front suspension headaches of the rsx/7 the gen civic
    My suspension setup was:
    Dc5 steering rack risers
    Aluminum Steering rack sliders
    Garage16 x brace
    Longer inner tie rod and oem outer
    Coilovers Megan racing height was about 1.8 ish front and rear
    The one thing that bugged me that was rear sag notorious for rsx/civic chassis
    So what I did was swap out the rear springs of the coilover to a 14k 6" length spring... Elimated the sag but also helped with rotation in turns. Could be also the overkill of adding the Megan racing rear sway bar lol
    Good luck on your build... Really clean thus far

    When I lowered my rsx I ran into a lot of issues also, first, I noticed my ball joints where out, my lca bushings also, and then once I replaced everything and put some bc racing coils I also had to use the ktuned tie rods for more adjustability for the alignment and taking off the old tie rods was a challenge. No, it's not drivable. Both wheels toe out exactly like yours when you first installed it. If we adjust the camber and tie rod, we may be able to drive it to the alignment shop. Just thought we can't adjust the tie rod and don't want to make it worse. What's weird is all other rsx suspension videos, they don't have that toe issue like your and my nephew. BTW, great content and keep up the great work. Subscribed!

      @@tkvchannel3871 you can absolutely adjust the tie rod. Don’t let it hang by a few threads but you can rotate it out or in a few turns as necessary. Add more camber, make some turns, and drive it to alignment

    Great video and all, but what about torque? As a suspension engineer it made me cringe a lot seeing you using just a drill and not a torque wrench with the specific suspension torques. Torque is critical when working with suspension components. Otherwise great video

    Disappointed to see you go the cheap route with the suspension when you consider how much quality you've put into other areas of the car. However Truhart makes decent daily driving suspension, my only gripes with them is they don't advertise their spring rates, and the rear coils don't adjust height independently so lowering the rear means shortening the shock travel. You either get bumpier ride or shortened shock life.

    • @ALLDAYANTHONY
      @ALLDAYANTHONY  Год назад +2

      I wouldn’t call this the cheap route by any means. Could I have spent $1200 to get into coils with some more adjustability? Sure! But is this a track car? No. Am I going to remove my rear plastics every time I want to adjust dampening? No. The truth is, I’ve ran Truharts on the Civic for years. No issues, no rebuilds, nothing. So just because you can spend more money for a few more features or a name on a box, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re cheaping out. If anything, that gives me more freedom to splurge on other improvements around the car. As far as the rears go, there’s worse things that can happen on this 190k mile car…

    • @ebatr8
      @ebatr8 Год назад

      @@ALLDAYANTHONY that's generally what I hear when I ask someone why they chose a cheaper suspension. "I'm not gonna track, why would I want x feature or brand name, etc..." I did give Truhart it's props in being okay for daily driving, but I think once you experience nicer suspension you see the quality even in the install process. I considered these myself but wasn't happy with not knowing spring rate, and also the rear ride height changing shock travel
